I know there is a mumsnet runners thread but I am a total beginner, and feel a bit overawed on there as they all seem really experienced.

I am going to be following this training programme, running 3x a week, starting next week once my children are back at school. I say running, but in reality i will be starting with a brisk walk, then picking up the pace over the next couple of months.

I have registered interest in Race For life, which is may/june, and will be taking part in the harefield fun run.

Anyone want to join me

Feel really chuffed, as managed to do part 1 of week 1 (without too much desire to upchuck).

Had to walk for 10 minutes through village afterwards, as don't think neighbours are up to sight of lumbering hippo trotting, scarlet faced, past the end of the garden.

Not so much dances with wolves as lumbers with wooluff

Aitch · 12/02/2008 14:40

well done, i LOVE your name.

Furball · 12/02/2008 15:32

well done wooluffy - it's great isn't it?

I'll race you to the dessert trolley at the next meet up

MrsCarrot · 12/02/2008 16:51

My friendis away this week and I know I should go out on my own and do another batch of eights before aiming for the 20 mins but it's so cold out there today.

I haven't been since Saturday so I really ought to.

OrmIrian · 12/02/2008 17:18

You know you're getting somewhere when there's a chance of you not being able to go running and you start getting all snappy. 6 months ago I'd have been grateful

pinkspottywellies · 12/02/2008 18:06

MrsC it's not cold once you get out there and you could always have a bacon sandwich when you get back

Just done first run of week 6. It was good. I did more of a run than a jog and definite brisk walking on the walks rather than my usual slow walk, working up to brisk! Keep at it everyone!!

MrsCarrot · 12/02/2008 19:35

Waaaahoooo

just got back from my grudging run with ds1 and we did ten mins, walked for two, and then did twenty four mins without stopping!

I am very pleased indeed.

Well done to ds as well, he's never been with me before, though he is sporty so I was expecting him to be quite good.

Minum · 12/02/2008 19:46

Hey PSW look at you, running, brisk walking, fantasic. And MrsC, thats amazing, you and your DS. I'm taking a grudging DS out at the weekend, not sure we'll reach such giddy heights

No running for me today, but I had a nice bike ride, and attempting 22mins tomorrow.

Who's the next wondermum to go on the list

Aitch · 12/02/2008 20:13

i should definitely be out running tonight but my knee is still wonky.
if i go tomorrow should i try week 3/1 or should i repeat 2/3? what is week three anyway?

Aitch · 12/02/2008 20:13

ooooooh look! there's a list! well done everyone!

wheelybug · 12/02/2008 20:23

Aitch - go for the next week. You can always slow down in the longer bits. Week 3 was some 90 sec runs and some 3 minute runs. You'll be fine.

Am starting week 5 tomorrow so I should be on the 20 minuters list by the end of the week but am not entirely convinced.....

LadyJogsAlot · 12/02/2008 20:23

i went out tonight

i ran for 2 and a half mins (5 times) with brisk walking of 1 and a half mins in between.

on the last run, i ran well over 3 mins and have asked dh to make me a mix of jog 3 mins walk 1 min

i am pleased as when i started 5 weeks ago, i just about managed running 1 min, walking 4.

i really felt different today, felt like i am actually getting fit. maybe it's because i didn't go on monday!

Minum · 12/02/2008 20:51

WB - you'll do it - your name will be up in lights And LJA, you're doing fab, isnt it a great feeling to be fitter

Mumooms · 12/02/2008 21:26

Well I did run 2 of week 1 tonight, much better to run before dinner than after .

I also walked for about an hour this morning (tried to go to m&t group for the first time ever but didnt realise it's half term here ). Feeling quite tired now!

Going to boxercise tomorrow evening with a friend so I hope I dont work myself too hard.. but it is my first time so maybe they'll go easy

Anyone mind me asking what everyone's goals are? Mine - to lose 1.5/2st in weight and get my thighs under control also, I'd like to spur Dh into some exercise as he really needs it!

LadyJogsAlot · 12/02/2008 21:48

well done mumooms!

my goal is to lose some weight, not sure how much.

but what i REALLY REALLY REALLY want...

...is to have thghs with that nice gap between them. and then i want to wear stockings and suspenders

LilRedWG · 12/02/2008 22:07

Wow! You are all doing great! I'll be joining you asap.

Minum · 12/02/2008 22:07

My goals are to feel younger, to lose 2 stone, to regain my legs so I can wear shorts again, to be able to keep up with the boys when we do family activities, and to do a 10km run, and have everyone cheering when I cross the finish line.

LilRedWG · 12/02/2008 22:08

Ooo - goals! Get fit again. 21 month after having DD I'm still not totally recovered from SPD and want to beat the bugger! I also want to lose a couple of stone please.

MrsMichaelHutchence · 12/02/2008 22:08

i don't have a goal, should i get one?

MrsMichaelHutchence · 12/02/2008 22:09

sorry, it's aitch. goal-less aitch. running for 3 minutes without my heart giving out is my current goal...

LilRedWG · 12/02/2008 22:09

Who am I kidding, "get fit again". I haven't been fit for twenty years!!!!

LilRedWG · 12/02/2008 22:10

Sounds like a damn good goal to me Aitch.

MrsMichaelHutchence · 12/02/2008 22:12

[pleased]

[petrified]
