Have just been for mine

not the funnest way to spend 10 minutes, but hey! don;t need another one for 3 years...

also, here's a tip if the nurse has trouble finding your cervix, mine seemed to have wandered off, lie on your left side..

was over and done with very quickly and with complete and utter sensitivity and discretion.

i know it is a bit yuck, but it is important, and you can always take a friend with for moral support.

so, if you have been meaning to book in for yours, get it booked !

Well I thought it was fine, and I suppose yes a brush is nicer than wood! Takes a little longer but is fine.

Best wishes to all.

MrsCarrot · 07/01/2008 17:03

Thank you - and shudder at brush! I don't mind the procedure too much, it's always over much quicker than I think. I would like to get back to three yearly ones though, every six months is a drag.

VictorianSqualor · 07/01/2008 18:05

The brush is a different type of smear IIRC, as last time I went to the colposcopy clini they did the normal cotton bud type smear and then a brush smear too.

ROSEgarden · 08/01/2008 10:38

off for mine in about 1/2 hour!...bit unsure as to what will result as i feel very heavy(priod due) so may alter results?

annieatno4 · 08/01/2008 12:29

Had my first smear for 10 years in November - i was very nervous about the whole thing, the actual smear and what the results would be.
All went ok, and results came back yesterday, all clear! dont have to think about it for another 3 years now.

hennipenni · 08/01/2008 12:49

Rigyt, who wants to give me a virtual kick up the a**e? Mine is over due by about a yr. It's noit that I don't want it done I just can't find the time when I won't have hoards of inquisitve children with me, I'm a CM hence the children bit. Also my periods are very irregular at the momet so I don't know when half way through my period is! (anything from 17 to 33 day cycles)

ROSEgarden · 08/01/2008 13:54

Hey Henni, i just got back, all went fine.
he told me im still on yearly(this 'should' be my last) as after the laser treatment i missed two with being pg with dd...our surgery have been doing the brush/liquid method for nearly two years now, didnt realsie till i got there, she said i had it last time...funy thing was, we were discussing other prob while i was geting dressed and another nurse walked in and my nurse said oh this is x's daughter, nurse said oh hello how areyou...all the while i am pulling my knickers up from round my ankles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..very bizarre, good job i dont get easilly embarresed!...anyway done!, she said it should be fine even though i am due on very soon as this method is more indepth, but will wait and see

ROSEgarden · 08/01/2008 13:55

princessmel · 08/01/2008 13:57

I got the reminder letter for mine before xmas. I haven't had it yet.
I hate having it so much. I find it so embarrasing.

Will do it soon though.

Highlander · 08/01/2008 14:00

Had mine last week, only 2 weeks after reminder arrived, oh smug, smug, smug

Had to apologise for flourishing lady garden, and nurse was very interested in how painful bikini waxing was, and was it worth it for a weeks holiday

lulumama · 08/01/2008 14:02

hennipenni · 08/01/2008 14:21

LM and Rose. All my days that I have off are taken up with DDs appointments (usually hosp ones) or with training days. If I need to go to GPs I usually take them with me (don't go often as I'm usually fit and well, any creams etc that I need I get on a rpt px.)

However, have just heard that one mindee is changing hours/days which means that I'll have an afternoon off per week. Will wait till this happens and make an appointment- but then will need to work aroun irregular AF!

princessmel · 08/01/2008 14:22

I know, I know !!

dd also got sent a letter about an injection she was supposed to have. I think it was a pnuemeccocol (sp) booster She hasn't had that either. I'll call them about that now.

hennipenni · 08/01/2008 14:55

D'oh, Rose I've just worked out who you are! How mushy is my brain!!

ROSEgarden · 08/01/2008 16:21

, Hey Henni, you could(if you dont work lates???every night) go to a clinic, they are on round this way until about 8pm??..i go for my pill and if needed i can get my smear done there too???

bluedomino · 08/01/2008 23:37

I need one but I'm terrified. They have always been excruicatingly painful. After DD born I had to have a abdominal scan and they couldnt find whatever it was they were looking for so did an internal scan, with a HUGE dildo thing, the scan lady said my uterus was pointing the wrong way, she had to put loads of rubber wedges under my bum to find whatever it was she was looking for. I can't remeber exactly what she said because by this time I had shut down all my senses!! She asked me did I find smears painful and I said yes plus I always bleed afterwards, and she said its due to my uterus being "inverted" (I think thats what she said). When I spoke to GP about it she said she'd never heard of it.
Since having a horrendous birth and that very unpleasant scan experience, I keep putting it off. Promise I will get one done after this baby is born. Thanks for nagging. Does anyone else have this problem?

Beauregard · 08/01/2008 23:39

Highlander · 14/01/2008 11:18
