Feels like something is stuck in my throat

Help? I'm really fed up now. It's been 4 weeks of feeling like this. Literally feels like something is stuck in my throat. I tend to need to burp slot. I've been treated for acid reflux and it's still here and driving me mad. And to be honest really starting to worry me. Could it be hayfever? Though piriton is having no affect on me either. I've never had hayfever before but I have no other symptoms if it is.

Any tips or advice?

Thanks in advance

Sorry you are still suffering. I expect it will be a fairly long wait for your endoscopy at the moment depending on where you live. I'd ask your GP to do a HP stool or breath sample in the meantime? It could also be worth looking into your diet more. I'm feeling a bit better now that I've gone super bland with what I eat (I'm living on chips and avocado!), there are healthy low acid diets you can try too.

Hi I had a gastroscopy yesterday, less then two weeks from refferal

Do you have any thing that can put you on the two week pathway
I feel something is stuck in my throat too but they didn't see anything at all and I'm even more confused

Nat6999 · 29/08/2020 12:51

I had this, I was continuously going to the doctors with a hoarse voice & sore throat, I was referred under two week wait to ENT. At the hospital the consultant put a camera up my nose & down my throat, it was acid reflux, I am now permanently on Omeprazole to stop it.

SpideyMom · 29/08/2020 13:28

He is sending me down the 2 week pathway as ive lost about a stone and am being sick.

May I ask was it horrible?

OP posts:
NoSauce · 29/08/2020 14:32

Have you had the camera a short while ago OP?

cultkid · 29/08/2020 14:53

@SpideyMom
I had the same experience, they didn't find anything
And the pain is horrendous in my chest and under my arms
I've started taking Sillica Colloid gel you can get it in boots and Holland and Barrett
It's helped with the feeling of something being stuck in my throat and the pain

The scope wasn't nice. They weren't as nice in recovery as I hoped but the team in the room an also in the prep bit were kind.
I had sedation. However as like you I have been vomiting a lot I was literally wretching in the waiting room and I was wretchign afterwards as well in recovery. The scope wasn't my favorite.
Having it in was not amazing but not awful. It's when they started to progress it down I was retching so much that they had to stop, so I didn't have anyone look into the top of my intestine which has annoyed me. I don't know why they didn't sedate me some more.
I think had the nausea not been such an issue for me I would have coped better

Have the hospital called you yet with your appointment? Are you taking a PPI? I struggled so much without mine for the week before it.
Despite being told here it's old advice and no longer relevant that you have to stop taking it, I was asked multiple times before they did the procedure if I had indeed stopped the omeparazole

Lots of love xxx

OP, I should have mentioned, person being tested for HP needs to be off Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPI) (e.g. Pantoprazole, Omeprazole, Esomeprazole), and any Probiotics for two weeks prior to hp testing, to get an accurate result.

This applies to the UBT/breath, SAT/stool, and EGD/Endoscopy. Although PPIs do not have an effect on a blood test, you must remember that a blood test cannot distinguish between an active infection versus a past one (antibodies).

I've been off everything now for a good few weeks.

Its agony tonight

I've got a gp appointment on Tuesday. I've been having some weird swallowing thing where sometimes food seems to go upwards instead of downwards and gets stuck in my nasopharynx. With reflux as well it's getting pretty annoying. However, the heartburn and globus have been slightly better since heavily modifying my diet. I'm not taking any meds now as I felt it was all making me feel worse.
Hoping for a referral and some tests of some sort. I suspect either hiatus hernia or maybe h pylori. I also have TMJ and pretty sure that can affect next muscles.

OhWhatAPalaver · 30/08/2020 19:17

Neck muscles*

Really sorry you’re still suffering and from the sounds of it getting worse. Hopefully you will get some answers when you go back for the camera. I’m still getting the feeling of post nasal drip and dryness on occasion but it’s not unbearable, I’ve brought the acid watchers diet and only drink water at the moment to see if that helps, it’s not easy though but will give it 4 weeks at least to see if it clears. I still think I’ve just become over sensitive to my throat sensations though.

One thing about the acid watchers book though is if you suffer with health anxiety probably not a good read as it bangs on about acid reflux and cancer risks increasing. Didn’t find that helpful at all.

This one spidey, it's ok to take it before scope. Really helped me,

Can you also take some phenergan for the vomiting xxx

I know how shit it is

cultkid · 31/08/2020 16:26

Also Apple cider vinegar helped me but not recently

Only historically with heart burn but I wouldn't say I feel like I have heart burn at the moment

It feels like a heart attack with bread stuck in my throat

SpideyMom · 01/09/2020 00:41

I can see loads of crap in my throat. Im trying to cough it up but its so thick its disgusting.

It feels like my throat is coated in like fur. And like I have a hair literally the length of my throat to my stomach.

I've never really dealt with the pain side until lately and my god its awful. I hate eating now because everything is setting it off

Proudnana3 · 01/09/2020 06:50

Has you’re gp looked at you’re throat?

copperoliver · 01/09/2020 06:52

What refux tablets have you got. ? X

copperoliver · 01/09/2020 06:54

I was given lansoprazole they didn't work so me and they changed me to omoprezole they work well. Maybe ask for a change. X

SpideyMom · 01/09/2020 09:08

Im no longer on reflux medication. It didn't work from April til August so they stopped. I was given lansoperazole and omperazole and also tried Gaviscon Advance.
I've been free of medication most of august. Sorry bar the treatment for oral thrush which has done nothing.

Im really at a loss

OP posts:
cultkid · 01/09/2020 09:50
