For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

No, immersion heater not really worth using as water only gets lukewarmish, plus I'm scared now FK says it may be unsafe.

Boco - how awful. Have you seen doctor? Is it Scarlet Fever? Does sound very Victorian like FNF said.

Poor Franny. It sounds a bit tense. Is ds pleased or conflicted?

Lullabyloo · 14/10/2007 18:28

Boco.....ds had scarlett fever on his first birthday.....v.scary...ran a temp of 107 for 3 days

lionheart · 14/10/2007 19:50

Boco, that's awful but Ihope she's feeling better.

The sword is the same sort of thing as the ham, isn't it? Slightly odd and antagonistic.

FrayedKnot · 14/10/2007 20:23

Hello

Sorry to hear about DD Boco. I hope you managed to see the Dr.

Franny is it like a sort of challenge to see what your reaction will be, or is it more like the sense of satisfaction at doing something she knows you won;t like? Either way, rather odd

I am having a pile problem but I thought with 10/10 and everything this kind of problem would be non-existent

I have had them since DS was born and they don;t normally cause me problems but now I have this ruddy great thing (sorry hope no-one is eating )

Has anyone had them and tried horse chestnut or any other similar remedies? I am going to the health food shop tomorrow so i can stock up on pretty much anything if anyone can recommend something?

I think I will have to go to the Dr though if it isn;t better tomorrow

zippitippitoes · 14/10/2007 20:26

lionheart · 14/10/2007 21:06

Yes, the extra gorgeous young man.

TooTicky · 14/10/2007 22:04

Sorry FK, never had them so can't help. You cure them with conkers? Ds1 has plenty of those, he could send you some...
Of course I'd just send you straight to a homeopath

OP posts:
TooTicky · 14/10/2007 22:07

I am horribly restless, bad tempered, overtired and possibly dehydrated.
So probably best avoided. I will tidy and grumble to myself.

OP posts:
FrayedKnot · 14/10/2007 22:20

See I knew no other 10/10ers would have had them

Aha, perhaps I could make my own horse chestnut extract. .

TooTicky · 14/10/2007 22:37

100x, wherever you are, if you were not 100% serious about me coming over for a bath then please shriek otherwise I may be found wandering insensibly around the perimeters of the park with a bottle of shampoo and a towel.

OP posts:
TooTicky · 14/10/2007 22:38

FK, I wonder if it is the conkers themselves or extract of leaf or bark or something.

OP posts:
TooTicky · 14/10/2007 22:40

FK, for you:

Q. What would you suggest as a natural alternative treatment for piles? I am 63 years old, on no medication and relatively fit.

CS, by e-mail

A. First, you need to ensure that your bowels are moving as freely as possible, as piles are usually related to constipation. Drink plenty of water and eat gentle fibre, such as whole brown rice and porridge oats, along with vegetables, especially the dark green leafy ones that contain vitamin K (essential for blood clotting), and good old prunes.

There are specific herbs that really do help piles, often those whose primary medicinal action is as an astringent. The herbalist Nicholas Culpeper was a great exponent of the virtues of the herb pilewort for the treatment of piles. Horse chestnut can also be used, and works on varicose veins, too, as it appears to assist in the strengthening and toning of the blood-vessel walls. While these remedies provide help with the outward manifestation of piles, the herbs yellow dock and dandelion give gentle support to the eliminative processes of the liver as well as digestion, both of which are linked to piles and varicose veins.

All the above herbs are contained in a formula called Pilease (£14.95, plus p&p, for 100 vegicaps, from Herbs of Grace; 01638
712123, www.herbsofgrace.co.uk). For best results, use it alongside its pilewort cream (£5.95, plus p&p, for 50ml), which contains pilewort, horse chestnut and marigold. Alternatively, simply apply witch hazel. Pilease is contraindicated for pregnant women.

Oh, and it is conker extract - NOT whole conkers as they are toxic. And somewhat difficult to swallow I should imagine

FrannyandZooey · 14/10/2007 22:49

Oh god. Thank you all for understanding what is going on here. Dp said "she doesn't mean anything by it" and I had to say to him "you really need to support me here and not join in this crap about her not meaning anything by it." I have glossed over it this evening because what is the fucking point and also her sister died this week so I really did not want to upset her further.

But yes, of course it is odd and antagonistic and spiteful and all of those things. The minute you say something, she does this very convincing confused old lady act. And gets away with it. But you know, BOTH my sisters and even dp cornerned me after it had happened, to say "she didn't do it on PURPOSE". If she absolutely didn't do it on purpose and was completely innocent, why did it even come into anybody's HEAD that she MIGHT have done??? Hmm? If someone broke something you loved, you would be really hacked off, but people wouldn't run around saying "they didn't do it on PURPOSE", would they? Unless they actually thought there was a good possibility that yes they DID.

She gave it to him when I was in another room. There is a sword and a helmet and a fricking dagger ffs. He was delighted and came running in (he is very much interested in weaponry but has more or less accepted it makes me uncomfortable and we don't have them), and said "look at this, this is mine!" I laughed "No it isn't!" thinking there was a joke or a mistake or something? The idea of anyone giving him that knowing how I feel about stuff is just laughable. No, she had given it to him. She knew fucking well how I felt. She swears blind she had no idea - this is bollocks.

I have been bloody nice about it but I am totally depressed that she would undermine my choices like this. Bloody depressed. I have told ds it is just for playing with at grandma's house and we aren't going to take it home. He was pissed off with me, and hasn't touched it since. I am gutted she has stirred up trouble between the two of us, but I feel strongly about this while he is so little. I don't feel critical of anyone who does have swords and stuff, and I hope nobody thinks I have a problem with their choices for their children, but this was my choice for him at the moment. I hope it is ok to talk about this - I am sure lots of you have swords and whatever for your children. That is fine by me.

FrannyandZooey · 14/10/2007 22:50
