The Invisible ...... Mango - 10 / 10 thread - all welcome

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

i don't use any fat for peppers

i agree pots need a lot but either start them off without any take them out when they start to get going heat a small fat then add them back and they absorb less i think

or is that nonsense

3andnomore · 04/09/2007 13:01

wow zippi...I had like a 10 week stint where I had no drink, and that was incredible long....felt better for it, mind....hohum...at the time dh wasn't here though, so, it was so much easier...actually, I think I will do that detox next week (the Jason Vale Juice one) next week, to clear my system out again and I am much less likely to put alcohol into a cleaned system...mental thing, I suppose....

Anyways, must get the schooluniforms from school...(went to es and ms schools yesterday, and neither had them until today....typical....)

SauerKraut · 04/09/2007 13:05

You are all too dreadfully witty and wordy for me again!

Am to find that real life social problems seem to apply to internet social life too coz I love this thread.

TT, I wish you a very happy time home educating, and loads of energy and patience, it's a wonderful thing to do .

SauerKraut · 04/09/2007 13:08

And I have had, by the way, carrots, tomatoes- from the garden at last- humungous purple- striped runner beans, a pear and a nectarine.

and only 2 custard creams.

MrsCarrot · 04/09/2007 13:08

lovely paragraphs, 3andnomore, you could have ignored me though

Lol Lion- loved eee lekes, ha ha ha

Don't be sad Sauerkraut!

zippitippitoes · 04/09/2007 13:09

Overrun · 04/09/2007 13:14

Good afternoon. For what its worth although the moment has already passed I think you were very brave and did the right thing as well
Aviatrix I read your link to the potty training thread, it sounds like you and Franny have some useful advice on this subject, I have a thread on there about dt1 regressing, I wont post the link because I don't want to be pushy! But would appreiciate either of your inputs on this
So far today I have had a banana, an apple some salad and some dried prunes. I am planning on having ruby chard for dinner, and any suggestions for recipes for that would be gratefully recieved.
Good luck to all those whose dcs are starting school for the first time like my ds1, and those who are home schooling or not as the case might be

Overrun · 04/09/2007 13:16

the first bit of my post was addressed to Boco

zippitippitoes · 04/09/2007 13:17

i still don't get the cunt bit

SauerKraut · 04/09/2007 13:23

ruby chard makes a nice pasta sauce- steam it first, then fry onions and garlic, add steamed chard with a bit of cream if you like it, stir all together, put over cooked pasta and add grated cheese.

lionheart · 04/09/2007 13:24

The HE decision is a big one to make.

zippitippitoes · 04/09/2007 13:24

is ruby chard bitter..is that home grown it doesn't sound like something you could buy hee

lionheart · 04/09/2007 13:25

I am trying detox but these recipes are causing me to make furtive glances in the direction of the kitchen.

SauerKraut · 04/09/2007 13:26

You're right there, Lion. I did it for 6 months for all 4. A lot of close relatives were very .

lionheart · 04/09/2007 13:30

The HEs on here seem to have to deal with some difficult reactions, that's for sure.

Overrun · 04/09/2007 13:33

thanks Sauerkraut, that sounds yummy and quick, its just the stalking and cutting and washing and drying bit that puts me off
Not home grown unfortunately, although we plan to start doing that next spring, but from a veg box

SauerKraut · 04/09/2007 13:37

Any time! My sink isn't big enough and they act as flipping waterslides. We get them from a local lady who sells Demeter stuff from her barn.

Lullabyloo · 04/09/2007 14:40

Am sitting here munching on warm apple cake & it is divine

4-5 medium apples (granny smiths are good)
1 lemon,grated zest & juice
85g oatmeal
85g barley flour
2tsps baking powder
200g raw sugar
3 eggs
120g butter,melted
100ml milk(dairy or soya)
1 tsp vanilla extract
1-2 tsp cinnamon
50g chopped walnuts

preheat oven to 160.Grease 24cm springform tin & line
peel,core & finely slice apples
toss in bowl with lemon juice & zest
In a bowl,combine oatmeal,flour& baking powder.
Using electric beaters, whisk eggs & sugar till creamy.
Pour in the melted butter & the flour mixture.Beat until incorporated & let sit for 5-10 mins.
Gradually add milk & vanilla.Batter should be like a thick pancake batter.
Pour one third of batter into tin & top with third of apple mix, discarding excess lemon juice.
Repeat layers & finish with layer of apples.
Sprinkle with cinnamon & walnuts, bake for 1 hour 20 mins.
*

Ds & I had a mound of brown rice, buckwheat & banana pikelets with warm apple & apricot compote for brekkie & carrot, apple & ginger juice.
He then went happily into nursery without a backward glance & I had to beg a cuddle before gulping & leaving. Was a pitiful, panda eyed sight walking home.\
Came back & had baking frenzy to take my mind off ds..made cake & date & ginger cookies.

We had leek & butternut squash gratin & green salad for lunch....after massive squalling tantrum arose when I picked ds up....he refused point blank to leave & declared he was going to live there for ever
Teachers were noticably shocked at said behaviour as he had been angel child all morning....typical

supper is going to be asparagus & rice soup,& nice bread & houmus...as I've done enough cooking for one day....humph

FrannyandZooey · 04/09/2007 14:41

SK please don't be shy - you are lovely to speak to on here

Zippi it was me ranting about my mother having prodded my mango - then when I ate it it was rotten - in the heat of the moment I may possibly have called it a cunting mango - some people found it amusing

Overrun Overrun I can't believe you are back! I keep doing a double take when I see your name. Sorry I haven't repleied to your email properly (or lots of other people's either), I will try to catch up, plus let you know about the meet up, plus someone said they couldn't read the bulk cooking thing, was it you 3and? Did I send it to everyone else who asked for it?

LL I hate that thing where they refuse to leave places - or go anywhere in the first place. Ds had a year or so where he would just refuse to shift - you couldn't get him in the bath, then you couldn't get him out. He would refuse to go to the park, then scream when it was time to go home...

OP posts:
Lullabyloo · 04/09/2007 15:18

yup franny.....that is my son to a T.........grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

lionheart · 04/09/2007 16:02

LL will you stop it with the seductive recipes? I am trying deTOX!!!

MrsCarrot · 04/09/2007 16:04

I don't think LL's recipes are very toxic, in fact they are the opposite.

Start your detox NOW, lionhart, by making that apple cake. Then send me some.

Where do you get that flour, LL?

Lullabyloo · 04/09/2007 16:17

Mrs C....our organic shop had it......managed to get little bottle of apple concentrate too ...no pear though..boo

lionheart....i'm sure the cake would be great for your detox

Overrun · 04/09/2007 16:21

Aim to please FZ, but feel like a bit of new girl again pleased that the thread is so popular though.
Have had some dried apricots as well, but I know you can only count dried fruits once
My dcs eat a lot of dried fruit, ideally I would like them to eat more fresh (dts are pretty good) but dt1 is horrendous still.
