For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

Steven Biddulph says so so it must be true...

It does seem to be true. . .

filthymindedvixen · 05/09/2007 16:29

oh just read my original post and hoping you all can work out I meant not being able to be on here...this thread moves so fast.

lionheart · 05/09/2007 16:34

Oh yes, I remember that too, fmv.

But I read about it on Mumsnet so I didn't worry so much when DS1 kept demanding to fight.

filthymindedvixen · 05/09/2007 16:37

At the moment, ds1's hormones seem to be creeping up the roller-coaster track again. he is 10 in december and is often, cranky, tearful, hyper and is paying attention to his appearance and actually volunteering to have showers Where is my baby?? Where did the last 10 years go?

ahundredtimes · 05/09/2007 17:15

FMV - that sounds like ds1 who is ten in october. This morning he came down in school uniform for first day with his hair all watered down against his head. I laughed and said, 'what have you done? You look like an accountant.'

(apologies to all accountants, obviously I know you don't all have your hair greased into a central parting).

He quite rightly, got very huffy, I have felt guilty about this all day.

DD's day was a great success. She says she likes Year One, she said 'I think I love my teacher', which is nice if a little extreme.

DS says a teacher hit him on the head and called him 'a stupid clumsy boy'. He is outraged. He is going to write a Letter of Complaint.

DS2 can't stop talking about what a great time he's having and all the wonderful, wonderful things that have happened to him, except for choosing chicken curry for lunch, which he said he couldn't eat.

Debrief over. Must go and cook food. Phew, first day over.

ahundredtimes · 05/09/2007 17:18

I love Ron in the library.

DS2 made up a song at that age, it was a sort of punk song, it went 'The dog got stuck in the church, oh yes, oh yeah, stuck in the church, aaaaaagh.'

FrannyandZooey · 05/09/2007 18:09

Idris how about oatcakes, breadsticks, salad things cut up, hummus dip, cold felafel or sausages, boiled eggs or cut up pieces of omelette or frittata, slices of avocado? Any good?

3and, I used to bike 3 miles to school at that age - I think it is good for them to be getting that exercise every day. How can it be 'cruel' for someone to be outside having exercise every day? What a crap attitude. I presume he has good rain gear, warm coat, etc

Also 3and, I also really enjoy time on my own without ds. I wish there was a school I was happy sending him to, but there isn't at the moment, so I'll be HEing. I have no desire to have him at home all day every day I can assure you (the arse)

I'll try to send the bulk cooking file as text, we don't have ordinary Word foor some reason on this pc.

Relief at all children safely home again. Do you think I could HE all your children to save us all from the stress?

Have been to gp about my liver function thing. Some of you may remember my enzymes were slightly raised (it is pretty dull really). More tests but they don't think anything is wrong, really. Sorry that talking about liver stuff is obviously a bit close to home with your illness Lully, but I knew some of you would remember it, and an MNer actually emailed me the other day and reminded me to go and have the repeat tests done!

Glad the school days all seem to have been a success so far. dd said she loved her teacher too, she said that people say mrsL is a good teacher, and now she realises that it's all true, she really is good! Hooray. But the first thing she told me, and the high point of her day was that she was not the last person to eat her lunch. Kate Jacobs was even slower. [beam]

3andnomore · 05/09/2007 18:10

fmv and 100....my es went through this last year...which makes sense, as he is 11 now, lol...the only thing that we have probs with is to get him to wash/shower/bath....little toad he is...he has a fair few spots coming up now, so, I bought him some face wash...at least his face is getting a wash, lol!

3andnomore · 05/09/2007 18:15

lol Boco....

Franny... lol at you using arse again in context with your son, lolololol....I think it's sooo funny.
But you know, maybe you are far to selective about school ;) Or maybe I am to little selective....hm....I have no standards...
Maybe the 2 mile walk/bikeride, and people thinking it's cruel reflects that most people seem to have problems walking up to the local shop or town (5 minutes away)...I suppose to those it would seem horrid.
I see it like you...it's exercise.

3andnomore · 05/09/2007 18:16

oops, meant to say, that I hope all the test yuou have to have come back o.k.....what sort of enzyme problem is it? Just being my nosy self...

filthymindedvixen · 05/09/2007 18:22

we have a modest mile walk and all the other parents say things like''oh gosh, how hard it must be for you. Aren't you brave..etc''

Idle, lazy-arsed cretins
Though I do feel sorry for us when it is pissing it down. Though sometimes if it is especially vile we get a taxi as a treat. Or ring dh and plead....

FrannyandZooey · 05/09/2007 18:25

I have got this pins and needles thing, have had them more or less constantly in my hands and feet since the Spring. They did blood tests and found one type of liver enzyme had raised levels which could in very vague theory be something to do with liver damage (seeing as am ex-drinker this bothered me).

They are repeating tests to see if it was a one off, she examined me quite thoroughly for further signs of liver damage and did not think it was likely.

Been thinking about you Lullaby.

FrannyandZooey · 05/09/2007 18:27

I think it's cruel to drive your children everywhere so they don't get any exercise, if they are able to walk. But that's just my opinion.

OP posts:
3andnomore · 05/09/2007 18:40

FMV...yes, people are kind a lazy often, aren't they....we often walk to the shop 2-3 miles away , depending which one we use, and when people see us, they can never believe it, as we do have a car (dh goes to work on a motorbike)!

Must say, if the weatehr was to get really bad, I probably would drive him and his friend up...I mean, if it was really chucking it down like.
Also will find out busconnections just incase...I suppose!

Franny, ...that must be worrysome for you. And I also been thinking about Lullaby.

MrsCarrot · 05/09/2007 18:45

My ds1 is ten in November and I have asked him to shower more often! Plus he has FIVE new polo shirts, one for each day. I have noticed him being really sweaty towards the end of last term. God he can be grumpy too. Worst of all, when I say watch Lo for a minute, he asks why, suspiciously . I think he and dh have got some sort of monitor-mummy-on-mumsnet pact.

I think children should walk miles and miles and miles. When dd used to moan we would talk about how her brain was the boss of her legs and she could just tell them to keep going. She liked the boss part.

3andnomore · 05/09/2007 18:50

Franny, maybe there is somehting on this webpage that would be useful to you.

BBBee · 05/09/2007 19:06

my two both bounced out of school which was good and then they boh talked non-stop which was lovely after the eerie silence of home all day.

I am supposed to be doing loads of work - I am starting a course in October and I have 9 pre-course assignments that involve reading about five papers per assignment. I was waiting until they were back at school to mkae a start and my progress was a lot slower than I would have liked. Bugger. I think I will have to stop coming online and buggering about so much.

I have head fuzz (as MrsC says) and I need to clear it. A really fancy a glass of wine and also the dog songs were very theraputic.

Boco - what has happened to Arnold Shaklebot and the pig? I love those stories.

FrannyandZooey · 05/09/2007 19:09

I have huge huge huge cravings for chocolate

are we pre-menstrual? Have lost track and we mostly seem to be in synch so asking you lot more helpful than consulting diary

I am a full moon gal, so I'm done for this month.

lionheart · 05/09/2007 19:12

I thought that was last week.

BBBee · 05/09/2007 19:41

I think I am scheduled to begin freefall eating and blaming it on PMT in about four days time.

IdrisTheDragon · 05/09/2007 19:43

I am not pre-menstrual. Can someone be post-menstrual (in that their period is just finishing?)

ahundredtimes · 05/09/2007 19:48

Oh god, it's not that time again is it?

We had tomato and courgette and parmesan risotto. I think there were too many 'ands' in it. Also two nectarines (organic ones are 32p each in my grocers) and three plums, an apple and a banana.

lionheart · 05/09/2007 19:48

Absolutely.
