For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Ahundred, as One Who Knows, really don't get an allotment unless you know you have time to do it. Otherwise it just becomes another burden. And the grumpy old men will bitch about your weediness (in both sense of the word)
And you have to do grim things like spread manure on it every now and again. Which I have spent the past 3 saturdays doing .

Littlerach - that's good! And tomorrow, have some fruit for breakfast and some fruit for pudding and that will help towards your goal. For example, today I had veg chili for lunch (which has to count for at least 4, what with all the tomato, mushrooms, peppers, squash, onion, kidney and blackeyed beans) followed by satsuma and grapes. Supper is coq au vin with (onions, mushrooms and chestnuts) served with brocolli and peas. A glass of oragnge juice takes me up to 9. A pomegranite for pud = 10. Then I can eat parkin and drink wine with impunity

I feel A Presence. Bbbeeee? Where are youuuu? Is there anybody there? Knock once for yes, and twice for no...

fullmoonfiend · 05/11/2007 18:15

(do I get cake for being encouraging??)

FrannyandZooey · 05/11/2007 18:37

by the time I get to the end of the thread I forget what I want to say to everyone

yesterday I forgot where i had hidden the fireworks and ds and dp were not impressed. I was sent upstairs to see if I might have put them in my wardrobe and they were VERY unimpressed when I came down 5 minutes later having had a nice wee and brushed my hair, but completely forgetting what I had gone up for in the first place

oh yes! Avi my boots are brown and my coat is black and a very old one of dp's which got too scruffy for him to bear wearing

LL I think you are all very lovely for caring so much about your children's happiness that you will even worship at the shrine of Mickey. I will stand with Avi in the Selfish Corner except the phrase that sprang to MY mind was "gouge my eyes out with hot skewers"

Littlerach stop moaning and eat yer greens (I reserve my boot camp voice just for littlerach had you noticed?)

we are also going to watch the film of this Please don' tell me till afterwards if you have seen it and it is crap. I can't find any decent films at our library any more since they changed over to DVD. they used to have 100s of videos, now a few scores of DVDs and half of them are copies of TV series [outrage]

we liked the book a lot so am hopeful. I think Mr Spacey is in it so cannot be all bad, can it

TigerFeet · 05/11/2007 19:13

MMMmmmm cloud fluff sounds lush

we are having pasta in tomatoey sauce with diced chorizo. I have been shopping and come home with 35,289 satsumas (they are really really tasty atm), melon, grapes etc etc. I wanted blueberries but they were £3 for a slight handful

lullabyloo · 05/11/2007 19:14

i havn't even bathed ds yet...let alone read/sang/milk etc.........oh for dh to do it for once....>

TigerFeet · 05/11/2007 19:15

Hurry up Franny's dp YOUR PREGNANT DP IS WASTING AWAY [stern]

lullabyloo · 05/11/2007 19:16

I know....strawberries,raspberries,blackberries,blueberries are outrageously expensive now.....for a measly few....but winter fruit is soooooooooooo boring
apart from pomegranites,satsumas,figs that is

lullabyloo · 05/11/2007 19:18

ds persuaded me to buy the new Puff the Magic Dragon book....i am dreading reading it....I'll probably cry.

TigerFeet · 05/11/2007 19:20

I must buy me a pomegranite, haven't had one for years. I have fond memories of eating the seeds with a pin as a child and my brothers and I surrepticiously trying to stab each other behind my Mum's back

DH has just but a DVD on for dd because she was throwing a paddy and he wanted her to stop. He gives in every time. I think it may well be time to Have Words

fullmoonfiend · 05/11/2007 19:31

no, sorry, the only way to eat a pomegranite is to cut it into quarters, then break huge chunks of seeds off into your mouth while juice dribbles everywhere. Alternatively, you could break all the seeds into a bowl and scoop them into your mouth with a large spoon! I cannot bear it that people don't eat pomegranites because they are 'fiddly'!
They are stupendous, and gorgeous and my most favourite fruit in the world.

(except maybe cherries, watermelon and raspberries.)

FrannyandZooey · 05/11/2007 19:39

I am fancying blueberries as well but too too expensive

dp is here now and dinner almost ready. Sorry to moan about it taking a long time LL, I know I am lucky that dp does the bedtime thing. We don't do baths in the evening, which also helps

my word the fireworks are really QUITE LOUD. we are 3 mins from the park where the display is held

OP posts:
FrayedKnot · 05/11/2007 19:39

I bought some pomegranates today. Last time I had them was when we were on holiday in Crete years ago and there was a pomegranate tree on our terrace and we could help oursleves

Oh to be sitting on a balmy terrace eating pomegranates and watching the sun set right now

As it is I am sitting with a blanket wrapped round my knees and my trusty padded gilet on as I am NOT turning the heating up.

Happy Anniversary to Franny, Mr Franny, tatties & Mr tatties.

LOL at you Franny not being able to wait until after stories to eat supper. I always eat with DS at about 5.45 and when I have to go out to eat or am staying with friends or something I have to eat a hefty snack at about 5 or else I am chewing the furniture by 6.30.

Hope you both have lovely evenings

I've had a satsuma (agree they are delicious just now), an apple, veg & lentil soup, pasta with veg & tomato sauce.

I've also just eaten a chocolate brownie so now don;t fancy any fruit

PMT is upon me

FrayedKnot · 05/11/2007 19:44

We do half and half - DH does bath and I do stories, usually. When DH goes away I miss him most round about bathtime

£3.03 for a punnet of strawberries today at the greengrocer DS was pestering for them but I put them back, and bribed him with the pomegranates instead.

FrannyandZooey · 05/11/2007 19:45

oh still no heating on here Halo

we got a £200 rebate the other week
