Not sure this is the right place for this...

Anyone else doing the Zoe Nutrition Testing?

My results were poor, so now I'm tackling my diet. I thought it was pretty good but it's clear it needs a major overhaul. So much information but finding it good.🙂

I've tried to PM a link @Plural - hope it comes through ok, don't think I'm having my best day technology wise!

Plural · 10/07/2022 22:49

All your results are really interesting. I'm on the waiting list but does anyone have any referral codes left?

I do, I can PM it

ArrangeYourFace1 · 11/07/2022 08:00

@Plural just seen @chutneypig s message. I’ll hold off on the pm!

Morning lovelies

Does anyone listen to the Zoe podcasts? I just listened to an exercise one whilst doing my brisk walk post sodding bagel. Was very interesting and made me go 'hah' at the discussion dh and I gave (he is an exercise bunny and sees it as the reason to excuse bad food habits). Interested to listen to the keto one as well.

I do, I’m halfway through the keto one, it’s very interesting!

I love a good myth busting session.

BarryKentPoet · 11/07/2022 10:09

I'm still waiting for my kit to arrive but I have a referral link for early access if anyone would like it

Wombat27A · 11/07/2022 10:52

Does anyone fancy doing me some key points from the podcasts, please?

My, ahem, attention span struggles with them. I like Rangan Chatterjee too but his podcasts are often nearly 2 hours long & I last about 2 mins. 😁

Hi ZOE’ers. I’m collecting my poop sample today 😬. Any tips? I’m worried about missing the hammock or accidentally peeing on it, etc!

lugeforlife · 11/07/2022 11:40

@Wombat27A I can later :)

@Flockameanie see my post below. Relax, don't panic, trust the hammock and try not to spill the liquid

Flockameanie · 11/07/2022 11:59

@lugeforlife thanks but I’ve done it now because the time came. Might take me a while to get over digging around in my own poo 🤢. But yes, the hammock didn’t fail me even if I did pee on it

chutneypig · 11/07/2022 11:59

I listened to the bread and keto podcast. I preferred the bread one, it felt a little more balanced and had a couple of the Zoe team on rather than the one expert.

The main takeaway for me from the bread one was how much unwanted extras are in shop bought bread, even in sourdough. Making your own was better and using all the different grains available. I am currently eating some whole meal bread I made in my breadmaker and praying I don't get a spike! If you hear distant sobbing then you know what happened Grin

lugeforlife · 11/07/2022 12:59

Right the exercise one was:

Do some! 30 mins brisk walk a day broken into small chunks will have positive health benefits

Best to do some strength stuff as well as cardio. Both needed, both use different fuel sources and have different purpose

Protein shakes not needed for non elite dudes/those who don't do strict intermittent fasting as you'll get enough in 3 meals a day.

Fasted exercise seems to burn more fat and helps blood fat/sugar. But it's not great for bones as it leeches calcium so best to mix and match approach.

Supplements are not bad if you need them. Calcium/omega3 are vital so vegans (calcium) and veggies (omega 3) can be useful.

Exercise great and good for weight maintenance but has much less impact on weight loss. Plus exercise will not make up for a bad diet.

Women burn more fat than men do due to oestrogen but that slows around peri and beyond

Peri and beyond women need:
Enough good quality protein
To lift heavy weights/something load bearing
Running counts as good load bearing exercise so fulfils a similar purpose. Other cardio doesn't as you aren't getting the impact through your legs.

They said yoga didn't help with weight loss but had lots of other benefits then ran out of time to give more detail.

I was most interested in the fasted exercise bit (I hate doing anything after I've eaten so this really suits me!) and also it's encouraged me to think about restarting running. I need to go slow as I have a damaged knee but brisk walking and some strength work for a couple of months then restart c25k with a bit of yoga thrown in sounds good!

Wombat27A · 11/07/2022 13:48

I'm fairly expert with bread, ironically, so if anyone needs pointers for making your own...

Thanks for the precis, very much appreciated.

I can't eat then exercise either.

Which membership plan is everyone signed up to? I am wondering about just doing the monthly one and then cancelling after the first month. How valuable is the ongoing support?

I can give it a go when I’m back to normality in a few days! It’ll help me remember too

The bread one was very interesting but I wasn’t much into the sourdough woman! I don’t know why she just rubbed me the wrong way 😆

I found the fats one very good

Mine looked like this. I’m not sure I had any other options when I signed up

Zoe Nutrition Testing
FinallyHere · 11/07/2022 15:55

My results arrived, on the Monday rather than the Friday of these week.

Interesting enough, I'm not surprised to read that my blood sugar control has deteriorated sense I last tested it in 2006. Blood fat not brilliant. Ration of good : bad gut bugs shoes high.

Pity, I thought the gut bugs one might be the easiest to improve.

I see what people mean about the database of food not being so very comprehensive yet. My current wad of eating does keep my blood sugar level so it's all good really. Looking forward to finding out where else there is to learn.

Wombat27A · 11/07/2022 16:19

I follow all sorts of bread people on IG, etc. and er, I'll say no more. 😁

I went for the 3 months & been doing the lessons. I'm not sure how much of the daily stuff you'd get through in a month?

I wouldn't sign up for a year tho, not unless the database improved.

OP posts:
Wombat27A · 11/07/2022 16:20

Or was it 4 months?

OP posts:
MassiveSalad22 · 11/07/2022 16:35

Yes I signed up for 4 months too. Given the results take 6 weeks to arrive I’m not sure a month would be a good idea. I thought May as well do 4 months as knowing me I’d sign up for the rolling month and keep forgetting to cancel it, so would end up paying for 4 months anyway 😄

Flockameanie · 11/07/2022 17:19

I thought the coaching subscription didn’t kick in until you get your results? So 4 months from when you get them. Or am I wrong?

All this about the database being a bit crap is making me slightly regret the massive amount of money I paid to do this. If the food we eat/ are supposed to eat isn’t in there then what’s the point? I’m already finding this trying to log my meals. Pretty much everything I eat I prepare from scratch, including my own bread. Given the recent Zoe podcast on bread it seems bonkers there’s no entry for homemade sourdough, for eg. Even better would be to be able to upload my daily entries from My Macros + (similar to MyFitnessPal).

chutneypig · 11/07/2022 17:28

I went for 4 months too. I was a bit surprised about the lack of homemade bread too. My levels did go up with the whole meal at lunch but didn't plummet back down again. Not sure if that's good or not.

I could live with the app if it grouped additions so it was easy to put a repeat in, or copy meals like you can on MFP.

Wombat27A · 11/07/2022 17:35

Definitely worth it (for me) for the scoring. They know the DB is lacking. I think it's getting an overhaul about now to change some of the scores.

My issue is more I need to stop tracking for a while for reasons to do with how my own brain works. Been "good" for weeks now, I know when to take a break. The odd whinge helps too.

As an indication of how my diet is better than it was, it's fine.

I've been a bit vague about lots of bits as I do think it's a process & cumulative & don't want to spoil anything for anyone. I assume, given the scientific nature, they've laid the course out like they do for a reason.
