Zoe Nutrition Testing

Wombat27A · 15/06/2022 08:15

Not sure this is the right place for this...

Anyone else doing the Zoe Nutrition Testing?

My results were poor, so now I'm tackling my diet. I thought it was pretty good but it's clear it needs a major overhaul. So much information but finding it good.🙂

That's some good detail you got from the support team @massive salad.

I'm with you on not loving the carby breakfast @lugeforlife. I'm very puzzled by mine today - I went for a brisk walk after my bagel, had absolutely no impact on my blood sugar profile, looked exactly the same as the first day.

I was the same, so exercise and the ACV had little or no impact on me.

ArrangeYourFace1 · 12/07/2022 13:16

Food combining works for me though.

Sending positive thoughts to those with health anxiety. Flowers

I am trying to look at it analytically rather than taking things personally, if that makes sense.
I’m stuck with this body and it’s quirks, how can I make it work better.

Not that any kind of anxiety is that easily rationalised away, we wouldn’t have it otherwise! Especially when it comes to relationships with food. So much to unpick.

ArrangeYourFace1 · 12/07/2022 13:36

@Wombat27A and anyone else who has their results…is there a way of ordering the food list by highest score? I can’t see one. Seems like an obvious function to have. So say you search for yogurt, I wish I could see the best yogurt for me to eat at the top.

FinallyHere · 12/07/2022 14:08

@ArrangeYourFace1

Shall have to go back and check but the lists I have seen, I'm almost sure are definitely sorted by highest score at the top.

Wombat27A · 12/07/2022 14:11

Under "browse foods" they are listed in order. The meals are too.

There are more headings with tabs if you click into it, so it could be clearer.

Thank you for being sweet. I think I just get a bit glum sometimes.

So I have looked at my 5 days of bagels

Just bagel - spike (although all my spikes are typically about 1.5 so not huge). In 3 hours almost but not quite back to normal.

Cheese - totally flat

Bagel with cheese - spike but less and more gentle. Back to normal in 3 hrs

Bagel and walk - same as bagel with cheese but didn't return to normal as as swiftly.

Bagel then cheese - slower spike but not much lower than day 1.

I didn't experience any dips on any day.

So overall don't eat white carbs and if you do, have em with a bit of fat!

Got it thanks! I was just searching for foods rather than browsing the bit with the headings like dairy.

ArrangeYourFace1 · 12/07/2022 15:12

Do we know if we get access to these food scores forever now or will they go away once our subscription ends? I might ask them in the chat.

Wombat27A · 12/07/2022 15:28

Apparently, the way to do homemade sourdough bread is by adding the recipe to favourite foods.

Have you saved your own recipes in the app?

When you're on the homepage of the ZOE app, please click on the magnifying glass on the bottom of the screen. Then please click on "Favorite meals", then "Create a new favorite meal". Please then add all the ingredients that come into the recipe and click "Save new meal".

To add only a portion of that recipe to your journal, please go to the 'Home' tab and click "+". Specify the type of meal.

Then, click the "My favorites" tab and choose the recipe you'd like to add to your journal from your saved recipes.

That’s really good to know, if a little tedious to start off with!

I asked them and they said we won’t have access to any of the Zoe app once subscription ends, so no scores or anything.

I’ve finally started and put my glucose monitor on yesterday. Like many of you, I’m slightly obsessed with taking readings. I was really surprised that my lunch today pushed it from 5.6 before I ate to well over 9 an hour later. It’s come down since, but that’s a big ol’ spike. Muffin day tomorrow.

Wombat27A · 12/07/2022 20:26

@QueenofWhatever Have a cup of black coffee, tea or water at the ready. ☕👍

Enjoy!

Good luck @QueenofWhatever. Drink to get those buggers down!

So my question of the morning - periods! Anyone notice impact on their glucose? Mine was as high as it's ever been this morning and guess what the scarlet pixie bought me. Is this a thing? Yesterday was a fairly low/even day and I slept well which previously correlated to a low (for me) morning reading

MassiveSalad22 · 13/07/2022 08:18

Hmmmm you may be onto something there @lugeforlife , last week’s readings were much more erratic/worse and I had my period.

lugeforlife · 13/07/2022 08:22

So apparently it is a thing dr google tells me.

Honestly I'm spiking like a mofo AND I did some exercise this morning (although pre food which I think can make it spike anyway). Worse I've ever been on my penultimate day!

Flockameanie · 13/07/2022 15:09

It’s definitively a thing @lugeforlife. Glucose Goddess has posts on this - comparing her glucose charts from when she is pre/menstrual to not. More/bigger spikes.

MassiveSalad22 · 13/07/2022 15:58

I am having a day of experiments - jacket potato with beans and cheese, surprisingly only a 1.3mmol spike 😃 now I am having 2 chocolate bars, purely for science of course.
I’m growing more and more confident that my blood fat is going to be an absolute shit show, there has to be some reason I weigh 100kg 😂 I weigh 5kg more now than the week after I had my c section 14 weeks ago. Depressing! I’m pretty confident in my microbiome though, regularly eating sauerkraut and kefir, regularly drink kombucha and coffee. And exercise at least daily. But am sure my results will bring me down a peg haha.

lugeforlife · 13/07/2022 18:09

Oh Massive how was the chocolate?

I found out at a work jolly that beer on its own was ok. That was a plus ;)

Now re gut health, does anyone make their own kefir? If so where do they get their grain as I quite fancy this. I have done sourdough starter once but it's a faff for the amount of bread we eat as a family. I have made my own kimchi before and need to do so again I think. Also want to make s few pickles.

chutneypig · 13/07/2022 18:52

Result on the beer @lugeforlife

Dark chocolate was a flatline for me, also good news. Hopefully also for you @MassiveSalad22

I had a cake after lunch yesterday and got my first spike out of range. I had a headache in the afternoon and dipped into the red about 3am today. Amazing to see how long the impact lasted,

QueenofWhatever · 13/07/2022 20:06

Managed to get through both sets of muffins OK with multiple cups of green tea and water. Think I preferred the grimness of the breakfast ones to the sweetness of the lunchtime ones. Neither significantly spiked my blood sugar so I thought that’s all good. Then this evening I’ve had baked potato with chess and a big salad and it’s gone from five and half to well over 12. I’m astounded!

MassiveSalad22 · 13/07/2022 20:12

Ah well done @QueenofWhatever , those muffins are a challenge! 😄

Dark choc (90%) always totally fine for me. Today I had crappy choc and spiked up to about 8 looking at my chart, and 3 hours later I was crashing down into the red. So pretty textbook! Maybe I should repeat tomorrow with a peanut butter starter or something 😄

Monitor comes off on Sunday 😭 sad!

MassiveSalad22 · 13/07/2022 20:14

Interestingly after I dipped down into the red I then had an apple and almond butter, one of my fave snacks, and that spiked me up to about 7 too anyway. But, obviously much healthier in other ways than chocolate bar!

Wombat27A · 13/07/2022 20:16

I do my own kefir. A friend gave me some grains a few years ago & it lurks in my fridge.

It's fairly low maintenance. 😁

OP posts:
chutneypig · 13/07/2022 21:02

I'd have been surprised at a spike with that dinner too @QueenofWhatever - just goes to show how variable we all are.

I've not tried kefir. I did make a lot of kombucha last year. Or vinegar as DH called it Grin

lugeforlife · 13/07/2022 21:52

Oh I like something low maintenance. I shall give it a name and everything.

Last day of the monitor tomorrow. I just had a re look over my charts and seem to be ok with non refined wheat carbs - rice, bulgar wheat, fruit and carby veg (so stuff with a bit of fibre I guess) but not so great with the flour based stuff like white bread and pasta. So be interesting to see my proper results.

I am looking forward to the next but I think. I have found the monitor a bit stressful and tbh I think I've put a bit of weight on as between testing the fuck it foods, the muffins and the bagel tests, I've eaten more than usual.
