Not sure this is the right place for this...

Anyone else doing the Zoe Nutrition Testing?

My results were poor, so now I'm tackling my diet. I thought it was pretty good but it's clear it needs a major overhaul. So much information but finding it good.🙂

Yep, I don't believe their scores are right for my bread, it doesn't make sense with some of the other products.

Ta for reminding me that I have foccacia dough in the fridge. Have to get it out!

I havent eaten rice since I got my results but I still eat bread as I do need to eat something...try to keep it homemade but it is a yeasted recipe. My poor sd starter is languishing in the fridge.

Enjoy your monitor. It's really interesting.

@chutneypig I'm pleased he liked the socca! The gram pancake I have at lunch is a similar thing.

Wombat I get you. I used to eat a lot of rice/pasta. I have only had pasta twice and spuds twice, rice cut down to once a week etc.

Flockameanie · 27/09/2022 17:41

Just looked up socca @lugeforlife and @chutneypig. Looks great. I’m loving all these ingenious things to do with beans (bloodies, brownies, etc). Any other top recipes?

LeakyLoftHatch · 27/09/2022 21:18

Great to hear how everyone's doing. I haven't posted much to keep a lid on the food anxiety that I didn't realise I had. I've had days where it feels too overwhelming but I am finding it easier now to just do what I can. Like meal planning, great in theory but after years of overeating it made me panic to have to think about food and have too much of it around. I'm feeling calmer now, just taking one day at a tme, not experimenting too much. And feeling goodwhich helps me to stay grounded and calm the panic. So I am quietly feeling progress, mind and body.

chutneypig · 28/09/2022 06:24

I find the planning element of the app quite overwhelming and I love planning. It sounds like you've found a good balance for you @LeakyLoftHatch and it's great to hear you're feeling there's progress in both areas.

I made blackberry chia jam a couple of weeks back @Flockameanie - I'm having it with my yogurt but it's been great to keep my blackberry haul lasting longer.

Well done.

Ah, that might well be why I avoid the meal planning. I try to concentrate on shopping, so I know I have stuff in but I always need to keep it fairly low-key on the planning front or my adhd starts playing up (avoidance, distraction, rebellion).

Ha, it sounds like I don't do anything properly but it's a bit like CBT, the principles sink in over time and with practice.

I had an onion, gherkin and jalopeno salad yesterday. It was part of a sandwich recipe out of the Dusty Knuckle baking book, who'd in turn nicked it out of Meera Sodha recipe for an egg and cheese sandwich. Onions doused in vingar, add the chilli but I had gherkins and jalopeno instead as I have them in jars. It perks up a meal lovely!

Day 3 for me and just had the ordeal of the breakfast muffins. Crikey, that was hard work - has anyone managed to finish them within 15 minutes?

I’m enjoying taking the blood sugar readings and tend to hover around the 5.4 mark. After the muffins I’ve shot from 5.4 to 10.2 and rising (in the 40 minutes it took me to eat them), is that normal for this test?

please tell me the lunch muffins are easier?

Itsnotallblackandwhite · 28/09/2022 10:25

Just finished the last 300+ posts on the thread and realised my spike after the day3 breakfast muffins is normal 🙂. I’m down to 6.2 now.

I have a cholesterol blood test with the GP at 3pm today (not a fasting one) and slightly worried todays muffin tests might affect the reading. I probably won’t get a response from the Zoe team beforehand but will let the nurse know what I’m doing. I don’t really want to postpone the GP as it takes weeks to get simple blood tests at the moment and I can’t get more statins until they see the results of the new test. I’m hoping the Zoe program will help my cholesterol levels so that I can scrap the statins.

Wombat27A · 28/09/2022 10:53

That first lot of muffins is bung full of olive oil. I'd definitely mention it!

The later ones are more carby, so easier.

If you're already on statins, won't your cholesterol levels be down anyway? Hard to tell without a break from them. A lot of cholesterol is genetic.

I did finish the muffins but I'm a big eater.... 😁

I got a message back from Zoe which might be helpful for anyone else in a similar position (I really didn’t plan the test very well around other medical stuff!). I’ve asked for the nutritional info as my surgery won’t let me reschedule - I’d have to cancel then wait weeks for another appointment. At least I’ll have a more in-depth blood analysis of todays test and how the muffins affect me 🙂

Itsnotallblackandwhite · 28/09/2022 11:23

@Wombat27A , I’m out of statins and GP won’t issue a new prescription until I have this blood test, which I’ve already had to wait 4 weeks for. F’kin useless service at the moment. I haven’t seen a GP in person for 3 years now despite MH disability and now potential heart problems. I hate it, I’d rather pay money to try and sort out my health at this point (hence doing the Zoe program).

I twisted and sprained my foot on Saturday and my immediate thought was “do I really need to sit in A&E for 10 hours or more, with little likelihood of even getting an x-ray at the end of it?” The answer was “no” which was confirmed in a callback from 111 who said I wouldn’t be given an x-ray unless I definitely couldn’t walk and if there was no significant swelling (fortunately only a little swelling and I could hop around s I took my chances)

Anyway - back to Zoe! My glucose has dipped right down into the red so I’m very grumpy in case you can’t tell 😁

Wombat27A · 28/09/2022 11:38

Is it your liver function test?

Agree with you about GPs. I have separate threads about my adventures with GPs...

Have a google for the Prehab Guys if you want info on how to manage a lateral ankle sprain. I actually did go to minor injuries with one years ago, had the x-ray, not much help after and still have pain in it...sigh...

I think it’s just cholesterol test. I think what will happen when I see the nurse is that I might be booked in for another blood test, but hopefully in a shorter time than the receptionists are willing or able to offer.

attached are the nutritional values of the breakfast and lunch muffins if anyone is interested. Breakfast ones have the highest amount of fat.

Quick Q about lunch muffins - there’s 3 in my pack but people have posted about only eating 2 (and nutritional info is for 2 muffins?). However the app says to make sure I eat all the muffins in the pack. I’m confused and still full from breakfast.

FFS! Ignore me, I’ve noticed there are only 2 muffins in the lunch pack

Yes, same. I was trying to do too much, planning a meal for every night and feeling panic rather than calmness. Instead I shop well and have good stuff available so n days when food overwhelms me, I choose between yogurt/fruit/seeds/nuts or salad or protein+veg. Would previously have been toast and junk food.

Just caught up. Started yesterday! I have a feeling DH is a little resentful over the time needed for working through the lessons etc. He wants the data and to know how his body works, just hasn’t got the excess time to read through the app or log stuff. Although he said he’s keen to pull the raw data out of the libre app as he’s an analyst. Has anyone done this? Feeling a bit confused by the talk of scores etc, but as said up thread I’ll stick with the process for now and tackle the poo hammock for now.

Wombat27A · 30/09/2022 07:59

It actually makes more sense once you have the scores. It's not onerous & if you follow the coaching, it starts lower & layers up.

I was just sat in the bath thinking my DH would benefit but I don't think he sees the need.

You could ask the sensor people about the raw data?

Poo hammock, not difficult but keep it secure or not over water.

I was thinking the other day about the app chat function as I know a few posters have had to wait a day or two before getting responses to questions.

I asked about the risk of the Day 3 muffin tests affecting NHS blood tests I was having the same day and got a response within about half an hour, and follow up Q’s answered quickly too (thanks to the lovely Aimee who’s a ⭐️)

it might be that research students and post-grads are now back on campus for the new term , so the Zoe research labs are fully staffed?

I only mention it as I nearly didn’t ask the Q - thinking that I wouldn’t get an answer for 24 hours - but happily I had an immediate and helpful response.

Hello everybody, thanks again for all the helpful advice and experience sharing on this thread - it has really helped me through the process. I agree with the gains being in the middle ground, and I'm enjoying new foods - haven't reached lentil and bean overload yet but am sure it is coming!

Is there personal coaching ie with a human being as part of the programme? (ie not just through asking questions). I've had a read through the FAQs and can't see anything. It was my impression when I signed up and a recent media article about the Zoe programme mentioned it. Or did I dream it up? Thanks

Rankellior · 30/09/2022 18:33

Have just read through the thread and looks really interesting. Am on waitlist but if anyone has a referral code would be interested. Thanks

Itsnotallblackandwhite · 30/09/2022 19:36

Hi @Rankellior , if you PM me I have a code.
