Have just been for mine

not the funnest way to spend 10 minutes, but hey! don;t need another one for 3 years...

also, here's a tip if the nurse has trouble finding your cervix, mine seemed to have wandered off, lie on your left side..

was over and done with very quickly and with complete and utter sensitivity and discretion.

i know it is a bit yuck, but it is important, and you can always take a friend with for moral support.

so, if you have been meaning to book in for yours, get it booked !

Tis not til the 2nd september. I was wandering if anyone has asked to be tested for chlamydia at the sam time? I know that is very nosey its just something that has been at the back of my mind-the fact that it is so common and has been very publicised.
I've been with dp for over 6 years (both faithful) but before him at uni I suppose I could have been at risk-as was careful but when drunk was I careful enough iyswim? do you think it would be worth asking and putting my mind at rest-or will they look at me strangely? Can you ask?

God i sound awful don't I. I really wasn't bad-just paranoid i suppose

BoysAreLikeDogs · 22/08/2008 16:21

Well done Sammysam

Olivio, how was it ?

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/08/2008 16:23

yes, olivo, how did you get on /

olivo · 22/08/2008 19:48

well, i'm still in one piece
It took her 4 goes to 'find' my cervix but was painless and my dr is lovely. thank you all for your virtual hand-holding.

sammy - i had a test for chlamidia a good few years ago during one of my smears as i'd had spotting; fortunately, it was clear and it was just put down to my pills. just ask when you're there.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 22/08/2008 19:57

Well done, Olivio, well proud of you

PillockOfTheCommunity · 22/08/2008 20:00

I'm now putting it off, don't mind having them done, have had 2 already (and I'm only 26 ) just hate the logistical nightmare that is time off work/childcare if outside my work hours.

Will you lot now keep nagging me until I do it?

BoysAreLikeDogs · 22/08/2008 20:07

Ring and make the appointment on Monday Morning, Pillock.

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/08/2008 20:26

PillockOfTheCommunity · 22/08/2008 20:33

BoysAreLikeDogs · 22/08/2008 20:34

puzzle · 27/08/2008 17:29

I'm in need of hugs!!!
Haven't been on mumsnet since I was pregnant (DS now 18m)but have been forced to take it easy at home after having a surprise LOOP (or LETZ!?) biopsy yesterday and signed off work for rest of week.

My smear found severe to moderate cell changes so after a colposcopy dr advised imediate procedure to remove these cells as they were quite extensive.

I am soo shitting myself with worry. This was my first smear (I am 25!). And I have been experiencing unusual bleeding (after sex, between periods) and erratic periods ever since they started again in April. Dr said she can fasttrack my biopsy result and I should get the results in 4 weeks.

I will have gone out of mind with worry by then!! I am seriously scared that I am about to die! I'm going to start smoking and drinking because I don't know what else to do with myself.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 27/08/2008 17:33

Puzzle we are here to hold your hand sweetheart.

[squeezes puzzle's arm]

Guadalupe · 27/08/2008 17:40

It is really worrying waiting for those results isn't it, Puzzle, it seems like the time drags on. Try and remember that while it is quite common to have abnormal cells removed with a loop it is very rare for it to turn out to be actual invasive cancer. The treatment is usally the end of the problem. That's why it's so important to have it done. Try to put it out of your mind. Easier said than done I know.

puzzle · 27/08/2008 18:59

Thank you.

I am just working my way through my red wine collection and looking at stuff on the net and just getting soo scared.

RipMacWinkle · 29/08/2008 12:35

Hi - just popping back to say thank you. Had my smear on Monday. I know that if it wasn't for this thread then I'd still be putting it off. Just waiting for results now but keeping my fingers crossed that all is well.

Fingers crossed for you puzzle - hope they get the results back quicker than 4 weeks and you get the all clear.

LaVieEnRose · 29/08/2008 12:47

Hi just had a smear and been told that I have abnormal cells and to go back in 6 months for another one to see if they have returned to normal.

anyone else had this experience? I'm quite worried as i've always had normal results before. The only difference this time is that it's the 1 st smear i've had since ds was born. could this be the reason for the change?

Sorry, haven't had time to read rest of thread!

BoysAreLikeDogs · 29/08/2008 12:49

Well done rip

rose, yes I have heard of this, whereby the changes are v small, just be absolutley sure that you do not forget to go back.

Puzzle, I shall start a support thread for you, seperate from this one

Guadalupe · 29/08/2008 14:02

yes, there are lots of reasons why cells can look different at certain times. I had one where they had returned to normal six months later.

LaVieEnRose · 29/08/2008 22:21

Phew, Thankyou!

BoysAreLikeDogs · 12/09/2008 22:47

Ready to hold hands ?

We are here, make that call on Monday morning.

[encouraging smile]

olivo · 13/09/2008 12:43

I got my results today ( only 3 weeks, i am really impressed!) - all normal. I am so relieveed. thank you for your handholding everyone here.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 13/09/2008 12:44

That's great O

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/09/2008 08:45

hooray ! great news o

magnolia74 · 14/09/2008 12:55

Just want to encourage everyone, I have put it off for the past 5 years and have had an abnormal result back. Becuase I had this a few years ago I now need to go to the coloscopy clinic
Probably going to be fine but am beginning to regret not pushing myself to go earlier.
SO IF YOU HAVEN'T BOOKED IT THEN DO IT ASAP!!!

Goober · 14/09/2008 13:10

Mine is next Monday.
I want to cancel it.
BUT I WON'T!
