For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

We have copious amounts of train set .

Thank you TooTicky. I am slightly destressing.

(DH's contribution to tidying was to move used alcoholic glass bottles from a place where no=one would see them to another place where no-one would see them. He was also being really grumpy this morning but has phoned to apologise so is forgiven ).

FrannyandZooey · 21/09/2007 11:32

3s and 4s like colouring, stickers and playdough IME

TooTicky · 21/09/2007 11:57

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Not colouring! My dcs have never been into it, but dd1 and ds1 used to enjoy setting me colouring tasks The tedium!!

Carotte · 21/09/2007 11:57

Toot!

There will be no feet in my Carraunderette thank you. I am a pediphobe. Only tongues and consciences please, definitely no bunions.

BBBee · 21/09/2007 11:57

train trackis a unisex and all age winner. It does them all - even my 7yr olf nad his mates will have a good time.

Paper and pens

decorating bsicuits

they just love stuff generally.

Carotte · 21/09/2007 12:06

Bricks too, everyone likes bricks, mine will all play with the duplo or building blocks still. It's fun.

My passports have gone. The man was friendlier than yesterdays lady so I shared with him. I think he was pleased when I left. Not least because I scoffed at the idea of adults enjoying Disneyland and he said he'd been to the one in Florida loads of times and really enjoyed it just a little bit huffily. Well, I said, of course if you close your eyes and squint a bit and see beyond the stage sets and mahoosive money pot then you might be swept along by the magic but I am an old cynic. He said he thought there was something there for everyone. I didn't say anything else.

TooTicky · 21/09/2007 12:07

Can I have some opinions please? We're in the middle of secondary school quandary.
There is a school which is academically excellent (entrance by exam, etc, which dd1 would love) BUT:
it is 25 miles away and would involve catching a bus before 7 am from a town 5 miles from here, and not returning to said town until nearly 6 pm, so a desperately long day.
BUT
the uniform involves kilts and ties and things which dd1 would adore
BUT
it is grls only which I am not so happy about
AND
it would be harder to socialise with school friends living so far away, although there may be some near here
ANYWAY
the uniform and bus fares are v. expensive
BUT
dd1 would love the kudos of being at the school

I think I am decided really, but would she be missing out if I don't even mention it to her?
Thank you

TooTicky · 21/09/2007 12:08

I don't have bunions

TooTicky · 21/09/2007 12:09

at you and your disney man

IdrisTheDragon · 21/09/2007 12:12

TooTicky I only has a nearly 4 year old and 2 year old but I think that sounds a really long day for your DD. When I am working in the office, I have to leave here before 6:30 and get back about 6 and I am worn out. And being in an office I don't have to be active all the time. And also don't have to do it 5 days a week.

Are there any other schools nearer which would be a good alternative?

TooTicky · 21/09/2007 12:14

Yes, there is one v. good one but we are just out of catchment so a chance she will not get in. Others are really huge.

IdrisTheDragon · 21/09/2007 12:18

Thank you everyone for things to play with thoughts.

I feel a bit daft as I do have a 3.10 year old who obviously does things. But it is easier when it is your own children rather than other ones .

There is a group of 9 people who have children within a 6 month range of DS (ie ranging from just 4 to 3.5) and 8 of them also have second children. Every Friday afternoon we meet at someone's house. This party is really just that, although there will be a birthday cake . And presents I suppose, although will try and delay until later as DS is having slight problems with coping with DD and lots of presents.

I don't often host the gatherings as I get all worried about it. At most houses when it is dry the children play outside, but we seem to be the only ones lacking a slide, swings etc.

I have moved the train track and duplo and cars and garage into DS's (large) room. I am sure some will migrate up there. DD's dolls house is taking up lots of space down here .

There will be no play-dough. I am allergic to it. Well not really, but the thought of up to 17 children playing with it scares me . And it is not that I am house proud - I just can't get on with it. Natrurally, DD will be given loads now .

The jellies are setting I think. The house is lookign better. And DD is excited about wearing a "pretty dress" .

Carotte · 21/09/2007 12:20

Is this instead of HE, Toot?

Carotte · 21/09/2007 12:20

Good luck with it, Idris, I'm sure it will be fine.

TooTicky · 21/09/2007 12:23

Good luck Idris!

It's for next year MrsC. Applications have to be in by 15th Oct, but some schools haven't had their open evenings yet!

BBBee · 21/09/2007 12:36

toot I think the kilt school you know. I think that is different to you and everyone else but there was a kind of glow in the words you use.

idris - I already pronounce your party a sucess!

BBBee · 21/09/2007 12:37

I had that tuna salad I had yesterday but without the chick peas. capers are the best thing ever I love them.

um, this galaxy I have here is, um , medicinal.

Carotte · 21/09/2007 12:39

Hmm, that's tricky isn't it, sounds like a very long day but one that she might manage if she loves the school. You need to visit there really don't you or have you already.

I just received a prospectus for Bedales school in Hampshire. They have a great focus on arts and creativity, make their own bread, look after sheep etc. I thought on the website it was £8000 a year but it's actually per term. Doesn't really matter how good it is then does it at that price.

TooTicky · 21/09/2007 12:41

£8000 per term?

BBB, there's a part of me that feels like that, but the rest of me is trying to be practical. I don't know.

Carotte · 21/09/2007 12:44

I agree with BBB. From your post I want MissToot to go there.

lionheart · 21/09/2007 12:51

Bedales is expensive but prides itself on being liberal and arty, doesn't it?

TooT: FLEAS! How very dare ....

What are the alternatives to that school TooT?

Tatties, I love that eek sign thingy.

Carotte, I would be deeply ambivalent about the Disney venture too but would probably try to travel optimistically.

Oops.

Boco · 21/09/2007 12:54

Toot that's so hard, i think i would be put off by such a long day. The first secondary school i went to i had an hour coach journey each way, i spent a lot of my time feeling exhausted and dazed. [much like now] The second school was 2 minutes down the road and it was amazing suddenly having an extra 2 hours a day. Was happier - although obviously other factors.

I don't have a kidney infection at all, i was tired and premenstual and neurotic. Just needed to go to bed.

BBBee · 21/09/2007 12:54

lionheart - concerntrate!
