For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I should be doing something about dinner but my head is hurting too much.

FrannyandZooey · 10/11/2007 16:33

I do dislike hazelnuts. They are almost as nasty as walnuts.

I can eat my nice nut roast because I put nice flavours in it, but I don't see why I should unless there is something that is in them that is not in seeds

TooTicky · 10/11/2007 16:34

And brazils are lovely. I had some Amazon Flame ones that were quite divine.

And almonds...mmmmm.

TooTicky · 10/11/2007 16:36

Nasty? Nasty? Walnuts can be a wee bit bitter sometimes, but hazelnuts aren't. And they are lovely with apples and raisins.

TooTicky · 10/11/2007 16:37

Brazil nut have selenium I think. And various nuts have zinc, I think. Almonds for calcium.

TooTicky · 10/11/2007 16:38

Oh, and vitamin E.

FrannyandZooey · 10/11/2007 16:39

Brazils are horrid. I refuse to contemplate them.

So do seeds not have all those in? I bet they do.

Rhubarb · 10/11/2007 16:44

Since red wine is made from grapes I think that counts as one portion of fruit.

I may have 6 portions of fruit in one sitting tonight!

fakeblonde · 10/11/2007 16:58

TooTicky · 10/11/2007 16:59

Rhubarb

Franny, it would appear that nuts have more minerals than seeds.

TooTicky · 10/11/2007 17:01

Welcome fakeblonde
What have you eaten today?

fullmoonfiend · 10/11/2007 17:26

Hi fakeblonde, and welcome. Hello everyone else too

I do have to stress fakeblonde, we're not a weight loss thread but it's a great place for support on healthy living generally. Very well done on stopping smoking. (I lapsed recently after 10 no smoking months [hangs head in abject shame]

Dh and I have moved mountaisn today.
(Mountains of crap. Damn you ahundred and your life lists....)
We decided we wanted a 'normal' bedroom instead of a dumping ground which just happens to have our bed in IYKWIM..
So my room is now frgrant and fairylightlit and we hve a new nice pooter table and we have got rid of 4 bags to a charity shop and some bags of rubbish.
The poor children have been ferally foraging for themselves and it got to the point when we were saying ''yes'' to anything, just to keep them quiet, so there is a mini mountain of empty crisp packets, youghurt cartons and apple cores in the front room.

FrannyandZooey · 10/11/2007 18:05

TooT says who? the nut marketing board?

Fakeblonde hello do join us, I will second what FMF said about this not being a weight loss thread but you may well find you lose weight eating this way. Oh and exercising of course. Personally my advice would be do not give yourself a hard time and be thinking about losing weight so soon after giving up smoking - you may well feel hungrier and more stressed than usual anyway, and the advantage to your health of giving up smoking is so huge, that I don't think you should do anything that will make it harder for you to maintain it. Just eat nice healthy food when you want it and see what happens to your weight. If you eat lots of fruit and veg your skin will be all glowing and you will look healthy and happy in your party dresses, even if they are a larger size than last year's.

FMF that sounds wonderful. It is so nice to have a peaceful and tidy bedroom - it is the one room I will not tolerate any clutter in myself. It feels so good to have cleared out a room doesn't it?

Oh have been to the gym. I pleaded exhaustion and just got some advice about my programme. I will try to go in the week. (when? when?)

ahundredtimes · 10/11/2007 18:08

Welcome fakeblonde. I'm not officially here but was just passing and saw TooT's shoe problem. I have foraged in the cellar, the smallest I've got is a 7F. Nice pair of pink suede boots, not warn much, do you want? It's a bit pointless isn't it, unless she's grown and has big socks? Let me know.

Next child is here now, for the night, ds2's mate. I said all cheerily 'I know. Shall we have fish and chips tonight? As a treat' and my dcs said 'YES!' and his friend said, 'I don't really like fish and chips.'

ahundredtimes · 10/11/2007 18:10

Not WORN much fgs. They have been repeatedly warned though, against excessive sillyness and annoying pinkness.

FrannyandZooey · 10/11/2007 18:12

TooT I would absolutely take those shoes back. You could have them under the something or other Act that items must be fit for purpose. Shoes that fall apart after 2 months are NOT fit for purpose.

gizmo · 10/11/2007 18:36

Hello Fakeblonde

Just wandering by and saw Fanny's comment about going to the gym. What did they say Franny? I trust they're not trying to persuade you to take up anything new?

FrannyandZooey · 10/11/2007 18:39

oh no it was marvellous they said I must absolutely stop doing anything that was a tiny bit strenous well that was what it sounded like to me anyway

erm i was meant to go and tell someone this, on a thread somewhere. Nobody happens to know where do they?

OP posts:
gizmo · 10/11/2007 18:44

Sorry Franny, I don't - I'd just blame pregheadedness.

Good. About the gym I mean. I've come across one or two gym guys who seem to think that 'pregnancy is not an illness'= 'ideal opportunity to double your training, what with your maternity leave and all'.

MrsCarrot · 10/11/2007 18:45

oh, it's all goin wrong, I'm not ready, my earring won't o through and I never normally wear them which is probably why

aaarrh...

can I mix the drinks now, will they go wrong? I don't do cocktails normally

my mother is bein an arse

I bought a black dress to wear over jeans

but there were bits showing on dresss that shouldn't be there

breathe

I need a drink

some of the glasses are thick with salt and on some it wouldn't stick.

I must go and get ready, dh will kill me if he sees me on this

FrannyandZooey · 10/11/2007 18:48

I found the thread and did it

oh no he just said cool everything down, eg work at about level 5 or 6 or perceived level of exertion, rather than 8 or 9 (HAH! HAH! Like I have ever worked at level 8 or 9 in my LIFE). Lighter weights as pg progresses, with more reps. No crunches and NO plank (oh the misery). but also no thigh machines, waah, one of the few things I find easy and am impressive at

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 10/11/2007 18:49

MrsC oh dear oh dear

I am sure it will all be fine and lovely. The dress sounds very cool and slinky and I am sure the bits that shouldn't be showing look very nice also

have fun

DRINK WATER IN BETWEEN COCKTAILS

BBBee · 10/11/2007 18:53

hello

Margaritas: juice 1 lime, 2parts tequila, one part contrieu, ice, shake, drink on salted glasses.

BBBee · 10/11/2007 18:55

MrsC use the lime you have squeezed to wet the glasses and make the salt stick.
