Have just been for mine

not the funnest way to spend 10 minutes, but hey! don;t need another one for 3 years...

also, here's a tip if the nurse has trouble finding your cervix, mine seemed to have wandered off, lie on your left side..

was over and done with very quickly and with complete and utter sensitivity and discretion.

i know it is a bit yuck, but it is important, and you can always take a friend with for moral support.

so, if you have been meaning to book in for yours, get it booked !

and honestly, if I wasn't such a big scaredy cat of the dr's surgery, I would be there in a shot having mine done.

Nothing to worry about

BoysAreLikeZombies · 14/10/2008 19:39

Mummy plonk - great, thank you for sharing

DH you go girl.

Betterhalf, speak to the practice nurse - they should know what the best time for your smear is.

Kaled - in the unlikely event that they found something concerning, a faster response will mean treatment starts sooner. I think that 4 to 6 weeks is standard in a normal result.

NBG not daft at all, bless you.

betterhalf · 15/10/2008 11:11

I will go and do that, thanks. Been feeling very guilty about not going.

MorticiaAnnSpookington · 15/10/2008 13:33

well done betterhalf !
Nbg - would a friend coming with you into the surgery (not necessarily into the room) help ?

Nbg · 15/10/2008 16:24

Yes I think I would get my mum to come with me and hold my hand.

I know I'll just have a meltdown as soon as I get to the door.

MorticiaAnnSpookington · 15/10/2008 16:42

poor you - has it always been like that for you ?

Spillage21 · 15/10/2008 17:03

Get the practice nurse (if your surgery has them) to do it...they do loads of them and are v experienced.

DesperateHousewifeToo · 15/10/2008 20:28

Ooh, I forgot to phone today.

Will try to do it tomorrow.

MorticiaAnnSpookington · 16/10/2008 14:56

SS- nope
nerner I don't have to have one am pg too!
Apparently og changes your cervix so tests aren't valid. It can take a while after pg to go back to normal too, so you can put it off legitimately for a while!

MorticiaAnnSpookington · 16/10/2008 16:22

congratulations StrawberrySam and EachPeach

DesperateHousewifeToo · 16/10/2008 20:10

{whispers - No morticia, I was really busy! Will do tomorrow. Promise}

MorticiaAnnSpookington · 16/10/2008 21:48

...we'll be checking !

witcheseve · 16/10/2008 21:50

I went the other day after putting it off. Nothing to it.

Nbg · 17/10/2008 11:05

MAS, How long after a baby are you supposed to wait?

Ds2 is 10 months but I fell pg with him when ds1 was only 5 months.

DesperateHousewifeToo · 17/10/2008 11:08

I did try this morning. Honest

The nurse is fully booked for flu jabs for next 3 weeks so will try again in a few weeks (need to see when is 'right' time).

Was all geared up too

MorticiaAnnSpookington · 17/10/2008 14:38

god for you for trying to book it Desperate
Nbg, am not altogether sure - when I had ds my doctor indicated that he could do it at the 6 week check, but I'd only had one a year before - I would think about then in that case,as long as you aren't bleeding still, but someone else might have more up to date advice (this was 11 yrs ago !)

Dttoydto · 17/10/2008 14:44

22 years and counting...

BoysAreLikeZombies · 21/10/2008 23:03

Go on, make that call in the morning

unknownrebelbang · 05/11/2008 00:22

Still awaiting my results

BoysAreLikeDawgs · 07/11/2008 08:26

How long URB?

[holds hand]

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/11/2008 12:13

me too..holding URB's hand..I mean..think I waited about 2 months for result of last smear..it's down this thread somewhere !

StinkyBumBum · 07/11/2008 14:50

Had mine done a few months back, I won't go into detail, but it was not pleasant and I was in pain for a few days. Sorry. But it won't put me off going, it is very important.
