Have just been for mine

not the funnest way to spend 10 minutes, but hey! don;t need another one for 3 years...

also, here's a tip if the nurse has trouble finding your cervix, mine seemed to have wandered off, lie on your left side..

was over and done with very quickly and with complete and utter sensitivity and discretion.

i know it is a bit yuck, but it is important, and you can always take a friend with for moral support.

so, if you have been meaning to book in for yours, get it booked !

I have my smear test tomorrow. Been putting it off for a while but thought i had better book it!

chubbymummy · 26/02/2008 20:13

Oooopppsss! Was due for one when I got pregnant with my son (who's now 2yrs 8mths) and still haven't got round to it. Trying for a second child so I better not have one now either incase I'm pregnant. Oh dear!

sylvev · 26/02/2008 20:24

Had mine yesterday, uncomfortable because I have a "bulky cervix" apparantly! Oh well, at least it's hidden .
Glad it's over with, treated myself to chocolate!

greeneyedgirl · 27/02/2008 09:55

Had mine just before Christmas. I hate them, this time I bled profusely and it was very uncomfortable (although the nurse was really gentle and lovely). Seem to be alot more sensitive "down there" since had DD 3 years ago. Yuck!

Well at least it's over for another 3 years.

Tortington · 27/02/2008 10:00

i had mine after being prompted by mumsnet.

it said there ere boarderline changes and i had to go back

so i went back

and i need to go back again in 6 months to keep an eye on things.

so GO!

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/02/2008 10:01

we should keep this thread going as it does seem to encourage us to make the appointment ! thank you Lulumama for starting it !

Tortington · 27/02/2008 10:08

indeed lulumama thank you

tinnedsteelfasteners · 27/02/2008 10:17

Me - but only because I keep forgetting.

Plus it involves arranging childcare for through the day.

VanillaPumpkin · 27/02/2008 13:02

Do it! Have your dp/dh take a day off work and go out for lunch as a treat for after. Mine situation is the same as Custardo's and I am was only 30 when the first smear had abnormal changes. I am on 6 month, more thorough (ie 2) checks now.
Yes it is horrid and a PITA getting the timing right and organising the children but it is onnly once every three years (hopefully) and if you have to go more often then be glad they are looking after you so well .
Go on, get it booked. And if you are trying for a baby you should still go.......You know it. If you a just pregnant they may well still be able to do it. I bled a little last time and it was uncomfortable this time (I was more tense) and a bit after BUT I still went a will go again. Come on ladies get booked in. Be brave!

VanillaPumpkin · 27/02/2008 13:04

and sorry for the typos . You know what I mean......

MrsCarrot · 27/02/2008 13:12

yes, good thread

have just had surgery for abnormalities and though it's not pleasant at least it's gone now. Make that appointment!

Hello VP

VanillaPumpkin · 27/02/2008 13:21

Hello Mrs C . There are more messages for you on your thread btw.

MrsCarrot · 27/02/2008 16:17

Twiglett · 27/02/2008 16:20

me, I'm farkin' pissed off with them .. had 4 consecutive clear ones and they're still asking me back every 6 months

enough already

Lulumama · 27/02/2008 16:22

sorry twig, that is really over and above , isn't it??

got my repeat smear in april....

OP posts:
Lulumama · 27/02/2008 16:23

that is why i have to go back too , custy.. i believe it is very common to have borderline changes, and a lot of the time, the repeat smear is normal.. even if it is not, it is still catching the changes incredibly early...

OP posts:
tortoise · 27/02/2008 22:34

Had mine today. A little painful but at least it is over with for now.
Had to take DD2 3 with me. She sat and chatted with me. Completly ignored what was going on!

MaryAnnSingleton · 06/03/2008 22:40

Lulabellx1 · 07/03/2008 06:50
