Have just been for mine

not the funnest way to spend 10 minutes, but hey! don;t need another one for 3 years...

also, here's a tip if the nurse has trouble finding your cervix, mine seemed to have wandered off, lie on your left side..

was over and done with very quickly and with complete and utter sensitivity and discretion.

i know it is a bit yuck, but it is important, and you can always take a friend with for moral support.

so, if you have been meaning to book in for yours, get it booked !

Oooh no nothing that dramatic! . Just a tidy up.

Walnutshell · 23/02/2008 19:26

gosh, this thread is still going! still have head in sand.

VanillaPumpkin · 25/02/2008 10:50

So, I went this morning. All done and dusted for another six months.....hopefully.
And yes it is crappy and not fun and trying to relax in that position is hard work, but it is important!
I go because I look at my children and my husband and know I would do anything to make sure I will be with them. So GET BOOKED IN LADIES!!! (And I really really hate it btw) I am going to make myself a hot chocolate now as I am feeling in need of reward.

MaryAnnSingleton · 25/02/2008 10:52

well done Vanilla ! I always think that I owe it to my dh and son and brave it...hope the nurse appreciated the manicure

VanillaPumpkin · 25/02/2008 10:56

Lol. Thankfully she didn't see fit to comment .
They have to do two sorts of samples for me at the moment and I always ask for a swab while they are down there so I don't think she had time to observe . God, I bloody hope not anyway!

MaryAnnSingleton · 25/02/2008 12:43

!

oxcat1 · 25/02/2008 13:13

Ok, now I'm being a baby and putting this off too...

One question though - do you all go to your GPs to get it done? I have to see the practice nurse relatively frequently for other medical conditions and I think I'd find it difficult to discuss my breathing problems if I knew she'd seen my fanjo....

Am I being stupid?!

The last time I went to the family planning clinic as I thought it would be a nurse I'd never have to see again. However, I just rung them and they have no appointments until end of April.

I am just putting it off, aren't I.
Oh heck.

Need to make a dentist appointment too. Now that I really, really hate.

MaryAnnSingleton · 25/02/2008 14:41

I go to m y GPs surgery and have the practice nurse,or one of them - she happens to be one I've seen before but I don't go regularly for anything...in a way I 'd prefer it if it was someone I knew as I'd feel a bit more comfortable ( if that's possible !) My previous GP used to do them himself and I saw him a lot over the years for all kinds of things, lots of emotional stuff and felt very comfortable with him as I liked and respected him, though showing your privates to anyone is very embarrassing !

sparklyfairypie · 26/02/2008 00:02

Just reading this thread. Cant sleep have nurse tomorrow to discuss my "down there" problems. and i know she might do an internal/smear so am really nervous. this thread helping loads. im petrified.

hope its the same nurse else il chicken out for sure.

il pop back on tomorrow after it and share how it went. feel so much better knowing others are as scared as me!

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/02/2008 10:11

thinking of you sparkly - let us know how you get on

VanillaPumpkin · 26/02/2008 10:53

Hope all OK Sparkly. You will feel better once it is all done .

clayre · 26/02/2008 11:00

sparkly i was petrified too, but the nice lady dr i knew offered to do it for me and she was really good and it was over in under 30seconds, they had been trying for about 8 years to get me to have a smear, i didnt sleep the night before either, but when it was done i couldnt beleive what all the fuss about xx

lucykate · 26/02/2008 11:00

i've been putting mine off , have made an appointment for next wednesday, coil check at the same time, double whammy!!

sparklyfairypie · 26/02/2008 14:58

thanks guys
it went very well the nurse was lovely, she has referred me to a dr who knows a bit more about the probs im having and im seeing her next monday. she said that alot of the symptoms i have are ones of pcos, however they could also be nothing to worry about.

so im on track now to get things properly investigated. and i am SO glad i went, felt like such a relief to tell someone about the somewhat embarasing symptoms, and for her to be so nice was reassuring.

now that the ball is rolling i feel its out of my hands now a bit and i can relax.

bellavita · 26/02/2008 15:05

Had a letter to say please book a smear.

Every time I go, the nurse makes me bleed. Then says I may have to go back again - which I always end up doing.

Will get letter out and ring dr's after school.

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/02/2008 15:44

well done sparkly
and bellavita that you have to go through that but good that you do go

fruitfulinotherways · 26/02/2008 16:04

Oh well done Sparkly. And Belavita - is it always the same nurse? Can you go somewhere else?

I just had to come on this thread to do a little happy dance 'cos I never have to have a smear again . Can't have any more babies and have a 25cm scar running up my front, but hey No More Smears.

bellavita · 26/02/2008 17:15

Always the same nurse - but hey ho gotta be done. Going to make appointment now.

bellavita · 26/02/2008 17:20

Just done it - Tue 4th March and now realised that is only next week ahhhhh.

MaryAnnSingleton · 26/02/2008 17:35
