For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

LL Crikes, DS has the cough too

Last year his nursery suggested it might be asthma it went on so long, but the Dr dismissed it. Asthma does run in the family, but I think it was just a cough

I made something that was edible tonight! We had carrot and potato pancakes (like rosti) with sausages. cabbage on the side.

Think I have ahd 9 today so far.

Lullabyloo · 20/10/2007 18:55

FK...my dr said exactly the same thing & even suggested & inhaler....no family history at all

it finally disappeared after a week of sun & sea air

FrannyandZooey · 20/10/2007 19:00

LL I sent to the other email address as you suggested

I have had stir fry made with chard, mushrooms, peppers, carrots, onions and tofu.

We went to our local woods and did apple tasting - bloody lovely - and volunteered in the vegetable garden - ds harvested a huge head of celery of which we were allowed to keep half. Haven't tried it yet.

I got diagnosed with asthma last year after a persistent chest problem, and was convinced I did have it (runs in family)

except the inhaler never relieved my symptoms at all and the chest problem disappeared from February to Oct.

MrsCarrot · 20/10/2007 20:14

Franny - I transferred the money this morning, sorry, I wrote quite a long e-mail that I then deleted by mistake. I kept going to do it and couldn't find the new card reader thing you need for online banking. Have you been sent one of these? They look like a calculator. Sorry again for delay.

Lullabyloo · 20/10/2007 20:22

have replied franny...feel bad getting msge so late
i didn't use the inhaler for ds...wasn't convinced at all

there are fireworks galore going off here

ds & i went into a new little organic cafe this afternoon on our way home...the owners are young & smiley, lovely New Zealanders & the guy has the same name as ds
They are so lovely to ds & gave him a piece of orange cake to try....'yum ' says ds...'this is nice, but mama made butternut muffins & they were delicious'

lots of recipe sharing then & wonderings as to whether i would like to bake for them
oh that i had a reasonable kitchen & not a ridiculous matchbox
i'd have avocado smoothies on the menu in no time

Lullabyloo · 20/10/2007 20:23

nice hair zippi

TooTicky · 20/10/2007 20:28

I have dug extensively and planted onions, garlic, turnips and corn salad. I almost have blisters on my hands.
Agreed to take dcs to park after dd1 and ds1 had done a certain amount of room tidying. Several tantrums later.....
we set off late and walked home in the dark, howling at each other and talking about various were creatures and then SOMETHING HOWLED BACK from across the fields. Not quite dog, and we weren't quite sure about owls. Ds1 was rather touchingly frightened.
Then we had a nice hearty meal which I named Chinese Stew with rice and fried tofu.

TooTicky · 20/10/2007 20:31

Inhalers are dreadful LL. They are only temporary relief and I think the symptoms come back worse. And ventolin used to do dreadful things to my heart.

TooTicky · 20/10/2007 20:32

PSW, what in the world is feijoada?

Lullabyloo · 20/10/2007 20:39

hmmmmm...well i've only taken ds to the drs three times in three yrs....i have to be very worried to go...usually i self treat or see our homoeopath
He has never had medicine as such so was loathe to try the inhaler

Lullabyloo · 20/10/2007 20:40

i think it's a type of meat stew Toot

Lullabyloo · 20/10/2007 20:41

TooT I love your walk in the dark story!

Franny your apple tasting sounds nice. Funny I was listening to a piece on the radio about apples today.

Lully it's great when you discover a new place isn't it. We just discovered today that a lovely deli cafe we (used to) go to has closed down It's such a shame when somewhere decent, with good food and friendly staff, has to shut because there isn't enough demand. The very average cafe down the street is heaving

Zippi and Boco you both have lovely hair Boco I have always imagined you with dark hair.

It was lovely and sunny today, hope Liohneart is having a good time.

Avi......you have a man that cooks?>

FrayedKnot · 20/10/2007 20:50

Pink I looked at your Fejiwhatsit thread!

It sounds a bit like a Brazilian cassoulet or have I got that completely wrong?

I would love to have an organic cafe with people like LL baking for me, but I am doubtful as to the market for it round here

IdrisTheDragon · 20/10/2007 21:07

I have a man who cooks too .

FrannyandZooey · 20/10/2007 21:10

LOL at 126 points. Oh god that reminds me. My guilty S^%&*£e conscience In my defence AGAIN I have not had a great week. I ended up having hour long crying session this morning and just about got it together to get to work. You know when you are not sure if you are going to be able to pull it together or have to phone and make embarrassing excuse. I was worried about looking tear stained but on checking mirror on way I was annoyed to notice I usually look only slightly better. Anyway have realised I am a bit overloaded. Not really doing exceptionally much but this thing with my mother knocked me sideways and I have been working most days at the weekends lately, so not had much of a rest. I know most parents don't get much rest at the weekends - just that I normally do so I suppose have come to rely on it.

Zippi lovely hair, very bouncy. It will be lovely to meet you as I feel I know exactly what you will look and sound like. Oh blimey some of you will have accents won't you? Oh my. That will be odd. You don't have accents on here. I don't think you need to tell me any more do you zippi? You said the money was coming in, that's right isn't it? I'll tell you when it turns up.

We have superb local cafe attached to art gallery about 5 mins from my house. Fab home cooked food, beautiful safe garden with exciting bushes and hideyholes for children to explore, staff all know ds by name, fantastic art projects for all to join in with. I have been going for about 15 years with various children. It is closing in December. God I am quite frightened of how I am going to miss it.
