Have just been for mine

not the funnest way to spend 10 minutes, but hey! don;t need another one for 3 years...

also, here's a tip if the nurse has trouble finding your cervix, mine seemed to have wandered off, lie on your left side..

was over and done with very quickly and with complete and utter sensitivity and discretion.

i know it is a bit yuck, but it is important, and you can always take a friend with for moral support.

so, if you have been meaning to book in for yours, get it booked !

I can't remember when mine is due
I know I don't have to have them anually anymore but can't remember when I had the last one

mel1981 · 21/08/2008 10:46

I had mine done bout 6-7 weeks ago...should have the results back aready so u just reminded me i need to chase them up (although no sure if thats a good or bad sign?!)

Lazarou · 21/08/2008 10:46

Just booked mine, and had to make sure it was a female nurse doing it. There is a realy sexy male nurse at our surgery and I would be mortified if it was him doing it.
The receptionist had a good laugh when I asked her. She said 'I'm sure he could do it, but I don't think he'd want to'

Goober · 21/08/2008 10:52

Not doing it.

Lazarou · 21/08/2008 11:02

Goober, just lie back and think of England

whoops · 21/08/2008 11:05

Goober, I am big and fat but I still go for my smears.
I had abnormal cells 8 years ago and ahd them treated. If it wasn't for going for my smear I would never have know about the abnormals cells and who knows what would have happened to me now

derelicte · 21/08/2008 11:06

I had mine done last week, and can concur with the others that it really wasn't bad. The brush thing (rather than the old spatula) is far more comfortable, and it was over really quickly (legs only open for about a minute!).

They really do seem to have improved the technique massively.

I had to bring the DCs with me, and DD kept peeking round the curtain saying "Why are you looking at Mummy's bottom" lol! And when DH asked her what we'd done that day, all she could remember was the nurse-looking-at-Mummy's-bottom bit.

Lazarou · 21/08/2008 11:06

I had some dodgy cells as well a few years back. Had a couple of those delightful colposcopys. Then all was well. Freaked me out though, I didn't tell anyone apart from dh.

whoops · 21/08/2008 11:08

lazarou - I know what you mean, I had only just started seeing dh at that time and it freaked me out being early 20's and going through that but I have had 2 kids since and am thankful I went through with it all

Goober · 21/08/2008 19:27

I did it.
Booked it for next month.
Are you happy now?

MaryAnnSingleton · 21/08/2008 22:56

well done goober !!

BoysAreLikeDogs · 21/08/2008 22:59

Good girl, Goober, I am very pleased.

Have a lovely holiday

olivo · 22/08/2008 08:08

hey Goober, good on you! And enjoy your holiday!
am really nervous this morning but am dropping dd at MIL this afternoon so i won't have her commenting 'what mummy do?' every two minutes at the drs!

MaryAnnSingleton · 22/08/2008 08:10

good luck olivo - thinking of you

olivo · 22/08/2008 12:56

thanks, i'm off now .....

BoysAreLikeDogs · 22/08/2008 14:18

How did you get on ?

RipMacWinkle · 22/08/2008 14:21

feck - this is me. Am sure I'm about 3 years overdue. As in, I last went in 2002/3

I keep putting it off.

Going to phone right now. This very minute.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 22/08/2008 14:22

That's my girl

RipMacWinkle · 22/08/2008 14:36

Typical - tried to call 3 times, letting it ring for ages and no pigging answer.

Promise I'll phone again later. THis is genuinely something I keep meaning to do and then forgetting.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 22/08/2008 14:39

I will nudge you later.

ShowOfHands · 22/08/2008 14:45

This is such an excellent thread. I went for mine a few weeks ago. It was my first smear since having a traumatic birth that I have flashbacks to. I was nervous but it was perfectly okay. I just kept thinking 'I owe it to dd to have this screening, it's a wonderful thing we have available to us, I have a dd to think of' etc

Anyway, it was over in about 30 seconds and the results were all normal.

Anybody putting it off, make the appointment now, you can be talked through the build up to it but you must pick up the phone and call.

Cervical screening is a wonderful thing. One of my most favouritest MNers had a colposcopy recently and this spurred me on to have my smear.

Go on.

Do it.

RipMacWinkle · 22/08/2008 14:53

Thanks guys - this flashed up again so I tried again.

Appointment on Monday.

This was a great kick up the bahookey

BoysAreLikeDogs · 22/08/2008 14:56

Well done, Rip

I shall tickle yer oxsters on Monday night.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 22/08/2008 14:57

Oh, thank you, SoH
