For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

That's good Zippi

Dd2 and I have been working hard. I was hoping for a restful weekend but it seems it won't be.
There is so much to do here and dd and ds2 have to be taken to various places.

zippitippitoes · 14/12/2007 16:54

well we just had a power vut for an hour during which i discovered no batteries or candles so er havent put roast on..just waiting a few mins to see if everything stays on

zippitippitoes · 14/12/2007 17:08

lolol

the man i have been waiting for all day just turned up to fit the electric meter in the new house

surprise surprise its dark and he has the tiniest torch to work by

i pointed out that i rang them at lunchtime to say if they came in the dark they wouldnt be able to see what they were doing and they said it was impossible to ring the company that fits the meters because they use computers and dont have a call centre

so i said well if they come in the dark they wont bea ble to see and he said well there is nothing we can do about that ypou cant ring us until they dont do it

but you could tell them to come before it gets dark i said

no we cant we cant contact them

so we shall see if he can fit the billion wires into this meter in the dark outside with a pencil torch in one hand

FrayedKnot · 14/12/2007 18:37

zippi how silly, sometimes the world seems to have gone completely stark raving mad. Hope the roast is cooking away nicely now.

Have good today...

Muesli with dried fruit, fruit salad (melon, kiwi, grapes), pea soup for lunch, vegetable curry with kale , cauliflower, carrots, parsnips, potato and butter beans for supper, strawberries.

OK I know strawbs horrendously out of season but DS bribed me

Tomorrow is the big party...I am v.v. excited!

I have bought some glittery purple eyeshadow against my better judgement

FrayedKnot · 14/12/2007 18:39

been

BBBee · 14/12/2007 20:08

hello

is it just me or is everyone eating A LOT of satsumas to get to even some acceptable level of FV intake?

FrayedKnot · 14/12/2007 20:09

Hello BBBee

I try not to in case they make my migraines worse but I make up with shedloads of kale.

TBH the satsumas would be preferable.

BBBee · 14/12/2007 20:17

oh god I find kale really hard to do!

migraines are awful - I had them when I was on the pill and I now completely understand the sheer incapacity they cause (and also the inward recoil when you bump into someone who says they have a migraine and you have to smile and not shout "why the fuck aren't you lying in a drak room feeling like you are going to die")

Bocohohoho · 14/12/2007 20:56

Hello Bee, how are things? Calming down at all? F&V intake abysmal again. Toddler party with huge amounts of crummy stuff at lunch time, then emergency tea of beans.

TooTickyDoves · 14/12/2007 20:59

Never been quite sure what makes a migraine a migraine. I know when I have a headache I have to be v. careful and go to bed asap or I start feeling sick and horrid. Is that a migraine or am I all wrong?

We have had a beautiful veg stew with dumplings. It contained leeks, celeriac, swede, potatoes, greens and lentils.

FrayedKnot · 14/12/2007 21:11

TooT I think nausea / vomiting and / or photophobia (is that the right word? Not being able to cope with light) are usually two of the things that identify migraine. Also that they are one-sided.

I used to have them extremely badly and have to lie down in a dark room and was usually sick at least once.

Now they are not nearly so bad but I still feel sick and find bright lights difficult (PC is bad ).

I also get a kind of cotton wool head for hours or even days afterwards and recently had a dizzy spell for a couple of days beforehand.

TooTickyDoves · 14/12/2007 21:28

Sounds bad!

FrayedKnot · 14/12/2007 21:32

Yes. I need to do something about it. Since my periods suddenly got regular, I now have them once a month, which is a struggle.

I have had acupuncture in the past which helped a lot with hormonal things, and am quite inclined to try again in the New Year.

TooTickyDoves · 14/12/2007 21:34

Do you do homeopathy?

BBBee · 14/12/2007 22:24

oh hello again - got all way laid by all that other stuff that goes on and takes much longer than you think.

Hi Boco

Sorry I've been crap lately. I have broken up now until the 9th jan - last few weeks were hellish - including 'feedback' about how we were all coping - which was basically a few tutors sitting you down and telling you to get a grip!

I have to go back in jan with 8,000 words - can't think that will be a problem - I write more than that on here most nights.

tell me about you christmas decorations.

Tomorrow we are making a very 10/10 orange studded with cloves - well not very 10/10 as there is no intention of eating it but it is more 10/10 than a cadburys selection box mores the shame

TooTickyDoves · 14/12/2007 22:34

I made a clove-studded orange once. I was under the impression that it had to be covered - not a scrap of orange showing. It took ages.

BBBee · 14/12/2007 22:44

I am seeing a lot of extended family before christmas this year. i htought it might be fun to do witht he children adn give them to everyone for a festive smelling house.

i think it might be one of those things with is a good idea in my head and in practice so worng.

like monopoly this evening with two tired children.

not good.

TooTickyDoves · 14/12/2007 22:48

Monopoly can only be played with one child at a time, and then it must be a fresh, alert and cheerful child.
We had a memorable game once - dd1 and ds1 got bored but didn't want to end the game - it occurred to me after a while sitting there by myself, having their turns for them as instructed that there was something Very Wrong. So I said, "Right, I'm packing up now." They didn't even care - they had completely lost interest

pinkspottywellies · 14/12/2007 23:46

Hello! Did you miss me?! I've not posted for so long that I had nothing in 'threads I'm on' and I had to come and find you in the topic list!

I went shopping today thinking I only really needed beer for dh's friends coming over and ending up spending £70 and I still don't really know what on. Have tried to make Christmas less expensive than usual this year!

OverRated · 15/12/2007 00:21

What on earth have I missed in neighbours? Hope your family meeting went well Zippi - what did you decide?

BBeee, can't imagine monopoly with kids at the best of times, let alone tired ones. You must be very brave!

Took DS to see Santa today which was fab. When I asked him about it later, all he would say is "I saw smissmas"

10/10 really awful again. But I do have a clove studded satsuma. Surely that counts?!

Quattrocento · 15/12/2007 00:27

Oh FFS

Have you lot not got bored of this yet?

I meantersay this thang that's got you all so hot

"5 onion rings, 4 cauliflowers, 3 french beans, 2 turnip tops and a parsnip in a pear tree"

Don't mean shit when compared to a nice bit of steak. Rare.

Maybe with some fries on the side?

We could go to a really posh restaurant if you like?

OverRated · 15/12/2007 02:08
Hmm
BBBee · 15/12/2007 09:14

morning!

hello psw how are you? did you ever post a pic of the wellies?

today we are getting our tree (much to dp's bah humbug attitude) and doing tidying and I have to make something for a family festive thing tomorrow. Might do a chocolate chestnut torte thing in hugh fernally fuckfaces book. Not very 10/10 - well nuts, maybe?

BBBee · 15/12/2007 09:16

and can i just add OMFG do you remember that chocolate coconut cake thing on the meet up.

that was oh so good.

anyhway. FV - oh yes. I need to talk about that more. I have been told by someone else (apart from you lot) that I drink too much coffee adn am a bit obsessional about it. I might give up in the new year. Will be good for my anxiety.

zippitippitoes · 15/12/2007 09:34
