For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

It is wonderful to find things. You must be chuffed.

Bon, j'ai mange

Dried fruit mix
Grapes
Salad from lunch van at work (lettuce, toms, cucumber)
Spinach
Peppers
Cucumber
Babycorn
Raspberries

LL the way you describe your food is magical

Boco good for you, I would have cowered and bottled out. I have had stuff circulated at work before which I found a bit offensive and didn;t say anything.

SauerKraut · 04/09/2007 20:35

Thanking ye all kindly, I am trying my Very Best not to be shy- now that I've found my way round the two flies currently shagging on my keyboard.
LL, those meals sound wonderful and just up our street. I shall be emulating you like mad, you've inspired me!
Tatties, I am so glad you found your ring (desperately trying to stop thinking fnarr fnarr), I jolly well know what that feels like. My wedding ring fell off into the sand on Portstewart beach during a six-month stay there without Dh. I scrabbled and hunted, the dcs all rose to the occasion, as did many onlookers. We were just giving up and leaving after hours when ds spotted something shining! I almost felt as if I had saved my marriage! The icecreams were humungous that evening!!

lionheart · 04/09/2007 20:48

Clever DS, SK.

BBB the lion tongue looks a bit, erm, un-leonine.

Yes, well done, boco.

pinkspottywellies · 04/09/2007 21:06

Food went a bit wrong today. Started well - nectarine, apricot, apple juice, raisins (4). Then lunch was pesto, tomato & mozzarella toastie with cucumber, tomato and avocado (2.5) and banana cake (Franny's recipe). Dinner was at my friend's house - her wardrobe fell down the stairs on her we had veggie pizza and coleslaw (1 maybe 1 and a half at a push!) Will snack this evening while watching CSI so I'll try and get 2 more in.

Ive started to do some toning exercises with (very light!) weights and I'm trying to fit it in every day. Done 2 days so far.

oh dear had a lazy day today...i will have to pull my finger out tomorrow

exercise, work, lists, fruit and veg

MrsCarrot · 04/09/2007 21:41

Just lost my whole long post

MrsCarrot · 04/09/2007 21:44

LL - we must have a recipe book from you, there must be a pamphlets worth at least.

DS 1 used to leap in after Monkey waggling his hands over his mouth and making a smoking action before crooning, munkaaaaay...

I paid 3.60 for four nectarines today. I like my grocers but they are phenomenally expensive sometimes. They are sitting in the fruitbowl like kings but I will eat them for breakfast.

FrannyandZooey · 04/09/2007 21:44

Oh sorry if I didn't read it properly Avi. Was interested in the bit about bladder control so wanted to ask

Ds keeps being a total arse from about 4 pm every day. It is getting a bit wearing, especially as I am trying very hard to give him lots of proper attention and do actual activities and stuff with him during the day instead of just leaving him in his pyjamas digging in the mud. It's very wearing and by 4 pm I feel like I should be getting a break with uniformed lackeys bringing me fresh mango juice, not loon 4 year olds screeching at me that they will never, ever, ever, ever come downstairs again, ever.

OP posts:
MrsCarrot · 04/09/2007 21:45

Does he do that when you leave him in his pyjamas digging in the mud?

FrannyandZooey · 04/09/2007 21:46

Those nectarines will cheap compared to the last two lots I had MrsC if you get to eat them. So many of mine went rotten I think I must have paid about £6.50 for the 2 I actually got to eat

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 04/09/2007 21:46

I don't know, probably

I am too busy ignoring him to notice

Offer to supply your own exquisite snacks for the whole group on days ds attends?

Erm I think he is just really tired. He has this thing atm of wanting to sleep with the door open, because otherwise there is a shadow which looks like a rabbit and he doesn't like it. So when dp gets up at 6.20 every morning, ds wakes up too more often than not. And he really should be sleeping a bit longer.

It's annoying, anyway. I really did feel like we had been doing too much lately and that he hadn't had enough attention from me, so I clear the decks for a couple of days and get all this shit. It is maybe partly because he has the space to express it all. Blah. We have a change of routine tomorrow anyway as I am working and we will be out in the afternoon. I hope that will fix it, temporarily, at least.

Hello. These threads move too fast for me. I think I may be more of a reader than contributer. But I do try to take in (and digest) all the useful words everyone else contributes .

FrannyandZooey · 04/09/2007 22:16

Digesting our words does not count towards your 10 a day, you know

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 04/09/2007 22:17

Oh I wanted to say. Overrun I think you were saying about dried fruits only counting as 1. Well those are the rules for 5 a day, so as we are doing 10, I think we can have 2 portions of dried fruits a day. Ditto juices, and pulses. That's my opinion, anyway. You might do it differently, of course.

OP posts:
pinkspottywellies · 04/09/2007 22:19

I was surprised to see you saying ds was being an arse earlier Franny on another thread! Most unlike you

My nectarines are usually 10 for 50p but sometimes they are really expensive at 10 for £1 I usually end up cutting bad bits out but I bet it's still about 7 for 50p on average. My ..... mangoes are usually 30 or 50p for lovely big ones.

FrannyandZooey · 04/09/2007 22:20

Oh god I often think it PSW

I just don't type it because I want you all to think I and my ds are completely perfect

pinkspottywellies · 04/09/2007 22:21

I've just had some dried apricots. They're high in iron aren't they? I'm giving blood tomorrow - first time since dd - and want to make sure I'm ok to do it! I might have rice crispies for breakfast. They're fortified aren't they - would that be better than porridge?
