Have just been for mine

not the funnest way to spend 10 minutes, but hey! don;t need another one for 3 years...

also, here's a tip if the nurse has trouble finding your cervix, mine seemed to have wandered off, lie on your left side..

was over and done with very quickly and with complete and utter sensitivity and discretion.

i know it is a bit yuck, but it is important, and you can always take a friend with for moral support.

so, if you have been meaning to book in for yours, get it booked !

I have cancelled about 10 in the last year

unknownrebelbang · 14/09/2008 15:45

Am awaiting the results.

First test in 10 years I think.

I know, I know. Prior to that I went regularly, but erm let things slide.

BoysAreLikeDogskvy · 17/09/2008 23:04

Go on, make that appointment, magnolia

We can hold your hand.

Goober, good girl

Unknown, have you had results yet?

Well done for going

[manly punch to arm]

Goober · 22/09/2008 11:23

I went this morning.
It was as I remembered it.
Not painfull, just such an invasion.
She did say however that my cervix is off to the side.
It is done.
Apparently the results will come in 2 weeks.

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/09/2008 12:20

Goober - well done

Mother3 - Thank you for sharing. Have you been back to have the smear redone?

madmummy4 · 22/09/2008 18:20

I am getting calle din every 6 months, sure thats not right?I did have treatmetn once but that was 7 years ago, then I fell pregnant so nexy smear was overdue. When I had that one it was borderline but they have all been clear since then.I went in the spring but have just had another letter saying I am due my smear?

BoysAreLikeDogs · 22/09/2008 18:25

After my loop diathermy treatment I was on 6 monthly smears for I think 3 years.

Ask at your next test, the reason for the 6 monthly checks will be in your notes.

MurderousCherryChapstick · 09/10/2008 12:32

(Goober here)
Had the all clear yesterday.

AussieLou · 09/10/2008 12:42

Ooh can I join. My appointment was about 5 years ago. I know I know I am bad.
While I am here...there is a test called the 'thin prep' test that is a extra special type of test available in Oz for a few extra dollars. Is there anything like that available here?

MurderousCherryChapstick · 09/10/2008 14:11

I've never heard of that.

Make your appointment or I'll set Psycho on ya!!!

FourArms · 09/10/2008 14:27

Went on Tuesday Best one yet. The nurse had a metal speculum (the thing they dilate the cervix with) which was so much better. When they use a plastic one, I tense up so much they crack! No such problems this time (although there might not have been anyway since I've squeezed out DS2 by that route since my last smear ) Ask them to warm it up a bit with warm water though, or you might get a shock!!!

MorticiaAnnSpookington · 09/10/2008 15:43

at thought of FourArms cracking a speculum !!
Never heard of that test either AussieLou...
and well done goober

BoysAreLikeZombies · 14/10/2008 18:56

Any one need hand holding?

Nbg · 14/10/2008 19:02

I got a reminder a couple of weeks ago.
Had my last one in 2004 but I was pg last year and the year before that

I dont want to go though because I have a huge phobia of going to the dr's.
I must go and get it done though.

BoysAreLikeZombies · 14/10/2008 19:07

Make that appointment in the morning, truly the thought of having it done is many times worse than the actual procedure. It's ok to feel anxious.

mummyplonk · 14/10/2008 19:07

Went this morning, after 6 yrs of harrassment, was terrified, sweating and shaking. I can honestly say it was not bad at all and I dont know why I got myself so worked up, was fast and pretty much painless.

So lots of cyber hugs & strength from me ladies if I can do it you can.

DesperateHousewifeToo · 14/10/2008 19:12

I was in need of anti-biotics a few weeks ago so spoke to my gp over the phone.

He managed to make me feel very guilty that I was over-due for my smear.

I promised to make an appointment but still haven't.

Was waiting for dd to start nursery in September so I didn't have to put up with all the questions from her . And I find it a pain having to get it at the right time of my cycle (that's my excuse!)

Will phone tomorrow....

betterhalf · 14/10/2008 19:17

I am overdue for my smear test. Don't quite know what to do though as I am on the contraceptive implant which makes me have light bleeding which sometimes lasts for a few days sometimes for a few weeks and I have no idea where I am in my 'cycle' as I'm not really having one. Any advice as to when I should book in?

kaled · 14/10/2008 19:18

I have one booked for next Monday, I've never had one before and I'm terrified. How long does it take to get results back? If there's anything wrong do they contact you quicker than if it's all normal?

Even though I don't have any symptoms of anything being wrong, I'm convincing myself there will be.

Nbg · 14/10/2008 19:21

Kaled, it is really quick and painless. A bit uncomfortable but not painful at all.

I'm not worried about the actual smear its just going into the dr's for it.

Yes I am daft.

kaled · 14/10/2008 19:27

I have had cervical sweeps to try and get my overdue babies to arrive. Is it anything like that? Because I found that quite painful.

Nbg · 14/10/2008 19:31

Not quite like that no.

I'll describe it in very basic terms because its not complicated at all.
They insert a hollow penis shaped object in and the nurse can seperate it slightly and all she does it takes a little sweep with what looks like a big cotton bud and thats it.

Does that make any sense?
