Map my Run

What's your aim for 2008?

Mine is to enjoy running for the whole of 10k rather than just the middle 20 minutes - and it would be great to do the distance in under an hour but I'm not overly hopeful in that respect

sfxmum - in answer to running whilst pregnant, I found a post of mine near beginning of this thread which says "I am now 20 weeks pregnant and have recently stopped running". I think I did my last 5k at 18 weeks. It's OK as long as you feel fine and don't get too hot, dehydrated or out of breath. My GP said to stop as soon as I felt the bump sloshing about! I may have carried on past 20 weeks but had back & joint problems.

asicsgirl - mine also May baby.

I have been swimming (with DCs in tow) but have found no time for running. Evenings are out as it is dark by the time the DCs are in bed and where I live, it is very, very dark!

asicsgirl · 09/09/2008 09:35

hi duchess! i remember you from antenatal thread

babydriver, yes i know those 'wonder runs' too. brilliant feeling. can't predict when you'll get one either, i sometimes head out feeling knackererd and think 'won't get far today' and then just hit a groove... nice.

sfx - i didn't run much when pg, i did intend to but it just felt weird tbh. can't really explain it. so like mrsweds i was on the cross trainer and on my bike on the turbo trainer at home.

OrmIrian · 09/09/2008 09:37

Yes I get those days sometimes duchess. When I feel like I am flying not running. Wonderful!

Wallace · 10/09/2008 06:38

just quickly posting so I don't lose thread again

HarrogateMum · 14/09/2008 18:05

hello, can I join in? I did my first proper 10km run today in Wetherby. I was desperate to do it in under 1 hour, but didnt. Time was 1 hour 43 seconds so maybe next time! I have been feeling sick as a dog ever since I got home although had plenty to drink and something to eat. Any tips?

foxinsocks · 14/09/2008 18:09

hello

went for my first run today in yonks. Am horribly unfit and havebeen ill for acouple of weeks.

Just plotted iton mapmyrun to see how far it was and it wasonly about 3.5km (andI walked half of it!) but in a way, I'm pleased. Idid walk runwalk run and whenIfinished, my heart rate was 150 (so I mustbe chronically unfit).

Amnow going ot aim to go twice a week. Hopefully, in around 6 weeks time, I'll be managing 5 kms (this is what normally happens!). Just need to stickatit.

(sorry about words merging together, bloody spacebar dying)

foxinsocks · 14/09/2008 18:11

oh and took about 20-25 mins in all

(am just writing this down so I can look backon it)

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 14/09/2008 18:46

I've only run once again this week (although have been to the gym 3 times, and worked hard)

Harrogatemum - if I feel sick after it is usually because my blood sugar is a bit low. Hope you're feeling OK now. Fab time

HarrogateMum · 14/09/2008 19:05

Hi SMBK - yes feeling a bit better, still a bit funny in my stomach, but about to cook tea so hopefully will be fine after that, and a small glass of vino.........

foxinsocks · 16/09/2008 20:22

How are you all doing?

I feel I must share this website with you. I've had so much fun with it. You can map runs or cycles and see how far they are. Best thing is, you don't have to go over roads. If you put the map settings off street view and into hybrid view, you can see a satellite image and plot routes across fields or parks and towpaths.

map my run

I was aiming to run twice a week and have not gone again but my legs are sore . This may be a sign of my lack of fitness .

HarrogateMum · 19/09/2008 10:04

no-one around? I havent run since my 10km on Sunday and going to my brothers for the w/end so wont get another run in until Sunday night.....I feel sluggish and rubbish for it!

OrmIrian · 19/09/2008 10:08

I love that site fox. It was the first time I actually found out how far I was really running. Really useful.

How sore are the legs? If it's just a general ache I wouldn't worry. Especially if it goes away when you start running. If it's a sharper pain that stays or gets worse I'd leave it for a bit.

babydriver · 20/09/2008 21:29

hi everyone. hope harrogatemum and foxinsocks are feeling better, and hope you're all going to fit in a weekend run. I've got my last long training run tomorrow (45mins) and then one half hour one midweek and the 10K is on Sunday. Thanks to the training plan, I'm confident of making it all the way round now, although it's a bit odd that I haven't actually run the full distance before the day. I'm assuming the adrenaline will push me round the last 15-20 mins.

actually, I've got a few questions about doing one of these runs. The blurb says that there isn't anywhere to leave kit. I don't intend to have much that I can't leave with DH but I'll probably want to keep my sweatshirt on until fairly close to the start as I always feel chilly, but i don't want to have to run round with it wrapped round my middle. Can I just dump it somewhere?? And do they have km markers as you go round? I'd quite like to see how I'm getting on.

HarrogateMum · 21/09/2008 15:10

Hey babydriver - yes feeling much better but must confess still not done a run since my 10k last Sunday and feeling that I should - might go out later today. They do usually have km markers on the way round, they certainly did at the Wetherby one. We left all our stuff in the car and then just had to survive the weather up until the run started but we were lucky that it was quite a sunny day.

sfxmum · 23/09/2008 18:04

hello everyone I need to get back running which I have not done for nearly 7wks
have ordered some winter gear and hopefully will manage to go out on Thursday while dd is at pre school

hope everyone is healthy and going out there

nappyaddict · 26/09/2008 19:34

does anyone run every day?

Wallace · 26/09/2008 21:28

Almost forgot about this thread

Did 10 miles ish last Firday - well on course for my Half Marathon on 19th oct.

nappyaddict - def not everyday - lucky if i get out 3 times a week

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 26/09/2008 21:34

10 miles Wallace!? Bloody hell. Well done.

nappyaddict - I exercise 4/5 days a week usually. At the moment that's 1 or 2 runs and 3 visits to the gym. I don't run at the gym, hate the treadmill, I prefer the rower and cross trainer. I would like to run 3 times and do the gym twice but it's just not convenient at the moment.

OP posts:
asicsgirl · 27/09/2008 13:55

ooh i'm full of the family cold so haven't been out for a week! it's shorts weather here, sigh.

ormirian how are you? saw on another thread you were not too happy, hope this isn't inappropriate to post here. hope you are doing a bit better. how long till the cast comes off?

babydriver well my days of exercising every day are long behind me pre-kids i used to do something most days but not just running - circuits, bike, salsa, aerobics, kung fu etc... happy memories... even if i was a little obsessed i don't generally run on consecutive days if i can help it as i find i get all sorts of joint trouble if i do. prefer to mix it up a bit and i think this is generally the advice people like personal trainers give. less likely to over-stress any particular part of your body if you do different activities. having said that i have a friend who runs almost every day and she's fine...

saggar god i hate rowing machines! is it only me or can everybody only do 5 mins before falling off in a heap?

well done to all the people running their 5/ 10ks, very impressive

sfx what winter gear did you order? i'm as i'm on mat leave and officially not spending any money... walking down high street with my eyes closed to avoid temptation... only bumped into a couple of lampposts so far

foxinsocks · 27/09/2008 20:20

it's great isn't it Ormiran (map my run)! I love it. Have been playing with it lots.

I'm just posting so I don't lose the thread (took me ages to find it!).

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 27/09/2008 21:38

I can do 20

Then I fall off in a heap!

OP posts:
babydriver · 28/09/2008 21:42

Hi folks I made it round! I did my 10K in 1hr 5mins, which was slightly quicker than I was expecting, so I'm really pleased especially as it was quite warm and of course there were a few thousand others!

I'll give myself a quiet week and then need to find some motivation for keeping going through the winter. Hopefully popping in here will help with that.

BlessThisMess · 29/09/2008 09:37

Hi all - just popping in from the latest couch-to-5k thread.

Saggarmakers - are you going to do the Little Hearts 5k 0n 12th October which I/you mentioned in a thread somewhere? If so, it would be nice to say hi.

Just did my end of Week 5 20-min run yesterday and actually did 25 mins (was running with a friend) so am feeling v proud but v stiff today!

maviscrewit · 29/09/2008 14:06

Ooh I've not been on here for ages. Have kept trogging along over the summer and am feeling quite motivated at the moment. I am trying to get out three times a week. One hard run of six miles and one long slow one of about 8 to 10 miles and I've just started to try some hill work in between ie running up a hill for 2 mins and jogging back down and doing it six times. I wear a HR monitor so am getting obsessed with its measurements! I am hoping the hill work will improve my leg strength and tighten up my bottom . I also picked up a trampette from Freecycle and run on that whenever I cannot get out - its good fun! I am hoping to try a 6 mile off road run in mid Oct and it will be hilly but I like a challenge.

babydriver - congrats on your 10k, I did my first race in March and boy is it addictive. I find it hard to fit in as many as I would like. I've done two 6 mile races - my first time was 62 mins (half road, half off road) and my second was 53 (all road). I find racing really gets my competitive streak going. When's your next?

Wallace · 29/09/2008 14:06

Well done babydriver that is fab!
