For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

Well you had me fooled - I did think you were perfect and your ds is scrummy!

FrannyandZooey · 04/09/2007 22:22

Nonono have porridge IMO. Very good for your blood sugar etc - will help you stop feeling faint afterwards. Rice crispies quite processed carbs I think

PSW yes he is that

(the arse )

hope it all goes well, I should ruddy go myself

pinkspottywellies · 04/09/2007 22:27

OK will have porridge with stewed plums - tis my new favourite! Then have work meeting so will probably feel awful anyway when I go to give blood!

MrsCarrot · 04/09/2007 22:30

Rice krispies are just sugary dust I think, like a burned out shell of the rice that once was. They are bizarre things. Look like maggots too. Porridge is much better.

Nectarines for 5p Where do you live?

lionheart · 04/09/2007 22:33

That reminds me I must sign up for the blood thing. DS1 is keen to go and see how they do it. It will be educational.

Boco · 04/09/2007 22:35

I've definitely had my 10/10 today [virtuous]

Deeeelishus asparagus.

Just spent hours drawing a picture on facebook very meticulously when i should have been doing actual drawing work. But i'm very proud of this picture, it's of a rabbit on a rainy street.

Franny i have these issues with dd1 all the time. Today she played at a friends house and then i picked her up and took her straight to the park where she could play with another friend. On the way she was scooting along on her scooter and she looked at me with absolute happiness and beamed 'mummy i feel so lucky' and i had warm feelings of general success. Then, on the way home, she shouted at me that she hates her stupid scooter and it's my fault she can't ride her bike without stabilisers yet because i NEVER take her to the park and when she went on a school trip i didn't even wave goodbye (4 months ago) and that she's hungry and i never bring snacks blah blah - and refused to scoot and was horrid. And i had sinking resentful bad parent thoughts.

Bleedin rollercoaster this lark.

pinkspottywellies · 04/09/2007 22:41

Oh I can't wait till dd gets older and hates me

MrsC I get my fruit and veg from the market in the city. I fill 3 bag for life type bags for about £8!

Tatties · 04/09/2007 23:13

Franny no this ring is not an opal but I do have a sob story about one (I lost the stone from it ) Why? Do you have an opal?

About ds being an arse... sometimes ds is vile too and I think WHY??? What am I doing wrong??? I think you are probably right with the sleep thing; I don't think ds gets enough either, he's scared of missing something if he goes to bed too early or gets up too late. I am tired of trying to tire him out every day... (and I never like to use negative terminology about him either)

PSW good on you for giving blood Dp is very good at it and goes regularly; I tried once and passed out halfway through. I think it's a great thing to do if you can. Oh and rice krispies won't sustain you, definitely go for porridge.

TooTicky · 05/09/2007 00:02

Look, I just can't keep up so this is a huge HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO to everybody and I can't remember all the individual little comments I had thought of.

Well, have survived first HE day.

3, we are HE because dd1 has been having trouble with bullying/exclusion in school and I felt I couldn't put her through another year of it. This is her last year of primary and she will go to secondary school as normal next year. I wrote a deregistration letter to the headmaster and just didn't take her in. The local authority will be in touch at some point and will want to know that she is making progress but they can't actually stop us. It's a bit hair-raising but one of those things I felt I had to do. So here we are The boys are taking it remarkably well, bless them.

Oh, food. Um. Ah yes...cucumber, stew'n'dumplings (onion, carrot, peas, celery, potato, courgette) and coconut cake made with fresh coconut and creamed coconut icing. And some apples. And a banana. There.

I have just reminded myself of Orange Pear Apple Bear. Has anyone else read that one? It is sheer genius.

womblingalong · 05/09/2007 00:32

Hooray Tatties! - about the ring. So glad that you found it.

I used to love Monkey Magic! Don't think it was racist though?

This is a very quick sleep deprived check in to say, thanks for all the info/advice re DS, it really helped yesterday.

He has still been crap today, and had his jabs, so not a very happy bunny at all, poor thing.

I am off to Dublin tomorrow with DH sans DC's. Nana and Grandad are babysitting.

Get back Thurs, and go to the Lakes for a week on Friday, so no MN for a while prob.

Have done middling on F&V today, Raisins, dates, apricot, pineapple dried fruit. 3 plums, nectarine, sweetcorn, carrots, green beans, Mango juice, peach and passionfruit smoothie

see you all in a week or so

Oh dear I am now worried that a) I have shocked everyone by being really unpleasant about ds (sorry but he was an arse) or b) usually been so pious that everyone is completely shocked at me being normal after all. Ds quite often drives me up the wall. I usually just rant to dp though, I don't know, I am usually feeling quite positive when I come on 10 / 10 so I guess I don't talk about it. If I am feeling crap about something I tend to slink off in a corner.

Tatties, well, I have an opal somewhere, I believe, but it is lost....They have a terrible habit of getting lost or broken IME, hence me asking whether your ring that loses itself is one, plus they have a reputation for being unlucky. It's my belief they don't like being owned by people [bonkers but true emoticon] I went through a brief obsession with them but have given up for now. They just vanish. Have you read Pobby and Dingan?

Avi, nut roast? Nuts are cheap protein if you buy in bulk. Veg stew with beans in? Any kind of soup? I find it I shop at greengrocers / market then veg is cheap and the cheapest meals are veg soups and stews. However if I am getting organic veg delivered, then the veg component becomes that much more expensive, and it's cheaper to pad the meal out with pulses and rice etc.

Wombling have a good break.

Oh I've had strawberries, grapes, plums, raisins

did I mention yesterday that we spent a good half hour cracking and eating sunflower seeds from our own sunflower? Very satisfying indeed

Hello . I am eating fruit salad. Very satisfying.

IdrisTheDragon · 05/09/2007 08:21

I can't give blood anymore due to having had two units given to me after DS was born. I don't really like the feeling that the blood I was gievn could have had something it shouldn't in it and so I can't give any of mine to someone else, but there you go.

zippitippitoes · 05/09/2007 08:33

hope the home edding goes well

and have a good day with these bloody minded kids everyone

ds came in to see me briefly in bed last night and looked at me as though I was completely mad

the point of view of the young, he actually said

er mum why are you going to egypt?

so it just shows that me leaving the house to go on a holiday is just not what is expected..though of course he is always jetting off..i am supposed to be in my slippers (i don't have any though) arranging flowers or something..probably watching corrie

I just dropped dd1 at school for her first day in class 1. She was really scared, gripped my hand as i tried to leave and whispered 'i don't actually need to be here do I?, can we just go back home please?' Left her standing in the middle of the room looking petrified. I'd tried to get her to be with one of her friends but she'd gone all blank and silent and they wandered off.

Ohh. I know she'll be fine but i've got a small empty feeling.

DD2 is upset because she doesn't have a uniform and is cross because after all the excitement of getting out of the house, we're straight back home - so i'm going to take her to a friends house soon.

If anyone has facebook and can find animated graffiti, the rabbit i spent ages on has been put in the featured graffiti gallery. I think its coming about 6ths so far.

ahundredtimes · 05/09/2007 09:36

I have just dropped all mine off too. DS1's shirts are too big and he looked like that character from the Beano who doesn't have a neck, he looked sick as a dog. DS2 strangely chipper and dd, also about to start Year 1, gripped my hand in the playground and wouldn't let go.

I feel sick. I need a new pencil case to stroke.

Boco · 05/09/2007 09:51

I wander if your year one dd has the same name as mine and BBBees. I wonder if we all have a child with the same name.

DD looked like a simple line drawing in her uniform. I want to throw an orange blanket over her, with pink flowers on.

SauerKraut · 05/09/2007 09:55

Morning! After an eventful evening- was hauled into kindergarten to be told that dd3 is behaving almost as badly there as she is at home , must be general arsiness in the air.
I am feeling for those dropping little ones off at school, and hope it all goes well. Here I think most mothers would love to be doing that, (ha, little do they know...)full days at school don't exist until age 11, and then not every day, and until then they live the life of Riley. Whoever he was.
Have had muesli and banana. Only 9 to go.

ahundredtimes · 05/09/2007 09:56

I don't think hers is a very unusual name - yours is, isn't it?
Do you think they're OK? There was a big group of year 1 girls standing holding hands, and I took dd over there, but she wouldn't hold anybody's hand. I was very brisk and cheerful - very Anne-like - and turned heel and walked away.

zippitippitoes · 05/09/2007 09:58

ahh there is a lot of mild trauma around with school isn't there..exciting but terrifying at the same time

I still do the new pencil case thing

I can't have breakfast because there is no milk...

I am feeling I am on a bit of a bipolarness test at the moment..I think I am being impulsive but also normal...it's a strange thing kind of assessing yourself all the time

I didn't sleep very wel the last few nights so fingers crossed i can the next few...it is excitment and nrvous energy

any sleeping tips...will try and get the exercise which helps but it is going to be hard fitting it in..just when i really need it too

Boco · 05/09/2007 10:08

I had to be sensible too, and say 'you'll have a lovely time, goodbye!' and march. I don't think dds name is sensible enough for you to have picked it actually. Maybe your dd is called Kate, or Harriet. And your boys are James and Thomas?

Zippi i think i know what you mean. My brother has bipolar disorder (not sure if you meant that literally - but he is) and because he's been very ill in the past, i look at what he's doing sometimes and try to work out if this is bipolar impulsive or regular impulsive. I think your holiday sounds great - exciting and adventurous. I knew you were adventurous.

SK - 11 before whole days! I didnt' know that. Sorry about your dds arsiness.
