Feels like something is stuck in my throat

Help? I'm really fed up now. It's been 4 weeks of feeling like this. Literally feels like something is stuck in my throat. I tend to need to burp slot. I've been treated for acid reflux and it's still here and driving me mad. And to be honest really starting to worry me. Could it be hayfever? Though piriton is having no affect on me either. I've never had hayfever before but I have no other symptoms if it is.

Any tips or advice?

Thanks in advance

Have you heard of cricopharyngeal spasm? Sorry if I've missed it's mention on this thread Thanks

Asterope · 29/10/2020 15:26

Just supporting. I'm struggling with it too, it's awful and it's frightening. And hard to get it investigated! Thanks

SpideyMom · 29/10/2020 15:43

I havent. I will read up on that too. I really am so grateful for all the suggestions. I know we shouldn't, but after battling so hard to get seen by specialists you can't help but end up asking others for advice, experiences and find yourself googling.

Its really is horrible isnt it @Asterope. There's so many people now on this thread experiencing similar for long periods. I feel for you all. I agree it is frightening. Every night it gets really bad. Like it feels like the throat has become disconnected as when I swallow it feels like a void. I cant work out if my throat is incredibly dry (no amount of fluid has helped) but when I go to swallow I have to stop myself from choking. Almost takes my breath away. However with mine I don't get the sensation to need to clear my throat. I know others do. Im swallowing as I type to try and find the words to explain how it feels but I find it impossible to describe. I swallow and its like it reachew a closed door and stops. (However I am able to eat still)

OP posts:
Asterope · 29/10/2020 15:48

@SpideyMom mine is the same. If I swallow it feels like it's closed but I can eat and drink no problem. In fact, I've been eating more for some relief from it

SpideyMom · 29/10/2020 16:24

Yes I've found that too. Also getting me down as food makes me feel normal with it. But I cant keep going to eat just to make me feel like my throat is normal

OP posts:
SpideyMom · 02/11/2020 00:36

I want to cry with it. Its ruining my life

LittleMissRainbow · 02/11/2020 17:40

Hi,
I’ve found this thread by searching on the net.
Strangely I’ve had the exactly same thing since March.
Constant feeling of a lump in my throat.
I got told probably acid reflux by GP over the phone and I was prescribed omeprazole but it never worked.
I don’t drink alcohol and I never smoked.
I eat bland diet but my ‘lump’ never goes away.
Please let me know if anyone finds solution for this problem.
Thanks

SpideyMom · 02/11/2020 20:53

@LittleMissRainbow you sound very similar to me. Im still trying to find an answer. So many, and I really mean this, so many people are suffering very similar symptoms. Its horrendous

Does relaxation ease it @SpideyMom ? Have you tried sniffing smelling salts?

SpideyMom · 03/11/2020 07:52

No I haven't tried them

Im so bloody miserable. If only I can explain how it feels tonight. Its like I have a balloon of trapped air stuck in the bottom of my throat. No amount of burping (sorry) is shifting it. I also have like this ball of pressure above my belly button area and and weird as this will sound it feels like tey are connected by a bloody hair (you know the horrible feeling you get when a hair is in your mouth, well that but from throat right into stomach. Its making me feel sick.

greenspacesoverthere · 04/11/2020 22:11

Did the docs check you for Hiatus hernia?

SpideyMom · 04/11/2020 23:34

No they've been unwilling to do anything since June when I has the camera up my nose and down. I finally have the camera into my stomach in two weeks time. Im scared but desperately want it done as its genuinely scaring me how long this has gone on for

ChestnutSquash · 04/11/2020 23:53

Sorry if I missed it, but presumably you have had H. Pylori screening?
I had H. Pylori and the pain was horrendous. From my throat to my bottom. The inflammation causes problems right through your gut.
It is treatable but it takes 3 or 4 different meds for up to 3 weeks. Omeprazole makes it worse.
The other thing that occurred to me is a bit bizarre, but dh read something weeks ago about a woman who got a worm from eating raw fish. Sorry to mention that, but it can happen.
I feel so sorry for you, it sounds miserable.

SpideyMom · 05/11/2020 09:58

I've been screened for nothing since the first camera said there was no lump. The only reason i've got the camera into my stomach as I demanded it and said I cant live like this any longer as it's ruining my life.

I am lucky in the sense I have pain, bad at times, but mostly just uncomfortable, and not all the time. This feeling in my throat though is constant and my tummy pressure seems to be more present now too

Phone your gp and ssk if an H. Pylori test was ever done. Usually it is done during a gastroscopy but it sounds as if the first camera procedure didn't go far enough down.
Your gp can send off a stool sample and the results come back quickly.
Your local private hospital can do one for you, but it costs about £50.
I would have thought it would be a standard test through your gp, with your symptoms.

ChestnutSquash · 05/11/2020 10:59

There is a breath test available now but I don't know much about that. I had the stool test. I had the gastroscopy after the treatment. Even though the bacteria was gone, I had extensive erosive inflammation that took a long time to heal.

givemeanother · 05/11/2020 18:44

@SpideyMom is there any chance you had covid in March? Not that this would help you with treatment but there are a lot of long covid sufferers with acid reflux that has gone on for months - similar symptoms to yours that came out of no where (I'm one of them!)

SpideyMom · 06/11/2020 09:54

Its funny you should say that as I have wondered this too. Ive heard of a few cases of long term suffering following the virus. I dont think I will ever find out will I, but earlier in the year, Feb into March I was really really poorly. I thought it was just a really horrific cold but ever since then I've always said I've never got back to normal

OP posts:
givemeanother · 06/11/2020 10:26

It's a possibility then. It might mean that there is nothing sinister going on, and it's just time and reducing inflammation that might cure it. I don't know if that's helpful or not - for me some days it is, and for others I'm very frustrated!

My long covid symptoms have predominantly been acid reflux - mainly constant sternum pain, and throat clogginess. Best thing for me has been apple cider vinegar - put a tablespoon in a hot drink in the morning. Probiotics may also help...omeprazole did nothing for me.

Meredith99 · 11/11/2020 15:59

I have just found this thread and have her exact same thing. It started beginning of September and feels like something is stuck in my throat. I can feel it all the time but can eat and drink ok. It took me 8 weeks of phone calls to get a GP to see me, who referred me to ENT. They are doing phone consultations only. Had that yesterday. She told me I need a camera down my throat but warned me there is a huge waiting list. Has anyone found relief from this? Even if temporary? I’m on Lansoprazole. They are not helping but GP told me to carry on taking them. Why have so many people suddenly got this??? Thank you for any replies

LittleMissRainbow · 11/11/2020 17:00

Hi
Can I please ask how are you all managing to get seen by GP and getting referred to ENT?
My GP does phone consultations only and is refusing to refer me because i don’t fit the criteria for a referral.
I’m now looking into paying privately as I have no choice.
I’ve been suffering with this since 11th of March and I’m getting fed up.

Meredith99 · 11/11/2020 17:41

I had the symptoms for 8 weeks and was only offered phone consultations then finally a GP agreed to see me. She said she doesn’t think it’s cancer but it could be so would fast track me an appt. I got one two weeks later which was then cancelled due to lockdown so had another phone consultation instead. I was then told by ENT she doesn’t think it’s cancer but only way to be sure is to have a camera test but has taken me off the urgent list and warned me the waiting list is huge, so looking at quite a few months

Meredith99 · 11/11/2020 17:42

I also looked at private but with a consultation before and after is is £3000
