Zoe Nutrition Testing

Wombat27A · 15/06/2022 08:15

Not sure this is the right place for this...

Anyone else doing the Zoe Nutrition Testing?

My results were poor, so now I'm tackling my diet. I thought it was pretty good but it's clear it needs a major overhaul. So much information but finding it good.🙂

And different kinds of cabbage green, white etc and different kinds of lettuce.

I was hoping to have confirmed that eg ruby gem lettuce is different to other lettuce eg lambs lettuce, butter lettuce etc.

BarryKentPoet · 19/07/2022 09:38

I've not even had a dispatch notice, nothing at all since I signed up & paid on 12th July.

Wombat27A · 19/07/2022 10:09

They must have added to the info provided after I signed up or I didn't find it but I didn't have any of the dates for reports visible on the app. I just got a note to say it was available.

Ask them about the raw cabbage? I assume they think people eat mostly ultra processed stuff or it was data easier to find?

I'd chase about the despatch, particularly to check if it's got lost in transit because of the muffins.

My bowels are definitely happier, as is how puffy I feel. I'm slipping a bit because I'm baking a bit but trying to mitigate things.

I need to remind myself about order of foods.

Yeah, I asked the boy over the weekend. Not heard back yet. I'll chase them now

lugeforlife · 19/07/2022 11:11

@FinallyHere I asked a question last week which took them a little time to get back on.

I must say pre results I'm finding the database ok. I go down the 'closest thing' route so where I made my own frittata I've just added in an Asda one because I don't think the recipe builder option is open to me yet. I don't have much processed food except pizza on a Friday.

Not sure if I need to get sharper when the results are in.

@chutneypig, they've had my poo for ages too but I guess that dna stuff they do with it takes time. I am a little bit nervous given my pooastrophe that my sample isn't good enough but I would have hoped they'd have said by now.

FinallyHere · 19/07/2022 11:27

Thank you @lugeforlife

Perhaps my expectation were too high, I can be a bit like that when I get a new toy. However, I am still very interested in checking any differences between specific foods which just don't appear to be in the db at that level of granularity.

I've chased my question in the chat and will update when I hear back.

Flockameanie · 19/07/2022 11:32

Like someone else (can’t remember who) I got a bigger spike combining the bread with nut butter than just bread 2 days ago (blood sugar challenges), but the app only seems programmed for acknowledging a smaller spike. Weird/ annoying.

I’m wondering why now I got a bigger spike - it doesn’t really make ‘sense’…

Flockameanie · 19/07/2022 15:21

FFS just got an even more massive spike having ACV before a bagel rather than it on its own. WTF is going on??

Wombat27A · 19/07/2022 15:39

I wish I'd done this stuff with you all. Lots more forensic!

OP posts:
MassiveSalad22 · 19/07/2022 16:21

Same @Flockameanie i had a bigger spike with bread and cheese than just bread. I fed back to the team that they need a response to that in the quiz thing, because they were just like, ‘great, exactly, add protein and you will spike less’ - but that wasn’t the case for me.

I became convinced I will be told I have prediabetes. But my average level and my estimated A1C was fine. So I guess just wait and see if the results shed any more light.

tootiredtobother · 19/07/2022 16:27

Save yourselves a ton of money and go find the book Glucose Revolution.. i lost a stone easily it's a lot like this Zoe thing from what I have skim read on here..
unless you have a def food intolerance/allergy situation it's the easiest 'diet' ive followed.

I’ve got it already! And read it! And I mention her hacks a lot upthread. I found her book/ Instagram a revelation and it has helped convince me that a calorie is not a calorie. Although, as I discovered today the ACV hack had zero impact on my spike. Neither does ‘putting clothes on my carbs’. In fact both made it worse. I’ll find out tomorrow if the post-eating exercise hack works for me when I test that.

Also, I’m not doing Zoe to lose weight. I’m intrigued to know about my gut biome and blood fat control, as well as glucose, and that’s beyond what TGG covers or what a glucose monitor can tell me.

I’m also not doing it as a weight loss diet, but as an evidence based way to improve my health and manage some long term conditions. The glucose element is just one part of it.

Still doing my challenges and logging my meals, but I’m way off what I normally eat because of the heat.

lugeforlife · 19/07/2022 18:03

I am hoping weight loss is a consequence of some of the learnings from the programme I'd be lying if I said I wasn't. But that is mostly because I want to be more active, more energetic and feel better. I don't want any huge loss, I want to get down to the size 14 which seems to be my set point and stay there without fighting against myself.

I think the blood fat element will be really important for me as I put weight on very easily and always have done. So glucose is part of the picture but not all of it.

Wombat27A · 19/07/2022 18:04

I am overweight but that doesn't particularly worry me, randomly adding weight when I eat well does. This has helped, as it's hard to explain to hcp that you're both obese & eat properly.

Again, I was also interested in my gut biome & previously I think it was not easy to get it sampled and certainly not at a reasonable cost.

chutneypig · 19/07/2022 18:15

@BarryKentPoet I'd definitely get in ouch and check. Mine arrived within the week. I checked back to see when I got the dispatch notice but must have deleted it.

I'm definitely in this for weight loss as well as improved digestion. I read that book after I'd signed up but I know the ACV and post food exercise didn't have any impact on my spikes. Our different responses on here are supportive of a tailored approach.

They must be happy with your sample @lugeforlife if we're both on the same final step. I guess it's the analysis for the DNA that takes time, if the actual processing took this long I'd be surprised. I'm so impatient!

MassiveSalad22 · 19/07/2022 18:18

Absolutely this!!! To my shame I have a fatty liver (I’m 32 and never drink), and looking up the recommended diet - it’s exactly how I eat already. So. Really interested in the blood fat tests. Glucose Goddess isn’t much help there @tootiredtobother !

lugeforlife · 19/07/2022 19:05

@Flockameanie are you anywhere near your period? I had 10 days of fairly stable readings then the last few days I went batshit. Stuff that I'd been ok with (bananas, cherries) sending me sky high, super high reading through the night. It was weird. Main difference was period.

Flockameanie · 19/07/2022 19:32

Interesting @lugeforlife. I haven’t had a period for 5 months (peri-menopausal) so your guess is as good as mine.

I wonder if/ how they factor that in? If something hormonal is giving me inaccurate results, is that going to throw everything/ give me an inaccurate report??

lugeforlife · 19/07/2022 20:03

I asked the chat function. They said they haven't really got that functionality in there but that peri menopause definitely has an impact. I am taking the view that it shows a tendency there that I need to pay attention to

Flockameanie · 19/07/2022 20:07

Interesting @lugeforlife. I just got a normal response to my normal (protein heavy and no ‘quick’ carbs) dinner. So I think it’s more likely I’ve got absolutely shit blood glucose control. I never eat white bread anyway, so I won’t particularly mind if I’m told to avoid it)

Wombat27A · 19/07/2022 20:16

I googled after the last posts about cycles & it does make a big difference, apparently. Diabetics have to adjust for it sometimes.

Things you are never told.

I've started a thread on this but had only 1 response. I love the book! But I am also doing Zoe so I can test the "hacks" and see my individual tolerances as it isn't one size fits all.

BarryKentPoet · 20/07/2022 10:24

I messaged the chat about my missing kit, all they said was that there was a delay in posting them out and it should be dispatched soon.
