I adore it............consume it in bucket fulls and like a gorgeous man it takes over my life and leaves me feeling shite most of the time. Im fat, pasty , dry skinned and constantly tired and now it is starting to affect my work and home life. Yes I function very well and my children are happy and healthy cared for a lot of the time by a nanny as I work 60 to 70 hour weeks but I dont like myself very much and I know I could do so much better without this obession in my life.

So no more wine ( red or white ) or beer etc. Its gin and slimline tonics from now on and only at the weekend. Goes well with the weight watchers plan too.

Anyone else want to join me in suuport ?

hip hip hooray!!!

ladylush · 13/12/2007 19:25

Fantastic news hellobello - clean bill of health. You must be delighted

lallylou · 14/12/2007 10:11

Hellobello, that is great news

I was out Christmas shopping last night and stopped for dinner in restaurant on way home. Had glass and a half of wine with my meal and then about the same when I got home. The glasses were quite big so it was probably 2/3 of a bottle altogether. Woke up at 4am with that horrible paranoid feeling "why did I drink" etc. Going to be strong and have nothing tonight despite it being the weekend. Out at a Christmas party tomorrow night so will probably drink a bottle of wine or some G&Ts there.

ladylush · 14/12/2007 10:13

I have to confess to having a lapse this week. I think it's because xmas is coming and I always enjoy a drink during this time. Yesterday I had a glass of prosecco and half a bottle of mulled wine

monkeybutler · 14/12/2007 19:58

I always make xmas last a few weeks too! I had two bottes wine again last night bringing weekly tally to 40 units. On own tonight but off to bed n a bit as have to be at work early tomorrow. Was up at 4am too but with dd and an ear infection - shattered again!

ladylush · 14/12/2007 21:15

In truth, I think alcohol helps me forget January is swiftly approaching. A really awful month. Even more depressing is the fact that I have a birthday in that month. I so envy dh who's birthday is in July.

SibbleTheRedNosedPossum · 17/12/2007 18:59

hi All, how were your weekends?

Many congrats hellobello - a very legitimate reason to break open the bubbly I would say.

Well in all honesty I have had the odd night without a glass of wine but partly due to very weak will power and partly the time of the year I have drunk most nights. I just can't sit there watching dh drink and not have a glass. BUT the good news is that I havn't had more than half a bottle on each occasion - a huge achievement. Dh and I even had 3/4 bottle on Sunday between us and left the rest - unheard of until I joined this thread. So totals for last 2 weeks 24 and 22 units (that's based on 8 units per bottle which is generous so may even be less). Now I know some will look at still think - blimey but in reality that's about 1/2 what I was drinking before (at least). So I am pleased with myself and everybody else on here should be pleased with themselves too. DOn't get hung up on not making 4 nights drink free, be proud you did 2 if that's an achievement for you. Small steps!!!

monkeybutler · 19/12/2007 16:41

My aim is for 20 units a week so I wont be thinking 'blimey'! Little acorns and all that stuff......

DettaJnr · 19/12/2007 20:38

HBB - well done you! Great news at this time of year.

I haven't been too good either. Have had a few drinks every night since last week. However, did go out on Saturday night and only had 4 pints. Unheard of. I was pleased with myself on Sunday morning though. And not only that, DH got up with kids.

Going to try for an alcohol free night tonight. Not holding out much hope...

Good luck to everyone this week.

Slainte to all.

lallylou · 20/12/2007 10:25

Slainte
I have managed only one alcohol free night so far this week. Plus another when I only had one glass of wine which took me about an hour to drink as I didn't really want it, just poured one out of habit. Went out on Saturday night to party and probably had about a bottle and a half of wine. Then had another 1/2 bottle of wine on Sunday and 2/3 of a bottle last night. The wine I like is a rioja which is 12% so that's about 9 units per bottle. So this week's unit tally from last Saturday is...25.5 units. Which isn't too bad if I'm good tonight and tomorrow....

SibbleTheRedNosedPossum · 20/12/2007 18:36

slainte - managed one alcohol free night last night and feel very good today. Am going out on a girls night out tonight but am going to drive so I can't drink, partly to be good and partly because we're off to the MIL's tomorrow and can't go if feeling rough .

Total this week so far 17 so all being well may be my best yet

hellobellosback · 20/12/2007 19:40

..

hellobellosback · 20/12/2007 19:50

Sorry about that - not at home and not on my own computer. What's my name?!

At the moment we are at my parents' house while they are where we were. It's all mad and nobody knows what the hell's going on. I'm quite depressed and I think I'm slipping towards something a bit more serious than a blip. It could be the bloody steroids, but I don't know.

Anyway, it sounds as though people are finding a way through this time of year! I have no reason to drink. I don't know anyone here, so there are no parties. We can't slip out to the pub because the local one is grim and miles away. I feel too tired and ill to drink very much... so there we are. I have a mad brother who is hard to escape from. I've moaned about him before. Anyway, I don't know who is worse, him or his wife. I have been having nightmares about his wife. (part of the depression I think... hope..)

I am going to have a glass of wine in a min. Tomorrow I am going to the doctor because I am feeling so so wretched. I hope I don't get carted off to the bin. Anyway, I'm going to go or I'll sound like a gloom-laden monster.

I hope all of you are faring better, booze or not!

DettaJnr · 20/12/2007 20:13

HBB - I know this may sound odd, but do you HAVE to have the steroids or could they lower your dose? As I said before, my DH was on them on and off for about a year and it was hell for both of us. It was for us to get pregnant, but that's another story... Hope you're feeling better soon. When things are really bad, sometimes it helps to keep a diary and write down all the good things that have happened that day no matter how mundane they might be. I found it really helped me through some bad patches.

I managed an alcohol free night last night but found I couldn't resist a bottle of chardonnay in the shops earlier. It's sitting in the fridge chilling nicely. I also couldn't resist a yard of jaffa cakes and a toberone and I'm half way through the latter...

Good luck to everyone.

ladylush · 20/12/2007 23:14

Sibble you are doing really well - in fact everyone is. Especially considering the time of year...................tis the season to be jolly!

Toblerone, jaffa cakes and a crisp cold bottle of white..............you must be in heaven detta

hellobello - hope the doctor can suggest something to make you feel better.

I had large glass of mulled wine this evening. Trying to get in the mood for xmas -actually I'm lying cos twas an excuse Slainte all

DettaJnr · 26/12/2007 11:49

How's everyone got on over the festive season? I has one alcohol free day last week. I haven't had that much to drink, one or two every evening but it all adds up.

Sending everyone good vibes.

DettaJnr · 31/12/2007 09:17

Has anyone else had difficulty sticking to the 'reduce intake'? It just seems impossible this time of year.

Wishing everyone a happy new year and hope you all enjoyed your Christmas.

ladylush · 04/01/2008 13:27

Happy New Year everyone. I decided to wait til all the xmas wine is gone, then go back to the alcohol free weekday regime. I can't do it while we have all that lovely prosecco left

Chardonnaylover · 05/01/2008 10:57

Hello all - I have not posted over xmas as have been bad and drinking every day from lunchtime onwards.......

However its a new year and this is day 5 of no alcohol so I am quite proud of myself. Long may it continue.

DoubleBluff · 05/01/2008 11:11

Well done CL.
I have come on this thread having drunk a bottle and a half last night
Like everyone else I know I am drinking too much adn want to cut right down.
I have noticed the white of my eyees are looking yellowy which is not good - think it is something too do with buid up of toxins - gross.
Good luck everyone.

ladylush · 06/01/2008 10:39

Welcome doublebluff Well done CL Did anyone watch Michelle Heaton do that binge drinking thing to find out what effect it has on the body? She said she usually drinks about 30 units a week going out twice. In the programme she went out every night and caned it. I don't know what that acheived really as everyone knows drinking that much is going to affect the liver and heart etc.

hellobellosback · 06/01/2008 16:53

What did she acheive?! Anyway, a boozy and slightly odd new year. I haven't had a drink for 2 days, and managed 2 nights with my parents without getting guttered - pretty impressive for me!

Anyway, I have a confession. The last time I posted, I drank more than a glass of wine. In fact it was a lot more than that. I felt so stupid in the morning realising what I'd done.

ladylush · 06/01/2008 20:24

Hellobello - I meant she wasn't getting bladdered cos she wanted to, but to show what damage it can do. However, the point of the programme was to show her and us that drinking even twice the recommended limit eg 30 units is harmful. The thing is, they didn't test that did they.

ladylush · 06/01/2008 20:26

Eg they didn't show what damage drinking 30 units a week does (which is what she usually drinks), they showed what drinking tons more than that does.

DoubleBluff · 07/01/2008 18:04

I thought the prog was pointless. Drinking like she did every night is obv harmful
I would have been more intersete to know how much damage a couple of bottles of wine a week does. Like what i drink
Only had one glass last night but now am really wanting a good few more tonight. Which is worse? Half a bottle nearly every night - OK every night.
Or a few nights abstinence then a bottle every night on the weeknd?
