Have just been for mine

not the funnest way to spend 10 minutes, but hey! don;t need another one for 3 years...

also, here's a tip if the nurse has trouble finding your cervix, mine seemed to have wandered off, lie on your left side..

was over and done with very quickly and with complete and utter sensitivity and discretion.

i know it is a bit yuck, but it is important, and you can always take a friend with for moral support.

so, if you have been meaning to book in for yours, get it booked !

errr, another 7 years then?

ellideb · 15/04/2008 20:33

Please ladies don't put it off.

My mam went for her smear test a couple of years ago, having missed her previous one. When she got her results back it showed that she had grade 2 abnormal cells, i think grade 3 is very bad/not much hope left. Now if she had missed that appointment, like she had her last then she wouldn't be here today.

So go! Spread those legs!

lulumama · 15/04/2008 20:35

i have had normal smears for the last however long, and this time i got abnormal results, so i hvaev to go back.
i don;t smoke and no reason to think i am at risk.
it is just so important

Couldn't agree with you more lulu. Wishing you luck. My mam is fine now, she had the abnormal cells burned away. She smokes like a chimney and doesn't eat particularly healthily but I'm so glad she attended her last appointment. They check on her more often now.

lulumama · 15/04/2008 20:43

glad she is ok, thank you for posting

I had my smear last year - came back clear, but still (sorry if tmi) kept bleeding after sex, sometimes lots, sometime nothing and always reed fresh blood, went back and didnt do a repeat smear but did an internal and said there was nothing abnormal on my cervix. However, it keeps happening, and my period have gone very different to how they normally are - do I go back again?

hennipenni · 16/04/2008 12:51

weekly bump

hennipenni · 02/05/2008 15:17

Had mine done today, not to9o bad considering she couldn't find what she was looking for!
Is it normal for the nurse to tell you that if they find anything abnormal/suspicious that you would be referred straight to the colposcopy clinic? I thought that you got recalled via your nurse for a repeat smear (that is what i was told last time), I'm now worrying that she saw something that she didn't like the look of.

MargaretMountford · 02/05/2008 17:08

hennipenni - well done for going, I'm afraid I don't know about being referred to colposcopy clinic - I thought that they would just tell you to come back for a repeat smear...

BoysAreLikeDogs · 02/05/2008 17:14

henni, could be that she couldn't locate your cervix, so referred to coposcopy for them to have a 'proper look'

I have had loop diathermy for pre cancerous changes, 3 years ago, gimme a shout if you need more info.

Isheisnthe - sorry to have missed your Q; I would say pop to your Doctor, tell them your symptoms, bleeding after intercourse isn't nice.

I had my results back, all clear so repeat in a year.

Any more need handholding ?
