What's your aim for 2008?

Mine is to enjoy running for the whole of 10k rather than just the middle 20 minutes - and it would be great to do the distance in under an hour but I'm not overly hopeful in that respect

OP posts:
hammouhouseofhorror · 18/10/2008 11:57

Ran 17k yesterday and I am on such a high. I was aiming for a half marathon, but misjudged distance. Would love to do a full marathon but in for some more training I think.
I had shin splints earlier in the year but on changing the way I run, they don't seem to bother me.

Invested in a tens machine...brilliant for post run aches and pains.

I get pins and needles if I do my shoes up too tight and for me I recuced the blisters I was getting by wearing two pairs of socks.

My 5 yr old DD loves coming with me on short runs and she is amazing, short bursts but very fast like your Ds
smbk. A runner in the making, I would love that.

MingMingtheWonderPet · 18/10/2008 16:43

Hi Ladies!
Just popped in to see if anybody is doing the Maidstone Half Marathon tomorrow?
Bit of a longshot, but thought I would check it out.
Hope anyone who is going a long run tomorrow has a great day

Wallace · 18/10/2008 20:40

Qell done hhoh

Hi Ming, I'm doing the Aviemore Half Marathon tomorrow so we can cheer each other on at a distance. Good luck!

I'm so nervous...

sfxmum · 19/10/2008 09:00

best of luck for those racing today

MingMingtheWonderPet · 19/10/2008 15:17

Had a great morning.
Managed to get round in 2.19.39 which, tho not great in the grand scheme of things, i wa pretty pleased with.
Tough course tho, I don't actually remember any flats, all up and down. Was described as 'challenging' on the Runners World website! While waiting for the loos i overheard someone saying 'Oh, I love this half marathon, it's a really hard course' - nutter alert I thought to myself!
How did you get on at Aviemore Wallace? Hope you are recovering with some jelly babies and a nice cuppa now (or is that just me?!)

Wallace · 19/10/2008 17:03

Well done

I think my time was about the same as yours I am very pleased too - my target was 2.30!

Ours was undulating, so not so bad

hammouhouseofhorror · 19/10/2008 20:35

Brilliant Ming and Wallace..I'm impatient to do another one now..pity it is dark.

I usually recover with a very sweet Latte and a kitkat.

I wanna run NOW!!!

BlessThisMess · 19/10/2008 21:32

Wallace and Ming, congratulations! The times sound brilliant - well done.

babydriver · 19/10/2008 21:41

Well done MingMing and Wallace. I can't imagine doing a half marathon (or a full one for that matter!) so am very impressed by anyone who can manage one.

I've not been going out so regularly now my 10K is done, but managed to get a cheap winter running jacket and running rucksack at Tchibo so running part-way home is back on the agenda when things at work are slightly less busy. We're also getting a new gym at work so I'm keen to try that out next month when it opens.

Have a good week all.

sfxmum · 20/10/2008 09:09

wing and wallace well done! I really must enter a race of some sort, very inspiring

hi all

MingMingtheWonderPet · 20/10/2008 10:15

Well done Wallace. Undulating is code for pretty hilly too so you did really well.

My legs are sore today and I have the option of giving blood or going to netball training - not sure which is less appealing!

babydriver - I have never checked out Tchibo for running gear, I must have a look.

maviscrewit · 20/10/2008 14:25

Well done everyone who raced this weekend. I managed an off road 10k over the Welcombe Hills near Stratford. I was slightly worried when one of the officials said that you won't find a harder 10k . I managed it in 57 mins and wasn't last but crikey it was hard work. I think I need to lose a stone to make it a bit easier to get up the hills!!

Wallace · 20/10/2008 20:27

My legs re sore tody too, especilly if I hve been sitting down t ll. (just relised tht certin key on my keybord isn't working, cn you tell which letter? I did spill te on it tody )

My gun time ws two hours, sixteen minutes nd thirtyfour seconds (just found out my number one key isn't working either ) I think my chip time will be t lest minute fster

Well done mvisscrewit - tht is relly good time

maviscrewit · 20/10/2008 21:34

Wallace lol at tea on the computer! I hope it dries out soon. Well done on your half marathon, I'd love to do one but the furthest I have been so far is 10.5 miles, so only a couple more miles. I could really get into racing its just hard to find the time. My legs are killing me today, especially going downstairs, I have to go sideways - oooh those hills really were a killer! What's your next target?

Wallace · 21/10/2008 06:23

My furthest trining run ws eleven miles, so you would mnge hlf mrthon no problem (I think my keybord hs hd it btw...)

Over the winter I would like to get fster over 5k t the sme time s keeping the distnce going so I will be redy for nother hlf mrthon in Mrch.

How bout you? You should go for hlf mrthon

hatwoman · 21/10/2008 20:07

can I rejoin? I haven't been on this thread for yonks. glad to see it's still going. I got a marathon place today . what on earth have I done? I told dh that the only way to get it out of my system was to do it. it's the third year of contemplating it - one year I just went in the ballot and didn;t get a place, last year got a golden bond place and then realised I'd been a complete feckwit and I was, in fact, going to be on holiday - but 2009 is the year. shit shit shit

Wallace · 21/10/2008 20:12

Fntstic I'm so envious Is it the London one?

We will be your own online personl triners

hatwoman · 21/10/2008 20:12

justnoticed foxinsocks is on here - I didn;t know you ran...I have to say I think we're in one of the best areas to run. I've been very lax over summer and am so looking forward to getting my distances up so I can go for longer runs round Richmond and Bushy Parks. love it.

hatwoman · 21/10/2008 20:14

yep. funnily enough I won;t be living in London by then but yes, 'tis London. I got a very quick reply from a charity called Merlin - which is a set up I know and respect hugely - from what they've said they've got places left...

Wallace · 21/10/2008 20:33

Ooh just got my chip time, it is 2:14:40

MingMingtheWonderPet · 22/10/2008 11:53

Well done Wallace, I had wanted to get under 2:15, but didn't make it - maybe next time!

Well done on your marathon place hatwoman, let the training begin! I did it in 2006 and it was a great day, but I have no great desire to do it again, maybe in a couple more years!

hatwoman · 22/10/2008 13:24

well training is going well. I fell flat on my face this morning . quite literally. sprawled across the pavement. and have the bruises and grazes to show for it.In true stiff upper lip fashion I got up and although I thought I was going to be sick/keel over I walked on. mainly because I had just overtaken a bunch of mums from school and I knew they'd make a terrible fuss and insist on taking me to someone's house and making me sit down and drink water. which was obviously the sensible thing to do but I'm just too f'ing [tries to think of appropriate adjective...] erm english? northern? ridiculous? to be made a fuss of. well after 10 minutes or so I felt recomposed and actually did my run.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 22/10/2008 13:29

Hello hat welcome back!. Arf at the description of your fall. Hope you're OK

I haven't had a nosebleed for a week. Looks like the spray might be working and I can get back out there.

Very respectable time mavis!

BlessThisMess · 22/10/2008 13:49

Somebody kick me up the butt. Now I haven't got an event to train for I'm feeling unmotivated. Should go out today.

hatwoman · 22/10/2008 16:32

try goodrunguide.co.uk for motivation - you can keep a log of all your runs, make a plan, see graphs. even without an event the thought of blank weeks on my training log does the trick.(well, kind of, didn;t work all summer)
