Have just been for mine

not the funnest way to spend 10 minutes, but hey! don;t need another one for 3 years...

also, here's a tip if the nurse has trouble finding your cervix, mine seemed to have wandered off, lie on your left side..

was over and done with very quickly and with complete and utter sensitivity and discretion.

i know it is a bit yuck, but it is important, and you can always take a friend with for moral support.

so, if you have been meaning to book in for yours, get it booked !

Hiya i had mine today and it was fine. If it helps I will describe what happened? I came in and first of all she wanted to do some bloods so we tried that but she couldnt get any blood out lol so gave up.

Then she described to me what she was going to do. I asked for a wee drape thing to put over me while i was waiting which was fine.

I went behind the curtain and got undressed and sat on bed. She came round and asked me to lye back and put my knees bent and feet together. Then she asked me to let me knees drop open "as if your in a yoga class" lol

Then she put the speculum in which did hurt a tiny bit, she said it might hurt as she opened it up but it didnt. She couldnt see my cervix so I had to put my hands under my bum.

Then she did a wee brush but at the edge of my cervix and i honestly didnt feel it at all! Then she did a swab bit slightly inside my cervix and I just felt her touching it wasnt sore at all. Then she did a high vaginal swab, and it didnt hurt at all. Then she took speculum out and that was it. Was seriously over in like 2 minutes.

HTH

well done sparkly!

sparklyfairypie · 13/03/2008 12:25

thanks

So, had been putting off my test - various excuses.
Seven years whizzed by!

Now instead of just dreading having the smear done, I also dreaded the results.

Thank goodness the surgery kept sending me reminders, so I made an appointment, and actually kept it!

That was just over two weeks ago.

I was in and out of the surgery in less than 10 minutes.

And it was SO easy - not painful, not even all that uncomfortable.

And I got the results back today.

All seems normal.

I am aware that I am VERY lucky.

So, to all those of you who are worried about the test and the results - please bite the bullet and get yourself an appointment booked.

Even if it has been years and years since your last smear test, just do it.

Blimey, we're women FGS! If we can give birth to children and live with men, we can do this, no problem!

I will not miss an appointment again - it is too important.

well done BrothelSprouts

Thanks, MaryAnn.
I think this thread is really important, and hope it convinces other posters to get those smear tests booked.

MaryAnnSmotheredinchocolate · 15/03/2008 20:50

it is..I keep bumping it because it's something I dread and hate but realise the importance of putting up with a bit of undignified discomfort every few years

clayre · 20/03/2008 12:33

Had mine two weeks ago.

They use a wee thing like a teeny bottle brush now insted of that horrid scrrrratchy lolly stick, it was not uncomfortable at all.

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/04/2008 16:26

I got round to having mine a couple of weeks ago - only six months late
It really was fine - nurse is very good. If you are procrastinating - stop and make the appointment!

NorthernLurker · 07/04/2008 16:40

notjustmom - I think any time apart from your period is fine

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/04/2008 16:41

half way through your cycle is best I think...
