Feels like something is stuck in my throat

Help? I'm really fed up now. It's been 4 weeks of feeling like this. Literally feels like something is stuck in my throat. I tend to need to burp slot. I've been treated for acid reflux and it's still here and driving me mad. And to be honest really starting to worry me. Could it be hayfever? Though piriton is having no affect on me either. I've never had hayfever before but I have no other symptoms if it is.

Any tips or advice?

Thanks in advance

Had my ENT appointment, had to go private due to the huge NHS waiting list. He gave me a thorough examination, checked neck, ears, nose mouth, throat. Said I don’t have any signs of reflux and to stop the Lansoprazole, couldn’t see any lumps so diagnosed Globus, which is what I was hoping for. He gave me a steroid nose spray to use instead of my steroid asthma inhaler which he thinks could be helpful

SpideyMom · 25/11/2020 09:35

Just off the phone with my GP. He went through my medical record and made me feel like I am a hypochondriac to be honest, and said it was my anxiety. At which point I burst into tears and said I dont like being made to feel this is all in my head when it feels very real for me. I am being sent for a chest xray as I have a deep pressure in the centre of my chest and he is also arranging an ECG as he said 'do you think its your heart now'. No, I have no idea what it is, I just know how I am feeling is not normal.
My DS is starting to notice I am always feeling ill lately and his getting really upset which is making me feel sad.
When this all started back in March I was reassured it would go away. For it to still be here, and getting worse it does frighten me

@Meredith99 how are you feeling now?

Still the same, the lump is still there. I feel better knowing my throat has been looked at and no actual lump is a relief and good to get off the tablets. We shall see. I’ll still keep my NHS appointment anyway. Hope you get some relief soon. The nasal spray burns my throat so not sure how long I’ll take it for

Honestly, it does sound very much like some of the symptoms I had with HPylori. The inflammation in my oesophagus was so bad I was getting severe spasm, which was so painful I couldn't move. Do check that they will take samples for testing.

Pinkbubbles12 · 25/11/2020 19:34

I've just read the full thread, i also habe anxiety and im sick of everytime i do have something wrong they put it down to that.
I suffered with bad stomach for years to be told anxiety qnd them keep offering my counselling.. i went private in the end and sorted it straight away.

Anyway this sounds sooooo much like that my mum had a couple of years ago and it turned out after putting a camera down it was hiatus hernia, it can range from mild to bad. It is nothing to worry about health wise and can be easily sorted so i hopw it is as simple as that

Runningdownthathill · 25/11/2020 21:24

@Pinkbubbles12

Do you mind me asking what the cause was
of the bad stomach? I ask because I know someone who has a similar problem and has had no success getting a diagnosis.

SpideyMom · 25/11/2020 22:45

I've been told my symptoms sound like a hiatus hernia. I know its silly to wish this, but I hope they find the cause on Friday and that's its treatable.

Forgot to add, the doctor has put me on Esomeprazole but I wont be starting them until after Friday.

Im lay on my bed now and I have sharp pains deep in my chest. I hate feeling so shit

Oh god im not going to lie, I am f*in terrified. Thought I'd YouTube gastroscopy and found a video of a lads experience without sedation and then with (as the first one failed). I want sedation but have no one to take me or collect me. Im crapping myself

@SpideyMom I had a gastrotropy for the first time in June. I promise it wasn't that bad. It makes you retch but nothing comes out...and it really does only take 2mins or even less. They'll give you oxygen and you focus on your breathing and it's over so quickly. You can do it!

Quillink · 26/11/2020 19:21

Best of luck tomorrow. I hope that you get a diagnosis Flowers

SpideyMom · 26/11/2020 19:47

Thank you both. Its the fear of the unknown isnt it. And also feeling like im already choking im scared it will just add to it.

I called the ward and spoke to a lovely nurse. Sedation is out the window anyway for me due to circumstances but she was so nice. She gave me the details of the nurse doing it for me and said she's really lovely so not to worry. I've just got to get it over with haven't I.

I've had a sigmoidoscopy before and absolutely hated that when they pumped air into me. I went into a real panic that I was going to mess myself (sorry tmi). I know tomorrow is from the other end but am so scared on not being able to stop being sick.

All fears aside, I just want some answers. Im burping for England but most are trapped

@SpideyMom try not to be scared of being sick. I think they have a nurse with suction like at the dentist and you never actually feel any bile in your mouth. If you feel like retching go with it...it will be more comfortable.

I also had a colonoscopy for the first time this year and even with sedation found it very, very hard going. The gastrotophy was a breeze by comparison. And even if uncomfortable it is over so quickly.

I actually didn't get a diagnosis...and am now of the view I've had long covid. But mine has got better, not perfect...but a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar every day (with the mother in it) and gaviscon advance before bed every night plus lots and lots of water in the day and I'm okay...the long covid fatigue and joint pain is another matter Angry

givemeanother · 26/11/2020 20:20

I do however hope you get an easy fix diagnosis! I was very stressed after my non-diagnosis but all okay in the end.

SpideyMom · 26/11/2020 20:52

I've wondered about long term covid too.

Sorry you didn't get a diagnosis.

I know a sigmoidoscopy isn't as invasive as a colonoscopy but honest I found it awful. It was over fast but those last 2 minutes of being filled with gas I will never forget the panic I felt. If tomorrow isn't as bad as that them I'll be fine.

Just pray its over fast for me lol

Hiatus hernia is a possibility.
Hope you get swift results from the gastroscopy.

Best of luck for tomorrow, really hope you get some answers

whatistheworld · 26/11/2020 21:38

this is exactly me and it started in April and still have it now. tried all sorts of medicines but nothing works. I am interested to hear how you get on. Good luck xx

Just had a nasoendoscopy for the exact same thing. I've had it since May 2nd when I had suspected covid followed swiftly by glandular fever. Have been diagnosed with what is essentially acid reflux. Praying stronger treatment works (already tried similar approach before but not as strong) because it's so exhausting feeling like you're fighting it every day. Good luck op, keep us updated! Thanks

KindnessCrusader · 26/11/2020 22:24

@LittleMissRainbow do you feel any better with the meds they prescribed?

SpideyMom · 26/11/2020 22:36

Sorry to ask @KindnessCrusader but its the nasal endoscopy the one where they go as far as the throat only? If so ive had that one. My symptoms have progressed since then into my chest and upper stomach.
I've literally had enough. Im lay on my bed currently feeling like im choking on air that can't be shifted. It is the most horrendous feeling to have gone on for this long.
Lansoperazole and omperazole have dont nothing for me. Been given esomperazole now but will start that after the procedure tomorrow.

Im praying its like the nasal camera as that didn't bother me at all. But somehow I think its going to be worse

LittleMissRainbow · 26/11/2020 22:38

I noticed some people mentioned long covid.
It was suggested to me too by ENT. My issue started on 11March with a sore throat and not being able to taste anything but at the time it’s wasn’t recognised as covid symptom. It lasted around 2 weeks and then it continued as a feeling of a lump in my throat which I have till now.
