Feels like something is stuck in my throat

Help? I'm really fed up now. It's been 4 weeks of feeling like this. Literally feels like something is stuck in my throat. I tend to need to burp slot. I've been treated for acid reflux and it's still here and driving me mad. And to be honest really starting to worry me. Could it be hayfever? Though piriton is having no affect on me either. I've never had hayfever before but I have no other symptoms if it is.

Any tips or advice?

Thanks in advance

@Meredith99

I have just found this thread and have her exact same thing. It started beginning of September and feels like something is stuck in my throat. I can feel it all the time but can eat and drink ok. It took me 8 weeks of phone calls to get a GP to see me, who referred me to ENT. They are doing phone consultations only. Had that yesterday. She told me I need a camera down my throat but warned me there is a huge waiting list. Has anyone found relief from this? Even if temporary? I’m on Lansoprazole. They are not helping but GP told me to carry on taking them. Why have so many people suddenly got this??? Thank you for any replies
I had this too in July and August.. it felt like there was constantly something stuck in my throat for around six weeks. Certain times of the day it would not be as bad but would always be there. I was quite worried because my dad died from cancer of the esophagus, I had a phone consultation with the doctor who prescribed lansoprazole, I never actually took it but the symptoms just suddenly disappeared on there own. it was a horrible feeling.
Meredith99 · 11/11/2020 17:51

That’s good your symptoms have gone. A relative of mine also died from cancer of the esophogus. His first symptoms were similar to mine which makes me worry. But I know I’m not alone in not being seen by doctors with covid going on

Meredith99 · 11/11/2020 17:52

Should I carry on taking lansoprazole if I’m not seeing an improvement? I’ve been taking it for 5 weeks. Has this helped anyone?

Immaback · 11/11/2020 17:57

Hello. I’m sorry to hear of this suffering .
I haven’t read back through all the posts but has anyone suggested or mentioned something called a pharyngeal pouch? This is usually found in older people So it’s unlikely but some of the symptoms matchbuon
Or a small goitre ?

Immaback · 11/11/2020 17:58

Symptoms match *

LittleMissRainbow · 11/11/2020 18:24

I’ve already had private blood tests and private ultrasound.
My GP is useless.
I’ve been on omeprazole since July and it does nothing but I keep getting told to take it along with gaviscon advance.
I’m sorry so many of you are suffering with this problem.

JacobReesMogadishu · 11/11/2020 19:57

@SpideyMom

Have you heard of EOE and had this ruled out? Sorry, not read all the recent posts but I read your post ages ago, saw it still in active today and thought how awful it was that this is still ongoing. Then bizarrely saw a tiktok video just nkw with stone with your symptoms and this is what she has.

@Meredith99 my GP said it was reassuring that it comes and goes and that eating and drinking is not a problem. I think with cancer it is usually more apparent and causes more problems when eating? I'm worried too - I'm in the same position as you

Meredith99 · 12/11/2020 07:14

Thank you. I have to say mine has never gone at all but I can eat and drink ok

Proudnana3 · 12/11/2020 11:31

I ended up paying and going private, had camera twice which just showed inflammation due to silent reflux, unfortunately gps will just do a tick list and if there are no red flags you won’t be seen at the moment. Funny thing is before I went private back in July i was referred on the nhs and I still haven’t had that appointment through. I have since had other health issues and have paid to go private with those too as I was getting nowhere with the gps that I spoke to. Has cost me a small fortune having different tests and mri but to be honest worth every penny to get answers and reassurance. My throat symptoms have still not totally resolved but I now know it is nothing sinister and I don’t think about it like I use to so it doesn’t seem as bad. I was given esomaprazole and gaviscon advance and told it’s the only one’s that works for the throat after 3 months of lansoprazole prescribed by gp. I now only use gaviscon advance 4 times daily and that seems to be enough. It’s a terrible time to have health issues, I even ended up at a&e after going to the walk in centre after couldn’t get seen by gp and they were shocked that my go hadn’t seen me based on my symptoms. To be honest though even they wrongly diagnosed me so still ended up going private a week later. We shouldn’t have to but it seems the only way at present times.

Proudnana3 · 12/11/2020 12:18

Meredith99

I also looked at private but with a consultation before and after is is £3000

Just wanted to add my initial consultation and camera down the throat was approx £475.00 at Nuffield bupa. Like I said though worth every penny to get reassurance and answers but do understand it’s not an option for everyone and it shouldn’t have to be when we have the nhs but unfortunately so many of us seem to be getting let down by the system currently in place due to the pandemic.

LittleMissRainbow · 12/11/2020 12:19

@Proudnana3
Hi, I’m now looking into private too.
I agree with you it’s impossible to get seen.
I’ve been suffering since March and during the first lockdown my surgery was completely shut and was telling people to go to A&E or call 111.
I couldn’t get a phone consultation until July.
Been on omeprazole and gaviscon advance since then. It does nothing for me.
May I please ask you how you found a private ENT and how much did you pay?
Thank you so much and I wish you well

LittleMissRainbow · 12/11/2020 12:20

@Proudnana3
Sorry posted at the same time as you

Proudnana3 · 12/11/2020 12:31

LittleMissRainbow
I searched ent consultants near me and then just rang direct and made an appointment, I then rang my gp have them the details and told them to forward my notes to him. It was a totally different experience and felt totally reassured. I did the same with my other issues which have been more ongoing but have just had all my results back and the relief of knowing it’s not life threatening and treatable is amazing. I too had been suffering since March.

LittleMissRainbow · 12/11/2020 12:39

@Proudnana3
Thank you for your reply
I feel for you it’s horrible suffering for so long.
I was also told by GP it could be B12 or iron deficiency but would they test me for it, the answer was no. Absolute shambles. I had to get tested privately.
I haven’t even been to GP for 15 years and when I need them they can’t help.

Proudnana3 · 12/11/2020 12:56

That is what they said to me low iron because it was on the low side but consultant said low iron wouldn’t cause you’re symptoms. He said all gp’s will prescribe lansoprazole or omsoprazole but it’s not going to help with throat symptoms, great for heartburn but not lpr which mine was. Hope you feel better soon.

LittleMissRainbow · 12/11/2020 13:06

@Proudnana3
Thank you
You too

Hi everyone,
If anyone’s interested in my diagnosis I’ve had private ENT appointment and they put camera up my noise. The consultant was really concerned that GP refused to refer since my symptoms been going on for 8 months.
I have LPR and severe thrush in my throat.
I was told these two problems often come together. I was given lansoprazole and fluconazole. I was told omeprazole was useless for LPR.
I wish you all well
