For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Hurrah, well done Boco. Will be the most popular club in the school.

Why strange re the boys and girls? 10 y-o boys are divine and so much more straight-forwarder (as ds1 might say), even the tricky ones. I think. I don't know actually, not sure why I'm saying this, just surprised by your surprise I suppose.

Anyway, success, hurrah.

Wombling - oh god what relief, well done. Are you feeling happier?

TooT - washed? warm? Eating cereal out of the packets?

Avi - where do you live?

3andnomore - I like this posting style, I can see why you do it.

BBee - and you too.

Just had to go and pick up ds1 from school. Is ill. Have sent him to bed. Bum, for us both.

3andnomore · 03/10/2007 14:42

lol 100...is it infectious

Anywyas, sorry, am feeling complete crap and ick, hence me avoiding this thread....ys had diarhoea yesterday and today it's mine and es's turn...sigh...

Franny did get your E-mail...and meant to reply, and will do, honest

womblingalong · 03/10/2007 14:48

Oh everyone,

He's like a different baby, it's so fab. He is smiley, has colour in his cheeks, will play by himself for a few minutes at a time, has chubbier cheeks and is finally getting a round baby belly and chunky dimpled thighs. I could just eat him up. And the best bit is he is sleeping in the day which is unheard of - for 3 hours sometimes!

I am so relieved, but a little sad that I had to top up with formula, and that I will be back at work in a month, and won't be with him so much just as he gets happy & fun.

Lullabyloo · 03/10/2007 14:54

hello chaps
loving the title

last few days have been exhausting & computer has been unobliging & horrid....Sunday was food shopping, swimming & mini steam train rides...Monday was a horrendous early start & a train journey to London to see the hepatologist...trains were delayed, tubes were up the creak it was cold & rainy & I was ......however....did hop off at Sloane square for a mooch & some sushi....came home to find ds still asleep (4.30pm)...house like a bombsite & dh 'tired' & flustered.....ho hum

I am building up a collection of hats....my hair is falling out in clumps.....my head is cold.......i could cry......

Went to a boden sale this morninmg.....was hellish....did buy a nice pair of velvet boots though......then ds & I went to the new organic cafe & had divine mix of salads in dear little cardboard containers & owner was v.impressed with ds's knowledge of herbage in little silver buckets on the counter.......he asked for basil on his roasted veg

Am toying with joining a posh spa....my grandmother has offered to pay....it has a saltwater pool & moor mud jacuzzi, juice bar & bedroom....i think i'll just move in........

somebody cheer me up.....am feeling pathetic today

Lullabyloo · 03/10/2007 14:57

Boco....club sounds marvellous....ds would love it
100x & 3...... for you......hope you feel better soon xx

Boco · 03/10/2007 15:24

Oh dear Lully Did the specialist hep.. what is one of those? Were they helpful? I'm sorry you've had a hard few days, hope you start to feel better.

And 3, there's a bug going round here - really hoping none of us get it, can't stand sick bugs, my neighbour has it and i was visibly backing away from her shielding myself.

100 i suppose i just don't know boys. 5 year old girls are much more civilized than 5 year old boys - the ones i know - i just thought it'd be the same further up, but it isn't. The girls are far scarier, they look you up and down and ask lots of questions like 'where do you live miss? how old are you miss? why are you doing this miss?' The boys frown and concentrate.

the liver specialist.......he was a real sweetie....gave me nearly 2 hrs of his time & went through scans etc.
They cannot remove the tumors....they are like blood filled sponges..the largest about 12-13cm diameter..best left alone unless start to act like sumps & cause my heart to work too hard or dramatically impede liver function or cause me pain.I have to have an mri scan every 6m ..& watch & wait basically.
I will lose my hair though....which although incredibly vain....i am finding very difficult.

Lullabyloo · 03/10/2007 15:41

off to park for tree climbing & duck feeding...it's glorious now .x.

Boco · 03/10/2007 15:59

Oh no that's really not vain Lully - anyone would find that hard. Lovely hats - and scarves, there are some gorgeous wintery ones around, we should all keep an eye out for pretty ones to cheer you up.

OP posts:
3ScaryMonstersAndNoMore · 03/10/2007 16:07

Lullyby....loosing your hair is a difficult thing to face...when working in oncology , obvioulsy most of the patients were faced with it, and they all went around it different ways...and all are completely normal, iykwim....some felt that just taking the lot off was better then watching it fall out, forinstance and so on...
But yes there are some pretty scars and hats and also some funky fashion hairpieces, etc...as well as obviously the wigs now can look fabulous....luckily things have moved on so much over the years...

womblingalong · 03/10/2007 16:19

Not suprised you are feeling down LL. The loss of your hair is such an important thing to a lot of women.

You can get scarves and hats as 3 and Boco have said, and also wigs arfe an option, although I ould suggest getting it cut into a style by a hairdresser if poss.

How is DS doing, and are you getting some practical help with things from DH or someone else?

MrsCarrot · 03/10/2007 16:48

Wow, Boco, that sounds really good. I'm very impressed, I thought you were teaching children the same age as your dd. Ten is scary. Well done. Are you revising? Now, what is a pelican crossing?

MrsCarrot · 03/10/2007 16:51

Lullaby - you sound very brave as usual. The spa is a great idea I think you should di it.

ahundredtimes · 03/10/2007 17:00

Lully does that mean that you're not having any kind of treatment? Sorry, if I've got this wrong and have missed some update.

Re hair - oh god yes, a traumatic bugger. The scarves and hats thing is good - also my friend has a very, very good wig, not squiffy and weird looking at all. They have come on leaps and bounds I understand.

Boco lol @ 'where do you live miss?' Last year I used to go in and run the library at lunchtimes at ds1's school. All the Year 5 girls used to hang around my desk and say very alarming things like ''What car do you drive?' 'do you have any pets' AND 'do you get your hair cut much?' And all these lovely boys would sit at the tables reading books and frowning, and I would look at them longingly.

Boco · 03/10/2007 17:22

LOl Carrot funny you should say that - it's just the bit i'm shrieking at my book about - i didn't know there were so many different kinds of crossings! toucan pelican zebra and PUFFIN - what? what are they? please, someone, explain crossings to me! And hand signals, there are questions about hand signals - i didn't know you used hand signals, i keep getting them wrong.

I would like a boy now. I never fancied one before. Now I'm a little scared of having two teenage girls. That will be a challenge.

OP posts:
FrannyandZombie · 03/10/2007 17:44

Boys are fab. They need you a lot.

Lully I have two friends who wear / wore wigs and one has virtually the best looking hair of anyone I know. It always looks beautifully styled and the colour and shine are gorgeous. She hasn't any hair of her own so invested in a very beautiful wig. But yes, I would think it must be dreadfully hard to get used to.

Am having salad and halloumi. Lovely.

ahundredtimes · 03/10/2007 18:15

Ah, now I like having a bit of both I think. Boys are lovely - am particularly keen on the back of their necks - but also girls are extremely lovely for the saying 'well Mrs F said to Mr H today during Assembly 'you are looking very nice' and he said 'thank you' and me and Hannah HEARD Her.' This is all quite new to me, also is her total lack of interest in gathering facts about the weather. Most refreshing.

However, this has nothing whatsoever to do with girls and boys but to do with ds, ds2 and dd.

Boco - I got derailed by my theory exam. I remember one question about what to do if you breakdown on the motorway and all the options seemed mad to me. I wanted to tick, Cry but it wasn't there.

I am rambling aren't I. Apologies. Apologies MrsC, don't be huffy with me.

FrannyandZombie · 03/10/2007 18:17

I haven't any choice but to make the best of boys, so I am bigging them up

Tatties · 03/10/2007 18:17

Oh Lully, sorry you're feeling awful. I would definitely take up the spa offer, it sounds lovely and if anyone deserves it it's you.

Boco, coming from a family of girls, I could never imagine what it would be like to have a boy. Ds is hard work and all that, but he is lovely. I am glad I got the opportunity to experience something I didn't realise I wanted, iyswim!

FrannyandZombie · 03/10/2007 18:18

I used to read the Highway Code, for fun. I really liked the design of the road signs and I reckon I still know most of them despite not being able to drive at all. I was a lonely child.

lionheart · 03/10/2007 18:38

Hooray for wombling's plump, sleepy baby.

But Lullaby, no wonder it's hard. Thank god you have a doctor who takes the time to explain stuff.

Boco I have still not seen the bunny. Not a jot of it.

lionheart · 03/10/2007 18:39

And it's not vain at all. Not at all.

Lullabyloo · 03/10/2007 19:00

thanks everyone

my hairdresser really wanted to cut my hair short..but I couldnt face it....it's long...has always been long & such a part of who i am.

I've been wearing gypsy type scarves for weeks but cannot really disguise it any longer...beanie hats are the look this week & have my eye on some vintage 20's & 30's hats on ebay.

the park was glorious,we have another stack of beautiful leaves for yet another collage...ds wants to make an owl.
Yesterday we made clay & matchstick hedgehogs...we have a whole family of them

I am still thinking about that 'bringing up baby ' programme last night...that dreadful woman had me in floods of tears....grrrrrrrrrrrrr....double grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I need to bake......I need cake
We have wild mushroom rissotto for supper..with rocket, watercress, sunblush tomato & parmesan salad

I have a fig obsession at the moment....it's costing me a small fortune

I quite like having a boy and a girl.
