Have just been for mine

not the funnest way to spend 10 minutes, but hey! don;t need another one for 3 years...

also, here's a tip if the nurse has trouble finding your cervix, mine seemed to have wandered off, lie on your left side..

was over and done with very quickly and with complete and utter sensitivity and discretion.

i know it is a bit yuck, but it is important, and you can always take a friend with for moral support.

so, if you have been meaning to book in for yours, get it booked !

hooray - my results came today and they're normal - was anxious in case they hadn't collected enough cells and I'd have to go again !

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/01/2008 12:11

shall bump this very good thread again as a reminder !

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/01/2008 14:59

well done indith !

Dalrymps · 27/01/2008 15:04

Oh god yeah, I have to have one every 6 months which takes longer than a normal one and it's at the hospital, they spray stuff up there and tske pictures and sometimes biopsy's, JOY! Annoying thing is, my new docs keep sending me reminders for my normal smear all the time when i don't need one - leave me alone!

Lulumama · 27/01/2008 15:27

great indith !

sympathies dalrymps ...

Gah! Kick me too. I had an abnormal result, then a normal one six months later and now I need to go again. I have been putting it off till the second reminder.......

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/01/2008 16:53

VanillaPumpkin · 27/01/2008 16:58

Yes. I will try and book for next week. Have wild winter fanjo though so will have to sort that first I suppose. Actually, are you supposed to book mid cycle? I might wait till after my next period if that is the case. But I promise I will book. All the paperwork is by my bed so I can't forget.

Dottydot · 27/01/2008 17:09

I'm still working up to it...

MaryAnnSingleton · 27/01/2008 17:17

fingers crossed lulu...keep bumping this whenever I remember

For people who have had grim experiences at their GP, I can highly recommend a sexual health clinic (don't worry, they're separate from the clap clinic!). The staff spend all day handling fannies and are very skilled. Since having the DSs, I've found speculum exams v.painful. I had an IUD done recently and the doctor told me to press my bum into the table - hey presto, not so bad!!

Lulumama · 21/02/2008 12:38

at handling fannies! but that is a good tip!

most practice nurses though do smears every day, rather than gps,who might be a bit rusty,if they have the time in the first place..

VanillaPumpkin · 21/02/2008 12:56

I have waxed and booked . For Monday. Just hope results are normal this time......
