Not sure this is the right place for this...

Anyone else doing the Zoe Nutrition Testing?

My results were poor, so now I'm tackling my diet. I thought it was pretty good but it's clear it needs a major overhaul. So much information but finding it good.🙂

Poor blood sugar, Good blood fat and High (nearly very high!) microbiome. 2/3 ain’t bad! Need to read further in depth because looking at the individual guy bugs it looks like I’m low in loads of the good ones but overall high result! Interesting!

lugeforlife · 28/07/2022 21:36

Oh massive well done us!

So I've just gone back through my diary to get my scores and it was interesting. I have a lot of greenish days (in the 60s/low 70s) and one over 75 which was a day I really liked! The shit days were days well, where I ate shit! The awful day I posted the other day was my lowest.

From what I can see, my emergency breakfast when I'm out/in a rush (banana and a latte) isn't tooo bad which is good to know as that will stop me picking up the pastries. Better with a side of nut butter.

My other favourite breakfast of champs (a mozzarella Shock) is also quite good so doing some fruit or tomatoes with that and I think I'd get a decent score.

Ohhhhhhh this is fun!

MassiveSalad22 · 28/07/2022 21:55

Woo love your energy luge!

Mozzarella for breakfast is a great idea actually, may give it a go. NO carb is green for me, even quinoa or. bulgur wheat! Obscure things like Pearl barley is ok though. (Not that obscure but I have never had it outside of a soup). Although my fave breakfast of porridge plus stuff is a green meal, so I need to figure out how to purposely bring these non-green carbs (eg oats) up in score. Add proteins etc I guess but want to experiment. My next phase doesn’t start for a week as we are off on holiday tomorrow so I will use this week to look foods up and get to grips with it all.

chutneypig · 29/07/2022 04:00

I haven't got mine yet and they said the 5th - I'm sulking!!

lugeforlife · 29/07/2022 05:43

Oh @chutneypig dude don't sulk. Mine arrived at 8pm yesterday. You have the whole day mate. They'll be here [soothy hair stroke]

lugeforlife · 29/07/2022 06:31

Is now the time to say I'm a bit disappointed? Just went through some of my foods and well, it was pretty obvious. F&v good, unrefined carbs and dairy fine, treaty food less fine.

I planned my meals today and came up at 69 (dude). Nothing special, just a planned day rather than a grab shit day.

Meh. To quote my husband last night ' so you are telling me you spend a shit tonne of money to be told to eat carrots not cake?'

hushiebaa · 29/07/2022 06:38

It's probably far too early to tell for most people but has anyone experienced weight loss when tweaking their diet? please say yes

lugeforlife · 29/07/2022 06:47

@hushiebaa actually yes a tiny bit and I only just got my results. Being more mindful after using the glucose monitor helped me pick better. Haven't been measuring or calorie counting but definitely eating better quality.

Not weighed myself but bought a jumpsuit in the next sale, was gonna take it back as too tight over tummy and hips. Missed 7 day return window so have to keep it and when I tried it in again 2 weeks later, was looser and looked better.

@MassiveSalad22 mate, was gonna say pearl barley risotto? I did a kind of pearl barley pilaff the other day which was nice, although not as good the next day. Just used the pb where the rice should be.

MassiveSalad22 · 29/07/2022 06:58

@lugeforlife i just came on to say the same, it seems like it’s all common sense at the mo? I’m wondering how tailored it actually is. All my suppressors are obviously crap for you and things I said I never eat anyway (I’m pescatarian )?!

Also want pointers on specific foods to eat to get the microbes they’ve said I’m lacking!!?

Zoe Nutrition Testing
MassiveSalad22 · 29/07/2022 07:30

We’ll see what they say. My bowels are worse than ever since starting Zoe 😄 (wind Sorry tmi 😄) gah! At least we’ve paid to get confirmation on what state our blood and microbiome are in I suppose. For me, focus on low carb and don’t worry about the rest (as I already suspected! So what now?).

Wondering if anyone has any 50+ simple carbs eg pasta, bread, potatoes on their list? Wondering if everyone just gets the same list of foods tbh.

Here are some of my scores for comparison:
chicken, average, roasted - 56
Eggs, boiled - 76
pasta (cooked) - 41
Bread, white - 11
Rice, wild (cooked) - 24
boiled potatoes - 35

Hoping that differs to others’ results!

lugeforlife · 29/07/2022 07:57

@MassiveSalad22 yeah mine are a bit different to be fair. I do have some green carbs and I do better on pasta. White bread the same as you (you are one point higher!)

How were oats for you? I mentioned they made me spike massively and on their own they are in the 20s for me. Overnight oats (so yoghurt and fruit in there too) are much better but not still great in comparison. I'm better off with a banana and nut butter.

MassiveSalad22 · 29/07/2022 08:06

For me oats on their own are 45.

Oats + banana = 47

Oats + blueberries = 49

Oats + blueberries + smooth almond butter (my preferred breakfast) = 76

MassiveSalad22 · 29/07/2022 08:09

For me:

Banana = 49

Banana + almond butter = 76

Apple = 77

Apple + almond butter = 83

Good job I’m addicted to almond butter 😄

countrygal1 · 29/07/2022 10:50

I'm currently doing it and so far impressed with the way everything has been planned, the CGM (continuous glucose monitor) and the excellent packaging of everything. I have been prediabetic for 4 years but no medic seems to know why, since I have a low BMI, take lots of exercise, and had a scan which shows no excess visceral fat. I use a finger prick monitor and eat a very low carb diet and thought the ZOE study might help me to find a way of improving the condition. The poo sample was a walk in the park compared to day 3 (today) which involves eating 3 enormous muffins (plain) for breakfast then again for lunch. I don't know how anyone manages to get through 3 in 15 mins as I could only eat 2 - they were so stodgy I felt nauseous and still have lunch to come. As I expected, the CGM has soared up into the red zone, currently 14.1 and I'm a bit anxious about submitting my body to this again for lunch, then again tomorrow for breakfast.

MassiveSalad22 · 29/07/2022 11:50

Good luck @countrygal1 ! The new packaging looks great, it was very bizarre when I received mine, massive box with lots of dead space and filler cardboard! The muffins are rank, I think we all unanimously agree.

chutneypig · 29/07/2022 12:22

@countrygal1 I recoiled from a muffin at my conference yesterday! You've done the hard part.

They're in - just woke up to them 😊 Poor blood sugar control, fat control at the lower end of good and gut bacteria at the higher end. I want to have a good read of the detail on that, but I did wince at the cute names for the strains.

Off to look at my food scores now....

Wombat27A · 29/07/2022 12:42

Ha, do I win the prize for crappiest results so far...? 😁🏆😎

I started this thread just after getting my results as I was a bit meh/depressed too but actually as time has gone on, I've perked up considerably.

It's an adhd thingie to know all the stuff but not actually do it, so nudges in the right direction help, even if they are quite subtle.

I now have bulgar wheat, etc. The small swaps in the middle. It might be a spoiler but at one point the coaching says that we all know to eat spinach, it's more the grey areas and actually for me, that things like rice are just terrible for me.

I liked the short podcast on bad diet they put out last night. I think I fell asleep before the end but they were talking about optimal & feasible. 😁

chutneypig · 29/07/2022 12:59

Your insight has been a huge help for us following on behind @Wombat27A and it's good to hear how you're feeling being further down the line.

The good foods probably weren't a huge surprise. It's the middle ground I need help - I can either be very disciplined or not at all and I think the traffic lights will help me gain that balance. My smoothies weren't too bad in the end, the avocado one was the best.

I need to sit down with a pen and notepad and wade through the American suggestions to find things we have. I'm in the US at the moment and I don't think I'll be seeing anything on the green list today. The sugar just went on and on yesterday.

I've put 15th as my start date as I've got a holiday in the middle. Camping but I will take nuts with me 😊

Wombat27A · 29/07/2022 13:08

I think it comes down to adding a lot of nuts, beans & yoghurt for me to my diet, as I have to watch both the fat (type/amount) and sugar. I already ate a lot of veg but hate feeling hungry.

And fruit, we eat/ate a tonne of fruit. So now I think a bit more about how to eat it and also what to eat, sigh, way fewer bananas...

Some stuff cheered me up, chocolate and chips are way better for me than rice cakes!

I'm also thinking about portion sizes a lot more.

Happy to menu plan with anyone (as much as anyone with adhd can do!), as I love food but often lack inspiration and I do need to keep the diversity up for the gut! So easy to fall into a rut.

OP posts:
Wombat27A · 29/07/2022 13:09

Not that I ever ate a rice cake, more thought I should! :-)

OP posts:
lugeforlife · 29/07/2022 20:50

@Wombat27A I second what chutney says - you are our trailblazer!

Chutney, I am similar in terms of all or nothing. I think my challenge is going to 'let' myself eat the middle and find easy quick meals when I am busy.

Wombat27A · 29/07/2022 21:14

Ta. 😁

I think we probably are all a bit all or nothing. They have done scientific papers on the "what the hell" scenario, where if you eat a bit of rubbish, you fall off the wagon for a while.

My problem is that it can take 10kg before I get a grip. Fine at home, travelling & food or when busy/stressed is more of an issue.

OP posts:
Wombat27A · 29/07/2022 21:18

Oh, something I picked up on tonight is that I went back & looked at my report. Mainly, as they did a survey & I couldn't remember stuff.

In my report, it says to aim for 75 each day & I think that has changed to 60+. But is it because they have changed the scoring or just lowered the bar?

OP posts:
MassiveSalad22 · 30/07/2022 07:32

I am deffo all or nothing too. Been eating poorly last couple of days (worse than I normally do outside of Zoe - been travelling and had Zoe 103 lethargy!) and feel so much better to be honest 😄 maybe just the lack of gassy veg and bacteria.

Looking through my results I even have a poor glucose response to lettuce 😵‍💫 but I guess it’s all about pairing hey. Every single pulse is green across the board which makes no sense to me, so carby!? But I have faith all will become clear.

lugeforlife · 30/07/2022 08:23

@MassiveSalad22 it's the fibre though innit. Nuts here - every one green. I don't hate nuts but I am slightly allergic to walnuts and do prefer them wrapped in chocolate ;)

I start properly today! I did consider postponing as I am on holiday for the next 2 weeks with a couple of trips away but I thought it's a good learning to make better choices at every occasion. No way will I not be having the odd ice cream or fish and chips but need to try and manage that without going overboard.
