Feels like something is stuck in my throat

Help? I'm really fed up now. It's been 4 weeks of feeling like this. Literally feels like something is stuck in my throat. I tend to need to burp slot. I've been treated for acid reflux and it's still here and driving me mad. And to be honest really starting to worry me. Could it be hayfever? Though piriton is having no affect on me either. I've never had hayfever before but I have no other symptoms if it is.

Any tips or advice?

Thanks in advance

@LittleMissRainbow hi I also had severe thrush candiida in my esophagus I was diagnosed two years ago and was given anti fungal medication to take for two weeks .
I was told it could keep coming back and I'm sure it's back again now 😣 but don't want to take the anti fungal medication again as I heard it's very hard on the liver.
Have you been given anything to treat the thrush? It's horrible isn't it!
Also suffer from acid reflux particularly at nighttime.

kissmelittleass · 18/11/2020 12:32

@LittleMissRainbow apologies I just see you were given fluconazole for the thrush!

LittleMissRainbow · 18/11/2020 12:43

@kissmelittleass
Hi, sorry to hear you’ve been suffering.
I’ve never had thrush in my life. This is the first time.
Funnily enough I have no problems with acid reflux at night. Mine is only during the day so the consultant thinks it’s stress related. Apart from the medication and reducing stress I was given instructions on what not to eat but I’ve already given up most of the stuff.
The main things he went on about was smoking, drinking alcohol and coffee.
I never smoked, can’t stand alcohol and I gave up coffee in April.

Meredith99 · 18/11/2020 14:15

I’ve been referred to ENT but it’s a 36 week wait ☹️

LittleMissRainbow · 18/11/2020 14:37

@Meredith99
I’m sorry you have to wait so long.
I was told by my GP the waiting list where I live was 14 months. One of his excuses not to refer me.
They apparently need to clear the backlog.

kissmelittleass · 18/11/2020 20:29

@LittleMissRainbow Hi, I'd never had thrush either until I was told it was in my throat! I don't smoke or drink coffee but I would drink alcohol every now and then but only ever one drink when I do!
My doctor said steroid inhalers can be a cause of it and I have asthma but very mild asthma so only occasionally use the inhalers. When I do use them now I rinse my mouth out after or drink some water.
The other cause I read was antibiotics and I suppose I would of had a fair view from a child until now!

That’s interesting because I’d been taking lansoprazole for 3 months when I went private and he told me that lansoprazole was useless with LPR. To be honest though I didn’t find the esomprazole did much either, haven’t tried omeprazole so can’t comment on that one. It’s so frustrating when you get conflicting advice from those who are suppose to be the experts. I just take gaviscon advance now before bed and that seems to stop any flare ups.

LittleMissRainbow · 19/11/2020 12:09

@Proudnana3
I think after the consultants know what we’ve had they just prescribe whatever else is left and rubbish everything else. I tried everything available from the pharmacy during the summer including nexium which contains esomeprazole and nothing helped me at all.
But I think my main problem has been severe thrush in the throat which GP never even suggested as a possible cause to me. I only had phone consultations with GP so no one actually looked in my throat for 8 months.
I just wish I would have gone privately sooner but it’s so expensive.

Proudnana3 · 19/11/2020 12:27

I think you are right , like they have to justify their fee. It’s bad that you’re gp wouldn’t see you. Mine did but it was the camera that I needed and obviously he couldn’t do that. It’s cost me over £2000 during this pandemic to be seen privately for different Heath problems as referrals on the nhs have been taking so long. I’ve now taken out insurance as it just seems to be one thing after another with me at the moment but not sure they will cover me for existing issues yet, waiting for them to hear back from my doctor to decide. Hopefully as it’s all been treatable they may do.
I was also told my acid reflux was stress related as no changes in my diet made any difference and god knows I tried. Now I just do everything in moderation, apart from the stress, can’t seem to curb that.

Meredith99 · 19/11/2020 13:21

I’ve just phoned my nearest private hospital and they have told me the initial consultation is £200 but will be over the phone. I just want someone to have a look 😞

Can I ask those that had the camera, does it need to go all the way down to the stomach? My problem is just in my throat where you can see

Proudnana3 · 19/11/2020 13:44

Can you try a different hospital, can’t understand why some will do face to face but others won’t, although I’m sure once you have spoken to them on the phone they will agree to see you for the camera. My initial nhs appointment was over the phone and he did say he would see me but the wait on the nhs was just too long. No it doesn’t go into the stomach that’s a different procedure it just goes up you’re nose to the back of you’re throat. It’s really not that bad at all, I was surprised how quick and easy it was.

LittleMissRainbow · 19/11/2020 14:07

It’s just so difficult these days. I was going to say the same, can you try somewhere else.
I booked an appointment online with BMI healthcare ENT consultant. They didn’t even request a GP referral which was good because I’m not sure I’d get one.
I also had camera up nose and it wasn’t that bad.

Meredith99 · 19/11/2020 14:28

Ok thanks both. Is the camera up the nose still called an endoscopy? But I assume it’s easier as in you don’t go in as a day case? Wish I could get one off Amazon and have a look myself 😀

LittleMissRainbow · 19/11/2020 14:46

I think yes it’s called nasal endoscopy.
My appointment took about an hour including discussing all my medical history, symptoms and camera up the nose into the throat.
The way it’s done they spray something inside your nostrils to numb it before they put camera inside. Honestly for me the spray was worse than the actual camera but I can’t stand any kind of nose sprays.

Meredith99 · 19/11/2020 14:56

Sorry for all the questions but was the nasal camera part of your initial consultation or did you go back for it?

LittleMissRainbow · 19/11/2020 15:31

I don’t mind you asking. I didn’t have to go back it was all done at the same time but it was costed separately.
My initial consultation was 20mins for £225 then I was told what examination I needed and I was asked whether I wanted to come back or have it done there and then.
I had it done straightaway but it might depend on consultant’s time.
It came to £530 altogether, very expensive but I was desperate.

SpideyMom · 22/11/2020 22:52

This shit is honestly ruining my life. Today anything I've ate or drank has felt like its closed up my throat. Its been unbearable. Thank god I have my gastroscopy on Friday. Reading the comments about the wait times I feel extremely lucky to have only been waiting since September which was when the consultant agreed it would be the next step. Ive had this since March though and had the nasal camera in June, and its got much worse since then. Not to mention all the battles with my GP to take me seriously. On Friday I was doubled up in pain. My throat felt like it was closing, it felt like my chest was being stamped on and I got the strangest swelling between my belly button and sternum. I very rarely used to get pain but now it is more common. But today it has felt like my throat has been part closed all day. And when I swallow its like there's no saliva there.

Honestly its ruining my life.

@SpideyMom I am sorry you are having such a hard time with this. I hope your gastroscopy gives you some answers. It's so hard to live with daily constant pain. I have had similar pain on the upper right side consistently since March with my GP suggesting IBS, endometriosis, appenticitis and gall stones. I had no luck with my GP, so went private and have had all endo come back as clear as well as bloods, ultrasound and MRI. I'm now seeing a gastro who has put me on esomeprazole, which has alleviated my pain. However, I seem to get the lumpy throat once I take the daily tablet. It subsides once I eat but can be uncomfortable. I have had H.Pylori test - awaiting results and I am having an ultrasound to check again for gallstones and possible gastric hernia (!). I have not had any other sickness with the pain but it has been quite debilitating at times and has a significant impact on daily life. I have started taking turmeric and avoiding ibuprofen (in case it's an ulcer), but not knowing what it is along side the continuing pain really is a drag and can get to you. Please update on your progress as I know that I rely on reading others' experiences and outcomes to try and identify my own issues. I wish you all the best for Friday and hope there's a simple solution.

Runningdownthathill · 24/11/2020 14:43

I had this for ages. I found eating bread was the issue. Try cutting out bread and oatcakes and see if it helps. Carbs generally seem to be an issue.

SpideyMom · 24/11/2020 20:57

I will, of course. It's making me so miserable though. I am so scared about the procedure but desperately want some answers. I cant describe the sensation accurately. Its not always accompanied with pain, but its like something is trapped and I have an incredibly dry throat. I swallow and its like nothing is attached. I constantly need to burp but they are stuck. Its like I have a massive balloon in my chest full of trapped air. But when I swallow its making me feel really nauseous. The pain i get is between my sternum and belly button.

I really hope I get some answers on Friday but im starting to worry about being told something is serious. This has definitely got worse since June.

I will keep in mind carbs, but it honestly feels like no matter what I eat and drink its making it worse

I honestly think now im just going to see how I go with just water. The feeling is unbearable tonight. It feels like something is lodged in the middle of my chest
