Have just been for mine

not the funnest way to spend 10 minutes, but hey! don;t need another one for 3 years...

also, here's a tip if the nurse has trouble finding your cervix, mine seemed to have wandered off, lie on your left side..

was over and done with very quickly and with complete and utter sensitivity and discretion.

i know it is a bit yuck, but it is important, and you can always take a friend with for moral support.

so, if you have been meaning to book in for yours, get it booked !

i have been putting mine off for a while

when in the cycle does it need to be done (cant rememebr[double blush]) as need to see GP soon about contraception as well. can i bypass the GP and get practise nurses apointment for both of these things??

MrsKittylette · 06/01/2008 20:30

Im 24 this year and never had one, I have 2 kids - should I have?

Indith · 06/01/2008 20:32

Yes you should kitty!

Misdee make sure you tell the surgery that you want a smear at the same time as not all nurses are necessarily able to do smears. My drs messed up, I should have had it done when I had a coil put in after ds but they gave me the wrong nurse!

lulumama · 06/01/2008 20:33

misdee, i think you have had other things on your mind

indith... what is your excuse !

you should have one kitty, I think any woman who is sexually active should have one... speak to your practice nurse at the GPs sugery

I have been recalled due to an abnormal result, so even if it is anything, it is so very pre pre pre anything serious, it can be dealt with in plenty of time... it is just so important to have regular smears

if the nurse finds it difficult to reach your cervix, lie on your left side, that often does the trick

lulumama · 06/01/2008 20:38

Misdee · 06/01/2008 20:38

right once Af decides to make an apparence (am not preg but AF is 10days late) i will book an appointment for two weeks after that.

RIELOVESBACARDI · 06/01/2008 20:39

its finding the time when you not on or got kids with you or if you neat and tidy

VictorianSqualor · 06/01/2008 20:51

WRT when to have a smear, I had my first child at 19, and was told to book a smear once I'd stopped bleeding, put it off as you do, anyway, when I had DS at 24 I tried to book one as soon as I stopped bleeding.
They wouldn't let me, I even booked up and WENT to the appntmnt to be told the hospital wouldn't check the test so I had o wait until I recieved a letter once I'd turned 25. This was about a month before my 25th birthday.

Also had abnormal results with that first smear so it really bloody annoyed me tbh.

Lulu is this your first abnormal smear result? What do you have to do? go back for another or have a colposcopy?

lulumama · 06/01/2008 22:18

it is , VS, and i have to have a re test in April and take it from there. Practice nurse said it could well come back as normal. hope so anyway

VictorianSqualor · 06/01/2008 23:10

I was quite surpirsed I was sent to hospital with my first lot of abnormal smears, but am glad as obv being pg now etc would be hard if it hadnt been fixed, but even if you do get abnorm again and need a colposcopy, try not to worry, easier said than done I know, but mines all better now

Indith · 07/01/2008 14:42

ROSEgarden · 07/01/2008 15:51

Got mine tomorrow 12.15..never used to hurt even after colposcopy, but last time and time before it did?..maybe since having dd?..not looking forward to it, but never the less!

ROSEgarden · 07/01/2008 15:53

and im half expecting mine(although hope it doesnt) to come back as a re test as its almost TOTM and when i had one done around this time a few years agoo it came back in conclusive and had to go again!

MrsCarrot · 07/01/2008 15:58

I am having a repeat next week after another abnormal one. Lat time I had severe dyskariosis (cervical changes) and had surgery for it.

I really hope it's normal next week. I have had one that was abnormal then fine since the surgery so fingers crossed.

Indith · 07/01/2008 15:58

May not Rose, they have changed the way they do them recently and are getting much better results. According to the nurse today instead of using a wooden spatula and scraping it onto a slide they now use a brush and the whole brush head gets sent to the lab so there are more cells to test.

lulumama · 07/01/2008 15:59

hope all is well mrscarrot

and for you too rose
