Have just been for mine

not the funnest way to spend 10 minutes, but hey! don;t need another one for 3 years...

also, here's a tip if the nurse has trouble finding your cervix, mine seemed to have wandered off, lie on your left side..

was over and done with very quickly and with complete and utter sensitivity and discretion.

i know it is a bit yuck, but it is important, and you can always take a friend with for moral support.

so, if you have been meaning to book in for yours, get it booked !

I was, but went a few weeks ago and got the results through (all ok) a week ago.
I was suprised that it was all disposable equipment now - maybe easier and cheaper, but not very enviromentally friendly.

MaryAnnSingletomb · 15/10/2007 17:20

well done lulumama - it'll be coming up for 3 yrs since mine -I hate it but eventually get there.

Shannaratiger · 15/10/2007 17:21

Ooops completely forgot to book mine, thanks.

Lulumama · 15/10/2007 17:21

what's a LEEP ?

hope all is ok for you Lorayn

OP posts:
MaryAnnSingletomb · 15/10/2007 17:21

you can also have a smaller speculum too -which is less alarming !

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 15/10/2007 17:23

A LEEP is where they use a really hot wire type thingy to slice off part of your cervix. I ahd CIN III cells (the worst ones apparently) so they removed some and then sent it off for testing.
Sometimes the LEEP can remove all cells and they will be fine thereafter, sometimes not.

Lulumama · 15/10/2007 17:29

thanks lorayn, i do hope you get the all clear

another vote here for plastic speculums

and I am an avid recycler

but when it comes to having half a car inserted into your front bottom and then jacked up, I go with throwaway comfort anyday

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 15/10/2007 17:48

Oh my goodness, that really is dreadful.

Methinks we have one for the MN campaigners to get working on!!

And thanks Lulumama, hopefully all will be fine, if it is then all I should have to worry about is maybe giving birth a few weeks earlier, apaprently a LEEP can bring on slightly prem labour.

chipmonkeyPumpkinNorks · 15/10/2007 18:25

Kerry, I didn't know that!

Lulumama · 15/10/2007 18:28

fingers crossed for you lorayn

In France smears are once a year, as well.

There are people who go from all clear to CIN III in three years (smoking, age, etc all factors contributing).

I also had CIN III and LEEP four years ago. Then had DD and all smears have been clear since. Now I am back on yearly smears. Never would postpone it for three years.

Had mine done last week. GP used metal torture instrument, but was kind enough to run it under warm water first, so it wasn't icy cold.

Get it done ladies!!!
