For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

FK Have a lovely time, hope the sun stays shiney!

Boco · 07/09/2007 20:38

It's kind of reassuring that there are so many of us non drivers here, i like that.

I chose Roger because he was recommended by this scary lady who lives here but works for the guardian and she passed with him. Doubt he'd hold her hand though as she is quite scary, so maybe she never had this problem. She has a bubble with oh fgs in it floating above her all the time. And he works for one of the main driving schools, not just himself - and he's the highest level of instructor - so he teaches instructors and stuff - i spoke to his employers about him before i started, they told me his qualifications. So that was the background id done.

Sorry for going on about all this, you've all been very patient and helpful. I think he's a pain and a letch, but i really wouldn't put myself in a situation where i felt he was actually a threat or dangerous or anything - really.

FrannyandZooey · 07/09/2007 20:54

I don't drive, either. It's another of our 10 / 10 weirdnesses.

Boco this is possibly another form of prostituting yourself but it occurred to me that coming up to Christmas, a way for artists to make money is to sell personalised things for children. Eg nice picture for nursery wall with child's name on it. You have probably thought of this a thousand times and I am teaching you to suck eggs [desperately trying to redeem self]. However your pictures are lovely and you have your target market sitting right here waiting to buy stuff.

What's more, Boco, my dp can put pictures onto mugs and various things. In case that is useful information
Do you have a friend who could take you out to practise? I feel for you, really I do. I spent 5 years in this village as a non-driver (passed last summer) and it is a good feeling to get that independence. It's a big self esteem thing as well. I really hope it goes well.

I have eaten lots of soup (onion, garlic, courgette, celery, 2 types of lentil).

I am tired tired tired and am going to bed.

100x, may be in the park tomorrow. I will look around furtively for Annes and small boys in pyjamas

Lots of love to everybody.

Boco · 07/09/2007 21:49

Those are good ideas. I do have lots of ideas. It's the doing that is hard, with no childcare, and evenings spent mning. I must stop mning.

I wouldn't mind if i was in a town or city - i didn't need to drive in London - it's just here, i can't get stay in a situation where i'm stranded.

Friend taking me out would be good - its the childcare thing again and timing. Been out with dp, but with both girls in the back asking constant questions - i can't concentrate.

Toot, look out for a young Anna Ford.

FrayedKnot · 07/09/2007 22:08

Having lived in a small villages for most of my childhood I was frogmarched to BSM by my parents who refused to drive me anywhere ever again past the age of 18 (I was quite reluctant), hence I am a driver.

I did continue to live in villages until 2 years ago and it can be extremely isolating anyway. I can;t imagine living without a car in that kind of community, so totally understand your need to learn, Boco.

I now live in an urban area where it is quite possible to get about without a car, but I do need one to get to work.

See I said I wasn;t lentilly enough to be on this thread.

FrannyandZooey · 07/09/2007 22:10

Lentils are not the only fruit, FK

same as you frayed - grew up in small village, parents forced me to drive at 17. So we are the exceptions to the 10/10 rule. I now live in a town and for three years I had no car and it was no problem really - but now I have finally got one it is very nice.

See, two car family - that is SO not 10/10!

BBBee · 07/09/2007 22:33

I lured TnOgu here - I love her and only seem to stumble on her by accident so was hoping to pin her down on 10/10 but she is too wafty I think.

(bok-coe, boe-coe?!?!)

Boco · 07/09/2007 22:36

hel-loe?

Boco · 07/09/2007 22:36

Bee when you read my name do you think Bocko?

IdrisTheDragon · 07/09/2007 22:37

We have two cars in our family as well. And I have been dirving for nearly 15 years.

It is my birthday in less than 90 minutes time .

IdrisTheDragon · 07/09/2007 22:37

Boco are you an engine as in Thomas?

BBBee · 07/09/2007 22:41

I do think Bock-ohe I always have - it is boc - co, like in thomas the tank engine?

You can't be bow-coe it is like a company shortened "bow (street) (in)co(perated)"

Sorry you can't not be bock - oh to me.

BBBee · 07/09/2007 22:41

oooh - idris - what are you doing tomorrow?

Boco · 07/09/2007 22:48

Yeah but i am boco as in the Thomas engine, and that engine is pronounced boe-coe! I was boco because dd1 went through her weird thomas obsession when she was 2, and we were all assigned engine names, and she called me boco for about 4 months. dp was kranky the crane.

Boco · 07/09/2007 22:48

Happy Bithday for an hour and a bit Idris? How old will you be? It's my birthday on Wednesday.

FrannyandZooey · 07/09/2007 22:53

I think bock-oh would be spelt bocco

I have always thought bow-coe [smug]

A happy and fruity birthday to you, Idris!

TooTicky · 08/09/2007 08:37

Happy Birthday Idris

I have always thought Boe-coe too.

Right, shall I take my Young Anna Ford spotting book out with me today?

TooTicky · 08/09/2007 08:41

My dd1 had a Thomas phase too. She could recognise any engine from any angle and could spot when, say, Henry had been printed blue by mistake. "That is Henry, he should be green!"
She then had a similarly expert and pedantic dinosaur phase. You would not believe how many mistakes there are in dinosaur books. She spotted them all.
