Zoe Nutrition Testing

Wombat27A · 15/06/2022 08:15

Not sure this is the right place for this...

Anyone else doing the Zoe Nutrition Testing?

My results were poor, so now I'm tackling my diet. I thought it was pretty good but it's clear it needs a major overhaul. So much information but finding it good.🙂

someone upthread (sorry, can’t remember who it was!) mentioned having a recipe for chickpea blondies. Would you be kind enough to send it to me? I’m in need of something sweet that doesn’t trash my daily score! Thank you!

chutneypig · 01/10/2022 17:08

I've pm'd you - probably! Not very good with that side of things Grin

LeakyLoftHatch · 02/10/2022 08:42

@fioreun As far as I know, the coaching refers to the daily lessons plus answers to questions. I haven't come across anything else anyway.

Itsnotallblackandwhite · 03/10/2022 08:56

I’m on to Zoe 102 today (bagels and cheese week 😀)

Is the blood sugar challenges library online anywhere? I can’t read it properly on my phone.

psed · 03/10/2022 18:03

Did anyone have an allergic reaction to the plaster over the sensor. I’ve been wearing it since last Thursday and it’s starting to feel a bit itchy. Reluctant to take it off because I’m worried the sensor will come out.

Wombat27A · 03/10/2022 21:46

I didn't but was expecting to, as I am allergic to plasters.

In all the adverts, people aren't wearing plasters.

It is really quite sticky, so I think I'd be cautious about trying to remove it.

OP posts:
poppylondon456 · 04/10/2022 10:32

I had such a bad reaction to the plaster - had to gently peel off after a few days and treat the very itchy and red rash. Sensor stayed on as it's quite sticky anyway.

Hi all

Long time lurker first time poster here. I’ve really enjoyed reading through the pages of replies so thank you all for sharing your experiences.

I’m really curious about my gut health. I’ve had a few health problems over the years and have always struggled with my weight so I’m keen to find out more.

I’m currently on the waiting list but assume it’s going to be months before I make it through. Would you advise holding on or potentially going elsewhere for a test? Are other vendors even comparable?

Thank you!

Flockameanie · 05/10/2022 06:59

@ClaireJones1963 i have a code so you can jump the queue and sign up straight away. Pm me and I can give it to you.

ClaireJones1963 · 05/10/2022 08:24

@Flockameanie Thank you so much! PMing you now.

Will reply to this thread with my experience :)

Flockameanie · 05/10/2022 11:38

@lugeforlife can you tell me how you make your ricotta dessert thing? I’ve got some I need to use up…

poppylondon456 · 06/10/2022 11:05

Got my results! Really confusing though. I have very very bad sugar and fat control BUT have a very HIGH microbiome score. So it feels like my gut is doing a good job already. My diet I know is quite good with lots of plants / fish / lean meat. So I'm not sure how I can improve. I thought my chronic weight gain and never any loss on any diet might be due to microbiome as Zoe tends to suggest. I thought it might be the answer to how to lose weight but now not sure. Confused

Wombat27A · 06/10/2022 12:29

@poppylondon456 Yep, that's the issue I had when I started this thread. Their examples have poor fat or poor sugar control, not both. My gut was ok too, so I was well pleased with that and it confirmed I was eating properly. Because it was always assumed I eat poorly and despite doing all of the things, I was still putting weight on, it was nice to have confirmation my diet was good.

So the things to look at are portion size, timings of meals (so lower carb brekkie), the scores (so swap foods in the "grey area" as you go through the coaching), the order you eat in (glucose goddess tips) and then physical stuff like thyroid function and it turns out for me, low ferritin levels, so nearly anaemic and now on hrt too.

It's a bit like whack-a-mole! The bottom line is sadly we have to be much, much more careful in what, when and how much we eat, sigh...

@poppylondon456 sounds as if we have similar profiles.

I used to be seriously overweight. As I lose weight, my blood sugar control improves considerably. I bought more of the glucose monitors and test my reactions every three months or so.

Going low carb has been the only reliable way for me to shift the weight. As many leafy green veg as I can swallow plus some good fats and protein to make them more palatable.

I'm planning to broaden out my food choices when I am closer to my goal weight, including some pluses and some higher carb foods. Sugar sadly is off the agenda for the foreseeable.

To avoid feeling deprived, every so often I eat some 'rubbish'. Not daily, weekly or even monthly but occasionally, and then immediately get back on the waggon. I feel so much better when I avoid the blood sugar rushes of sugar and starchy carbs. So far, so good.

Hope you find what works for you.

chutneypig · 07/10/2022 06:39

@poppylondon456 it's an awful lot of information to take in when you get the first feedback. Hopefully when the coaching starts it'll help. I've found it's a lot easier to improve scores for blood sugar by food combining than improving fat scores, that's more based on timings.

Has anyone noticed their food scores changing this week? I went to log the breakfast I had two days ago. Two days ago it was high 80s and is now 46 Confused I had a message saying they'd updated my gut boosters. I've tried digging around in the app to see if the ingredient scores have changed and to contact the coaches but I've got the swirly wheel of doom.

poppylondon456 · 07/10/2022 08:52

Thanks for the advice. Good to know I'm not the only one with this sort of profile. Wombat, have you noticed any weight loss since sticking to the plan? It does seem to be like whack a mole you're right! I just hope I find my ideal combination soon. I've tried low carb and over 3 months I didn't even lose a pound and also tried eating whatever I like and still maintained the same weight. I have no idea anymore so hoping this plan will make a difference.

Wombat27A · 07/10/2022 10:31

I really struggle to lose weight. I'm a lot less puffy but had a lot of "life admin" the last few weeks, so consciously not trying, so have plonked a pound or so on.

If I go back to the spinach shakes, it definitely has an effect. 😁

I'll have a sprot around the database to see if things have changed for me.

OP posts:
poppylondon456 · 07/10/2022 13:21

Oh yes! Spinach shakes.... Just to add I don't have thyroid issues, take extra iron for previous deficiency, and early 50s, in peri but not on HRT yet. Have heard HRT can add weight so a bit reluctant!!

Wombat27A · 07/10/2022 15:33

I haven't put weight on with hrt, feel much better so moving more. Iron deficiency can have "aversion to exercise" as a symptom, ha!

For comparison, I'm early 50s, bmi 35 but I tend not to feel quite that lardy as was previously lots fatter at the same bmi, so concentrating on overall health, not exactly scale weight.

Tho this morning's weight has had me back on track as I do try not to go over 90kg. 😁

I think they have tweaked the scores. They said they would tho as they get more data.

OP posts:
Flockameanie · 07/10/2022 17:18

I, on the other hand, put on half a stone within three weeks of starting HRT, despite not consuming more calories and actually doing more exercise. 5 lbs of that within the first week! I'm only 3 months in and sticking with it for now, as I think I'm seeing other benefits, but it's quite alarming really.

(For comparison, I'm mid-40s, in peri, and BMI is around 21)

Wombat27A · 07/10/2022 18:04

It must be like the coil, an entirely personal response. It's had other benefits for me too. I was plonking on weight too from wonky thyroid, so annoying when I'm actually a lot more disciplined than ever before...

OP posts:
chutneypig · 08/10/2022 06:46

I'm honestly not sure about weight since I started HRT. It had certainly gone up but it also coincided with a reduction in exercise and eating more so I wouldn't want to put it down to that.

I tracked down my issue with the scoring - looking at the ingredients they all looked to have similar scores to before. Then I noticed the calories had more than doubled - tracked it down to the oat milk. It's orange for me and there must have been something with the portion size so it's lower score was dominating. I put in an alternative and it's all ok.

Wombat27A · 08/10/2022 09:31

For me the scores tended to be affected by the fat limit for the day but I never worked out how.

OP posts:
JulietDorney · 11/10/2022 14:02

I've had my invite today to join Zoe.

Can anyone clarify a few points?

I'm doing this out of curiosity and health curiosity, more than weight loss(my weight is fine.) I don't need the coaching but I know one month is madatory.

My phone is old and not compatible with the insulin /glucose monitor (I know this is optional.)

But how do they do the initial testing of your gut, fat and sugar? Is that purely from the poo sample or are there blood samples done at home too?

I'm finding the site lacking in real info about what happens once you've handed over your money!

Wombat27A · 11/10/2022 16:15

Basically you eat muffins with varying degrees of fat/sugar in and send a blood sample to them. Poo is for gut bacteria only, I think.

It's can be a busy few days getting all the stuff done at the right time. Day 3 is the busiest day with the blood sample.

Perhaps someone with a better memory than me can assist a bit further?

I would beg, borrow or steal a compatible phone.
