Feels like something is stuck in my throat

Help? I'm really fed up now. It's been 4 weeks of feeling like this. Literally feels like something is stuck in my throat. I tend to need to burp slot. I've been treated for acid reflux and it's still here and driving me mad. And to be honest really starting to worry me. Could it be hayfever? Though piriton is having no affect on me either. I've never had hayfever before but I have no other symptoms if it is.

Any tips or advice?

Thanks in advance

I was told a month and I should see an improvement, unfortunately though I feel that until you’re stress levels drop it may take longer. I stress about everything and know it’s not helping me at all, but hoping now I know it’s nothing serious I’ll relax more and that with the life style changes and the meds it will eventually go. My husband gets terrible heartburn , burning in his throat and is always throat clearing but never lets it bother him and just gets on with it, whereas I always start thinking the worse and become focused on it until it consumes me. I can get symptoms just by reading about them. 😩

SpideyMom · 10/07/2020 20:10

I dont feel any improvement and the medication is doing naff all to be completely honest. Im still taking it but other than the first day or so ive felt worse.
Im starting cutting foods but I still feel it worse than ever. In fact I've just had my dinner and it really feels like something is stuck at the bottom of my neck (you know the little bit where the skin dips in in the middle). Ive actually pressed it in slightly and I felt such a relief. Its made me think he never went low enough with the camera. I am sure he did but my health anxiety is kicking in so bad. Im happy to continue cutting out foods but i don't think its going to do anything. I will be delighted if it does but after absolutely no relief even after the Gaviscon Advance im not holding out much hope.
Im not ruling out stress but I really dont feel overly worried or stressed. Ive returned to work and am enjoying it. Felt no nerves at all, in fact it was like ive never been away but this feeling has been with me there too.
This is why I'm struggling with it. I dont feel pain, I dont feel stressed, and food feels likes its sitting in my throat now. So im totally fed up

It probably is anxiety so I hesitate to post in case I worsen things for you. I have a friend who was diagnosed with globus pharyngeus. Long long story short, after years of struggle she saw a Speech and Language Therapist who did an x-ray of her swallowing food and found a pouch in her throat that was collecting food. The ENTs didn't see because she wasn't eating when they looked down her throat and the food would eventually wash out of the pouch and be swallowed after a while. I'm probably not explaining it right but maybe worth considering a referral for something similar.

SpideyMom · 10/07/2020 20:37

Thats exactly how it feels. Like its collecting at the bottom. I get relief when I press on the dip in the centre of my neck.
My doctor won't refer me again. Especially after the camera up the nose didn't show anything. I didnt eat before my appointment. Because it was an early one and I wasn't sure whether I should or not.

I actually want to make myself sick tonight to try and bring something up.

Has her problem resolved?

Mylittlepony374 · 10/07/2020 21:00

Yes her problem resolved now
They stapled the pouch up I think.

monkeytennis97 · 10/07/2020 21:08

Had this for months, had laparoscopy basically is GERD for me. Lasted few months, took omeprazole and then went. Came back at beginning of lockdown as did other gerd symptoms due I think to high anxiety.

SpideyMom · 10/07/2020 21:13

If this continues im going to have to go back to my doctor. I will give it a month from the camera and see where I am with things.

Although I've chosen to cut out foods and eat a bland diet, I dont understand why the consultant told me I didn't have to make changes to my diet or lifestyle. Its all very well being proactive (thank you for all your advice) but when a medical professional doesn't tell you or even offer you recommendations on how to make yourself feel better most of us would just accept we have to ride it out. My dad has had serious stomach issues and has spent years in agony. Cameras and biopsies have all come back with nothing yet his symptoms continue. Tests continue but he has been told by his consultant that he must change his diet. What he can and MUST not eat, no alcohol etc. He did that to help my dad lessen his symptoms. So why wouldn't a consultant who diagnoses Globus and reflux be able to do the same and offer advice? With mine the emphasis was more on the Globus side of things. And I do understand there is no fix for that. However as I say I do not feel overly worried/stressed/anxious so I dont know

I would say anxiety or acid reflux. I had the latter in pregnancy (silent reflux so hard to diagnose initially) and it caused this and other symptoms.

I occasionally get this symptom and tingly lips when I eat certain fruit though - oral allergy symdrome or something.

SpideyMom · 10/07/2020 21:24

My GP refused to put me back on anything for my anxiety. Said he will only allow natural methods now

Try this recipe book. It's similar to low carb/fast800 and is written by the same people but it's specifically designed for healing your gut.

There's also a book to accompany this recipe book.

Got to be worth a try 🙂

The other book explains the science behind it and how to follow it, etc.

Knowhowufeel2 · 10/07/2020 21:50

This is the other book

I have had a few episodes of globus. You don't necessarily have to feel like you are consciously worried, stressed or whatever OP. In fact, I have had it when I can't pinpoint any real worries. It can be hormonal, or something. First time I had it, it went on for months. Once I had accepted it as a form of anxiety, it went away.

I had it again a couple of weeks ago, and had forgotten how horrible it is! Was about to book to see the doctor when it went away.

SpideyMom · 10/07/2020 23:18

I hope this goes away soon.

My mouth is so dry despite lots of water. When I had the camera the doctor said my throat was very dry. I suppose that's not helping

Im happy to continue cutting out foods but i don't think its going to do anything

SpideyMom I think if you persevere with a bland diet it will really help - and certainly can't do any harm at - but it does take quite a while for your throat to heal. Over a month, probably more like two months for me. But now I can eat almost everything in moderation and like a PP if I choose to eat something I know will trigger a problem, it only lasts a couple of days.

I didn't have any acid taste or heartburn either which I think is why it took so long to figure out what the problem was. I had a really sore throat, sometimes to the point where I felt it was closing up. And that panicked me which didn't help. Horrible.

I would encourage you to stick with it. I know it's not easy.

Consultants do vary and some are only focused on medical intervention whereas for this lifestyle changes are also important.

I agree with everything gamerchick says on the previous page.

I don't know where you live but I know a brilliant consultant in London, happy to private message her details. She only does private work unfortunately; I was lucky to see her through my work health insurance. Now I'm retired I pay to see her and it's worth every penny.

Well I’m now back in the beautiful UK!! Flight was horrid, hate it at the best of times but a very tough one this time.

I already feel like a weights been lifted so I am so hoping my stress starts to decrease and I eventually feel better......

The DC and I are staying with my sister who is a GP which is also reassuring!! She’s got all my meals and everything planned out to fix me, so it also feels good to have someone in charge if that makes sense?? I’ll share any helpful info

Danniotley · 12/07/2020 07:16

Has your thyroid been checked? I had a lump in my throat and difficulty swallowing for years. Had cameras, barium xrays and was told it was anxiety. Eventually got a GP who diagnosed a goitre due to an underachiever thyroid.

Proudnana3 · 13/07/2020 13:40

Welcome back autumn101 hope you start to feel betters soon.

Did you get a copy of the letter you’re consultant sent you’re gp spideymom ? I thought they had to give us a copy. Try to think positive it’s only been two weeks everyone and everywhere says it takes at least a month to start feeling better. That’s what I keep telling myself anyway. I’ve totally changed my eating habits now and am finding it hard especially eating earlier as I don’t finish work til late. I have moments where I don’t feel it at all and then I feel it again and it stresses me. I’ve not spoke to my gp yet since my appointment but I need to ring as I was only given one month of meds instead of the repeat prescription I was told I’d have. One things for sure though if in 3 months I’m not over this I will definitely be being referred back as that’s what he told me to do, he did then add that most never do as they are better.

SpideyMom · 13/07/2020 14:37

I've had nothing from my GP yet so persevering with it. Still the same though.

I'm pretty sure my thyroid was checked when I had my blood tests done recently.

I'm trying to distract my mind but I'm so aware I've felt this now since March. Im trying to convince myself (and failing) that nothing is there. I can even pinpoint where it is, its where the bit in the middle if your neck dips in. When i press on that i feel relief

OP posts:
Proudnana3 · 13/07/2020 15:34

It’s bloody annoying isn’t it, I believe you’re thyroid would have been checked but worth asking you’re doctor. It’s crazy how many different sensations in the throat and other symptoms reflux can cause. Globus wasn’t mentioned to me at all just reflux irritation but I’m assuming that the Globus feeling is caused by the reflux so that’s what it is. I sleep on a wedge pillow, eat only what I know is healthy, I’m now having aloe Vera juice twice daily and taking the meds so I really hope it’s gone in a month or two. Oh and I’ve even cut out all caffeine just have the occasional decaf green tea, I better loose some bloody weight with all this.

SpideyMom · 13/07/2020 16:25

Proudnana, are you feeling any relief?

OP posts:
Proudnana3 · 13/07/2020 18:48

Sometimes I hardly feel it at all but I’m Constantly looking out for it, it’s not horrendous it just feels like a little bubble at the side of my throat or throat feels a little dry and mushy where you swallow. I know I’m overthinking it and the consultant did say It would take a month to even start to feel the symptoms fade and as the throat is my only symptom and that is probably the last place that will heal as the acid needs to be suppressed first I’m trying to be positive and not let it take over

SpideyMom · 14/07/2020 21:37

Mines unbearable tonight. So bad I have to keep catching my breath. Trying not to worry

I have this, it's causing me a lot of anxiety. I don't know
If it's related but my ribs are also tender and I have some discomfort under my left rib in particular. Have you had any other rib/abdominal symptoms?
