Zoe Nutrition Testing

Not sure this is the right place for this...

Anyone else doing the Zoe Nutrition Testing?

My results were poor, so now I'm tackling my diet. I thought it was pretty good but it's clear it needs a major overhaul. So much information but finding it good.🙂

@BarryKentPoet that's a bit disappointing innit. Hope it comes through soon

Has the app been playing up for anyone today? It kept arsing around for me.

FinallyHere · 20/07/2022 21:35

I've had the response back from the chat thread.

Re nutritional differences between variants of eg lettuce or cabbage, a decision was taken to streamline the database so there will be generic lettuce or cabbage but not different variants, regardless of any nutritional differences.

Re any nutritional difference between cooked and raw vegetables, the answer is that dispute cooking being considered a form of processing, it does 'not necessarily have a negative impact'.

Perhaps my expectations were too high. I rather expected that this was a chance to confirm any such differences for my metabolism.

Wombat27A · 20/07/2022 22:38

I would think cooking would make it easier to digest but might lose some nutrients.

I think they probably need to concentrate on the bigger picture stuff as this soft launch stage. They must have a total range of people who vary in needs.

I was at a review run by my local dietitians this morning & the participants ranged hugely in approach & understanding. Must be so hard to find a happy medium.

I guess they do have to balance across a range of people but I hope they think about options like @FinallyHere said for the future. I was getting to the stage with the testing that it felt easier to eat something with a bar code than my usual food.

I'm definitely feeling less bloated now - difficult to say on the energy front with the heat!

I'm not recording anything at the moment but the app had an error message for when my results were ready, so might have had some glitches.

lugeforlife · 21/07/2022 08:17

Chutney that's what I have too, Maybe my poo broke it.

I hit something of a wall over the past couple of days. No time to shop, busy at work, not as great in the plants/fibre. Brought home the importance of planning to me. And I am over dependant on cheese atm. Need to try and find some pulse recipes that I can batch cook (I am not the biggest fan but like Dahl and the odd chickpea thing).

Wombat27A · 21/07/2022 10:28

I do a spicy bean thing. Just onions, random veg, mix of beans & spices like chipotle flakes, cumin, coriander, etc. Have that with garlic yoghurt, salad/veg & a flatbread.

Yep, actually, you're right. They might be underestimating how interested people are & how precise people want to be. I was annoyed as I lost the last feedback survey fiddling on my phone.

Glucose Goddess on the latest Zoe podcast - although it’s not actually come up in my library yet!!

MassiveSalad22 · 21/07/2022 13:20

My app has been glitchy too and now my monitor is off I’ve been forgetting to even open it until the end of the day 😬

lugeforlife · 21/07/2022 14:01

Ohhhh@MassiveSalad22 they've got a bit in the menopause study too! Youngster that you are, you are probably less excited than I am.

Wombat27A · 21/07/2022 15:59

Library?

What's the menopause thing?

OP posts:
MassiveSalad22 · 21/07/2022 16:00

@Wombat27A i meant my library in my podcast app, you’re not missing a part of the Zoë app :)

Wombat27A · 21/07/2022 16:02

Ta, I'm always finding new things in the app and it's entirely possible I miss things quite often!

Ha @lugeforlife in early choked on the cheese I was stuffing in my mouth when I read your post on being overly dependent on it Grin it was only cheese and dark chocolate that reliably didn't give me a spike. Not a good combo for a healthy diet.

I did have kimchi for lunch though. My work canteen has got a very good variety on the plant side.

MassiveSalad22 · 21/07/2022 19:51

Wondering if I’m eating too many probiotic foods - kefir, sauerkraut, kombucha mainly - as my digestive system has not been happy the last few months! But DH’s has been a bit iffy too and his diet is rotten. Could be coincidence. Hard to know. Scared to up the probios in case I feel even worse! Gah!

Wombat27A · 21/07/2022 20:12

My DH was eating too much raw food & got quite bunged up. Took ages to sort.

Have got my results and have poor sugar and fat control. Pitta, white bread, crumpets, scones ie my go to comfort and day to day have very poor scores and 'dock' my good ones. But am really enjoying playing with food combos before I decide what to eat - so this morning improved my score to 80 for breakfast by stopping peanut butter from my porridge and apple with 20g of Linwoods flaxseed sunflower and pumpkin linwoodshealthfoods.com/shop/. And for fellow sweet to others try Waitrose Flaxseed Inulin cacao - I cant copy the link as it takes me straight to my Waitrose app but its just like a sprinkle of chocolate power which I add to Yoghurt with berries.

Quick question on sauerkraut. Tried a tablespoon last night and instant explosive gas. Is this the mighty good bugs doing battle with the forces of dark bugs in my gut so do I keep on going and it will diminish? Or do I start with a teaspoon a day and increase? Or a teaspoon a meal? Any thoughts?

Iwouldliketogovegan · 22/07/2022 10:35

Argh apologies for predictive text changes - should say sweet tooth

MassiveSalad22 · 22/07/2022 12:03

Wow great tips @Iwouldliketogovegan i’ll track down that Waitrose stuff!

Your sauerkraut reaction makes me think that’s what I’m going through too. Really explosive 😄 am catastrophising after googling but most likely too many good bugs I guess. No idea if will calm down or not!

Wombat27A · 22/07/2022 12:07

Why don't you try a bit of kefir in things, might be a little less of a "Game of Thrones" battle between gut bugs?

OP posts:
Wombat27A · 22/07/2022 12:12

That's really good to know about linseeds. I've got lazy about swapping. I do walnuts in my porridge now.

Definitely losing weight very slowly.

I listened to the Zoe/Glucose Goddess podcast. So understand the sequence of food/acv things more.

Blast, there was more but I can't catch the bubbles in my head just now. 😁

chutneypig · 22/07/2022 15:01

I'm thinking about my kimchi yesterday, hmm, might have had an impact.

Kefir doesn't agree with me, but I do tend to have trouble with dairy closer to milk, cheese etc ok, but milk not. I assume it's the lactose. I was a bit wary with the Greek yogurt this week but it seemed ok.

Iwouldliketogovegan · 22/07/2022 16:16

@Wombat27A thanks - Kefir - the yoghurt sort - and Greek Yogurt don’t seem to give me a problem 🤷‍♀️And Kombucha also fine - will persevere with the teaspoon approach as my good bugs could do with a boost. I’ve posed a question to the support team as to whether there are supplements worth taking - think it might just be a case of diet change. Am feeling very pleased smug with myself as my lunchtime salad in a cafe arrived with unexpected croutons and I gave all but 1 to DH. I did however accept and log a spoonful of his brownie and ice cream so not yet polishing my 😇- baby steps

Wombat27A · 22/07/2022 17:25

I've just had a Tesco ready meal but ate it in order of veg, protein then carbs...

Interestingly, whippet-thin DH has always eaten his meals in order of things he likes, so veg, protein and carbs. It's always driven me mad as I like to mix food.

Talking of whippets, my actual whippet is too thin, perhaps the lack of leftover snacks is affecting everyone in the family.

Wombat27A · 22/07/2022 17:26

The kefir is normally separated and ancient by the time I use it again, so very far from milk. :-)

Beetroot brownies and gin = plant based yeah? Juniper is a berry....
