Zoe Nutrition Testing

Wombat27A · 15/06/2022 08:15

Not sure this is the right place for this...

Anyone else doing the Zoe Nutrition Testing?

My results were poor, so now I'm tackling my diet. I thought it was pretty good but it's clear it needs a major overhaul. So much information but finding it good.🙂

Aw thank you @lugeforlife you're always so kind. I’m feeling a bit happier today!

@Iwouldliketogovegan that's really good to her, hopefully looking after myself now will pay dividends in the long run! Thank you

chutneypig · 27/07/2022 11:13

@MassiveSalad22 I wish I'd done something like this years back, I don't think I'd be feeling like I am now if I'd adjusted my nutrition at the stage you are, I. Also frustrated with 103, it's prompting me to eat a slightly wider variety but I feel like I'm treading water. Also I can't see anything in the app but don't know if that's because it's confused with time zones as I'm travelling.

Welcome @hushiebaa! I've found this thread great to curb my impatient streak.

The stress side is such a thing for me too @lugeforlife. Then it's sweet carbs all the way. I'm particularly bad when I get in from work, that's a time I really need to watch. I'm hoping I can keep a balance as I'm away with work this week - did opt for a veggie lunch yesterday. Not sure the meagre plane salad offset the mushroom pasta after, but figured it was better than chicken pie.

Aside from my peri weight gain, my other big and related frustration is that my running has gone to pot this year. I'm not the fastest but it feels like I'm going backwards. Just before I got on the plane yesterday I found out I'd got a place at my favourite half marathon next spring. That's great as it will give me extra focus this autumn to get my nutrition sorted then start training at Christmas. I've struggled a lot with fuelling and dieting in the past and really hope Zoe will help me crack that.

lugeforlife · 27/07/2022 12:40

@chutneypig I am the same. Today I started working at 6.30 and am only now taking a breather. I will work til about 7 when I will be knackered then another early start tomorrow (this is a bad day but I probably work a 50 hour week all desk bound).

I will be tired and grumpy when I finish and want the serotonin boast of carbs/sweetness. I am looking forward to getting my scoring so I know what is a good pick for me on those crappy days because they will happen.

I did better today. Salad, strawberries, banana and almond butter. Rye bread rather than crumpets. Got some tuna meatballs out of the freezer for tea. I have some time off coming up so will start on my keffir and kimchi.

I know weight loss is not the goal but I do feel slightly smaller and sleeping better. Days like yesterday are becoming less common and I am definitely eating more consciously. Still ache a lot though.

BarryKentPoet · 27/07/2022 13:33

Does anyone else dip into the red at night with the CGM? I seem to go quite low about 3am every night - do they go over this in your results?

chutneypig · 27/07/2022 14:19

@BarryKentPoet I only had a couple of dips into the red and they were both around 3am. I've not had my results back yet.

I definitely think my lack of activity in the day isn't helping @lugeforlife. I used to be militant about walking at lunchtime but my walking buddy left and meeting load has increased and it just doesn't happen. I do exercise a lot but I don't think it offsets the whole day desk bound.

Interesting article in the Telegraph today about wearing a blood glucose monitor. Hopefully you’ll be able to read it via this link: 12ft.io/proxy?ref=&q=www.telegraph.co.uk/health-fitness/body/wore-glucose-tracker-two-weeks-bad-news-favourite-breakfast/

CallMeKaty · 27/07/2022 20:08

Coming to this late @Wombat27A I've been on the waiting list for ages and was told I was on the early-bird list but so far nothing.

The latest email from them said I'd hear either in 2-3 weeks or 2-3 months and I've no idea which camp I am in!

I've emailed them in the past and got no replies.

Any ideas?

Wombat27A · 27/07/2022 20:16

Welcome.

I think it's a bit random. I was on the list & my invite came quite early.

There's a referral invite thingie, if you want a link?

Do you know the costs?

OP posts:
CallMeKaty · 27/07/2022 20:31

@Wombat27A Oh that sounds interesting! Yes, I saw the costs online which were around £300 for the tests and then something like £XXX for one month's coaching. (I'm not so much interested in that as the analysis but I know you have to have at least one month of coaching.)

lugeforlife · 27/07/2022 20:40

@CallMeKaty I think I have one referral link left if you need it and Wombat doesn't have one. Let me know and I'll check.

@QueenofWhatever thanks for posting that, super interesting and aligns with the podcast the other day. Also an explanation for those of you with the dodgy 3am drops.

And omg I need to get off my fat arse! I am so sedentary and I don't seem to be able to shift that dial.

Wombat27A · 27/07/2022 20:48

@CallMeKaty I'll DM you a link. I'd been hanging on to mine, in case any rl friends were interested but nada. 😁

Thanks you are both very kind.

If mine comes through anyway (like buses all at once) and I don't use your links, will you know that so you can offer them to another person?

CAN I ASK A REALLY BASIC QUESTION ABOUT THE BLOOD SUGAR MONITORING

The blood sugar monitor...do you have to wear something on your arm to test your glucose or do you have to draw blood with a finger prick every meal/ day?

How are you all having your glucose levels monitored daily? Hourly??

I've already got a glucose testing kit (bought out of curiosity as my mum was pre-diabetic) so is that how Zoe works?

FinallyHere · 28/07/2022 08:19

No blood tests required

If you agree for your results to be used in the zoe project, you will be given a continuous glucose monitor

https://www.freestylelibre.co.uk/libre/

This includes a sensor to stick on your arm. This continuously monitors your blood sugar based on interstitial fluid.

Use the app on your phone to scan the sensor to pick up the data. The scan is done at least every eight hours. I found myself scanning much, much often to see what was happening.

So very interesting to see the results of eating sugars really in real time. I used to have a very sweet tooth and think of sugar as a treat. I've honestly completely lost my appetite for sugar after seeing the results.

FinallyHere · 28/07/2022 08:21

If you are prepared to tick a box to say your are diabetic, the monitors can be bound outside the programme for around £50 for fourteen days.

GetOffTheTableMabel · 28/07/2022 12:42

My long-awaited invitation to join arrived this morning. It expires on 2nd August. I am keen to join but don’t know whether the tests would arrive before I go away. I also don’t know whether I’d have time to complete them and send them back before we leave on 5th August.

Does anyone know whether I can sign up now but, potentially, not do the tests until we return on 21st August? Or does that just wreck the whole thing? Any insights gratefully received.

Flockameanie · 28/07/2022 13:43

@GetOffTheTableMabel the testing process is 2 weeks. But once you receive the kit you don’t need to start it straight away, you can put the muffins in the freezer and start whenever you’re ready

MassiveSalad22 · 28/07/2022 14:24

Bran flakes with banana, kids cheese and cucumber sandwich on white bread, half leftover jacket potato and beans (kids dinner leftovers from last night!) and masses of chocolate biscuits for me today 😄😄 really missing the looming presence of my monitor! Hoping getting my results will spur me back onto the right track, also waiting for period to arrive so that always messes me up!

lugeforlife · 28/07/2022 19:02

Ohhhhh I got my results! A week earlier than expected.

Very quick skim as I don't have time to really digest (boom) but apparent bad blood sugar (but only just if you see the on the scale), good guts and very surprisingly good blood fat processing.

I need to read through properly but I'm quite surprised tbh. Was expecting a lot worse!!!!

chutneypig · 28/07/2022 19:09

Excellent news @lugeforlife - sounds intriguing. Looking forward to hearing the full digest 😀 it'll be fascinating to see how that translates to food scores,

Fingers crossed mine turn up tomorrow then.

It's been an interesting day for me, I'm at a conference and had very little choice on food. Breakfast was a pure sugar fest, pastries, low fat yogurts and cereals. There were some fruit but I'm a bit wary of bananas as they really caused me to spike. I've felt rubbish most of the day so far and my mood is really low.

MassiveSalad22 · 28/07/2022 19:50

Eeeeek @lugeforlife mine just came through too! About to tuck into an absolute carb feast 😂😂 classic. Glad your results were generally good!! Well done!

MassiveSalad22 · 28/07/2022 19:51

(Mine were meant to arrive 6 Aug. Scared to open them!)

Wombat27A · 28/07/2022 20:36

Be brave!
