Oh, just seen, Charliecat. A MONTH. Well done!

minkmama · 08/11/2004 13:31

Hi nearlyfour, i find that with the craving thing it changes from day to day. one day i'll be dying for one after dinner and on another it will be just going out for a coffee. i often find that a drink helps at the end of the evening (which i'm sure you mentioned as well) but let's face it, sometimes NOTHING helps at the end of a hard day. and that includes a ciggie

Your PhD sound v. interesting prefernot, what do you do now, do you work in a gallery? i wanted to do my degree in fine art as well but my parents said it wasn't a 'proper' degree (i.e.not theoretical) so i ended upwith one in Theology!! did my masters in international business so to follow will probably end up doing my PhD in Beekeeping.

minkmama · 08/11/2004 13:32

oh oh babies are awake, better go for now!

nearlyfour · 08/11/2004 14:00

Hi prefernot, I was on about 15, but this was increasing, which was one of the reasons I HAD to stop. I'm on patches, and go to a pharmacist (part of the Primary Care Trust Give up smoking campaign) once a week to have a chat with her and pick up the patches. She also does a test which measures the carbon dioxide in your lungs - I find this very scary! But, I am looking forward to going back on Friday to see if there has been a reduction - there had better be!! I think I go to her for four weeks.

prefernot · 08/11/2004 14:02

minkmama, your parents were quite right, a degree in fine art isn't a proper one! I still make some art (mostly video and some photos) but hardly anything since dd was born as I've had no time or inclination to be honest. And I work as a film researcher just 2 days a week. How about you, are you working?

And everyone else? I'd love to know a bit more personal info. I guess you've done it all on earlier threads but if you can bear to recap?

prefernot · 08/11/2004 14:04

Gosh, nearlyfour, that's a helpful set up with your pharmacist. I can't imagine my local ABC chemists doing that . I was on 30 pre-dd then about 5 the year after she was born, then 10 the second year after she was born. Give it another year it'd have been 20, then 30 and so on. Has to stop doesn't it?

fionagib · 08/11/2004 14:38

my gawd, an array of degrees & Phds! am ashamed to say that I had no further education at all, which probly accounts fur my atroshus shpellin.

am starting to FEEL like a non smoker rather than someone who's horribly deprived!

Gonna take kids swimming after skool so I can put down dd's name for lessons so will catch up later tonight, AFTER a run, if am still alive... xxx

(if I drop down dead I leave my copy of Allen Carr's Easy way to cc, not that you need it these days!)

prefernot · 08/11/2004 15:30

Ummm, fg, you're the one with the publishing contract so therefore living proof of the needlessness of education!! I'm looking forward very much to that moment of feeling an ex smoker rather than a deprived person. At the moment I'm feeling pretty shady.

I'm leaving work early today as feel grotty and I'm going off to my mums tomorrow until Thursday. she doesn't know I've given/giving up smoking yet so hopefully it'll be a lovely surprise though my mums so low-key she'll probably just say 'oh, that's nice dear' and sigh into her teacup while gazing adoringly at dd.

So what I mean to say is, unless i get an odd moment to pop back tonight, I may not be here again until late Thursday or Friday and strange as it might sound I'll miss you all!!! Hope you all have a good middle of the week, big smoke-free kisses and hugs from London to wherever you are xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

charliecat · 08/11/2004 16:22

Have a nice time prefernot! Have I missed you explaining your name???!!!
I noticed on a thread earlier on MN someone was saying they had just realised why their DH was in a huffy mood, hes given up smoking...OMG non smokers really have NO IDEA what a consuming thing this is, and its not bloody easy is it?
Well if it was wed have all stopped years ago...
Some personal info about me, my real name is Penny, but I like CC just as much Im CC because the cats called CC and he must have been sitting somewhere near when I joined MN, I have 2 dds called Tasha(nearly 7) and Tanya (nearly 4) and a dp called Paddy/Mark whos not very helpful most of the time and is like a 3rd child in the sense that he needs nagged to do anything that DRIVES ME MAD.
I have no Phds, except in playdough and creative mess I work in a nursery Tuesdays and Thursdays and whenever needed and im a lady of leisure the rest of the time whilst dp works from 4-5am till 6-7pm[guilty]
I am determined to stop smoking, as it has consumed me and my brain for WAYYYYYY too long now and I am an ebay addict.
Oh and one more thing, I am printing out one of those storys from Joels Library a week and sticking it up in the kitchen window so when im doing the dishes I can read it and weep. I DO need the reminder why I am doing this and if thats what it takes.
I long for the way when hours pass me by without thinking of fags. Hope fully when Im off the lozengers. Ive had 3 today probably 5 by the end of the day. Ramble Ramble...

Oh can someone help me here...
Free dvd rental if I get this right...heres a clue...
