For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

They are, or were, meant to be ordinary items from around the house. There were candlesticks, wheelbarrows, originally, made of wood during the war, or something.

FMV it sounds like an unforgettable time, well done to your DS for telling them where to stick their demo

Carotte · 24/09/2007 20:13

Yes, well done master FMV, that sounds hilarious him unsettling all the suits and getting to play after all.

Is LL still away do we know?

I think FMF's ds is our new thread hero

if we need leading into revolution he will be the one we can turn to

I am eating a bowl of hot soup. It is v nice. It has onions, mushrooms, aubergines, courgette, summer squash, carrot, parsnip, corn and lentil in. I think I have got my 10, possibly just in this bowl.

I have been to the gym. My beautiful sadist personal trainer is an arse. It took me 1.5 hours to do all the things he put on my new regime and I didn't even do The Plank. I said to him at the time "I don't know if I am going to have time to do all this every time I visit the gym." "Oh no, you will whizz through this."

Carotte · 24/09/2007 20:59

They are playing it on facebook.

I got held up today, Avi, did you eat all the kamut cake?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 24/09/2007 20:59

Oh I was the boot, of course.

Avi they are on Facebook

Carotte · 24/09/2007 20:59

I don't like the sound of the plank

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 24/09/2007 21:14

No it is not my chosen way to spend the evening. Being a plank.

lionheart · 24/09/2007 21:18

Is it as tortuous as it sounds?

Boco · 24/09/2007 21:27

I went to read with the children in dd1s class today, and when i got there, her teacher was away and TA in hospital, so the supply teacher asked if i'd help and take a group for writing. Which was fine, but i got the scarier half, the boys who wrestle and leap rather than the quiet girls who sit and write. It was quite fun though - after half an hour i was separating everyone.

It's such a religious school - does anyone else find that hard? They have these awful assemblies where they ramble on and on and on about god and jesus, but not in a meaningful way, the kids can't be listening, it's unlistenable.

Franny, why do you call Fithly 'FMF'? Is it on purpose? Whenever i read it i say 'fixen' to myself and ponder.

Oh yes sorry

I still think of FMF in old money, you see (FullMoonFiend was such a FAB name - what about the moon tonight eh? Eh?)

here is The Plank. Sorry it appears to be on a gun website. I have to do like she does for 2 minutes or something without coming down. And I don't even get to wear white legwarmers and matching hotpants while I'm doing it.

Boco · 24/09/2007 21:44

Oh that makes sense - i never knew her in old money.

I went to a school like this one too Avi, but as a grown up you listen to some of it and think oh dear. DD keeps coming home saying 'did jesus die for my sins?' and it's really hard to know what to say- as i'm not religious at all, but i don't want to tell her what i think as that'll be hard for her at school, but i don't really want to say 'yes that's it' either.

What you need to stick a gun in your knickers? I don't really think it will help Avi, even if you are desperate.

sorry at dreadful website, I could have looked further for a nice one, but didn't bother

FrannyandZooey · 24/09/2007 21:47

Oh no Franny won't

Franny has a big problem with religion in schools, it would make me seethe I'm afraid Boco

I think Avi has it right

ahundredtimes · 24/09/2007 21:52

I think you just sow the seed of scepticism Boco, in exactly the way Avi suggests. This is what I've done. Then they usually say 'do you believe Jesus died for our sins?' and I say, 'No I don't'. And they think about this.

Mine used to go to quite a religious school, but now we are at healthy free-thinkers school, so it doesn't come up as much.

I am watching the Ken Loach film on Channel 4. Is good but disturbing.

Boco · 24/09/2007 21:53

Yeah, that's kind of what i've been saying, but she's not having that really, she wants to know who is right and who is wrong and what I actually believe. I told her what i believe, and what people in her school believe and she said she'd rather believe that god made the world. Which is fine. Well i say that it's fine, but find it very hard.

Today they were talking about a baby being baptised and the teacher said that the baby had all its sins washed away by the holy water so that it could join God. And i knew dd would ask about the baby's sins, and she did.

womblingalong · 24/09/2007 21:55

FrayedKnot · 24/09/2007 21:58

Gosh Boco that does sound rather intense for an ordinary school.

Avi's advice sounds very sensible.
