Because I would like some examples of responsible drinking as I think I am on the verge of starting to drink too much too frequently. An idea of real-life responsible approaches to it would be very helpful. Thank you.

Sorry I know this isn't what you asked for but it made me laugh because I thought of a sign that was up in the bar in the Simpsons movie 'Please binge drink responsibly'

You're very sensible for thinking about it. I'm sure I drink too much as well - normally 4 or 5 glasses of wine 3 or 4 evenings a week.

What puts me off a bit is that if you limit yourself to one or two glasses it's not really much fun IME. But I really really like drinking, I guess I'm a bad example.

gulp · 23/08/2007 20:38

Can't decide if I find it easier to have days totally not drinking or just having A glass.

Need things to replace that post-bedtime glass of wine with!

Is it ONLY wine drinkers who want to drink every night?

that made me laugh, Anorak (your post)

When going through shit period of life, drink 1-3 bottles of shit beer a night, and ache to go to shop for beer.
Now better period, no ache, less drinking, more inclined to swill down some vodka once a week.

Othersideofthechannel · 23/08/2007 20:41

couple of bottled beers a week when it is hot (not many this summer)

couple of glasses of wine a two or three nights a week, usually one bottle spread over 7 days. DH doesn't drink wine (despite being French) and I have a vacuum pump to avoid giving myself the excuse to finish the bottle over a couple of nights so it doesn't go bad

bit more on weekends if entertaining or being entertained

even more for special occasions

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 23/08/2007 20:43

I have, at most, two bottles a week (of wine mind . I have in the past drunk much more than that.

If it's in the house I drink it, so for me to have proper days off. If I promised myself one glass a night it just wouldn't happen.

NineUnlikelyTales · 23/08/2007 20:43

At the moment I only drink maybe 1 - 2 glasses of wine or G&T per week, because I am too knackered to bother most of the time. But in my pre-DS days I would drink 2 - 3 glasses a night a couple of times a week, and knock back a lot more than that during dinner parties etc, maybe once or twice a month.

Listen to me...dinner parties Now I'm lucky if I eat chips out of the paper, on my knees in front of the television

startouchedtrinity · 23/08/2007 20:43

Oh dear, am not going to be popular, but I don't drink b/c it impairs my judgement too much and I like to feel totally in control. Dh has stopped drinking recently and I have noticed a massive change in his temper i.e for the better.

Have had to deal with a lot of crap over th epast year and one reason I don't drink is because I know it would get out of hand.

maureenmlove · 23/08/2007 20:43

I drink one bottle of wine a week. Usually broken down into 5 glasses on Friday and 1 on Saturday!

Donk · 23/08/2007 20:44

Might share a bottle of wine with a couple of friends if we have visitors at a weekend - otherwise nothing.

maureenmlove · 23/08/2007 20:44

Damn this thread, now I want wine!

expatinscotland · 23/08/2007 20:44

Depends on how skint I am. I can go for months without it if the money's not there.

Or down a bottle in one weekend night.

Wine. Entirely. I don't drink anything else.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 23/08/2007 20:45

Now expat - you know you like the odd glass of whisky.

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/08/2007 20:46

One or two glasses or wine, once or twice a week (sometimes less).

Anorak is a bad example, so ignore her .

gulp · 23/08/2007 20:46

Can I ask what you drink in the evening/with dinner etc (those who don't drink much alcohol)

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 23/08/2007 20:46

Again, saggar, that doesn't happen too often because whisky is £££.

southeastastra · 23/08/2007 20:47

my drinking habits are either julie andrews or amy winehouse.

anorak i thought you were going to bermuda?

expatinscotland · 23/08/2007 20:47

Water, gulp.

I usually have a cup of Celestial Seasoning's 'Sleepytime' tea, too, of an evening.

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/08/2007 20:48

With dinner I usually have water or squash. I don't drink much fluid in the evening generally, but if not wine then it would just be finishing my dinnertime drink.

Desiderata · 23/08/2007 20:49

At least a bottle of red a night, sometimes two.

I've been doing this for years. I never touch anything else because 'anything else' affects me badly.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 23/08/2007 20:49

lol expat. 'Tis very nice though. I haven't had any since Christmas. Usually some kind soul brings me a bottle of duty free; no sign yet this year.

(shall I be really naughty and buy a bottle with dd's DLA backpayment? The form drove me to drink)

gibberish · 23/08/2007 20:49

I am drinking too much at the moment . Don't know why - just habit I think. Or boredom maybe. Actually, I was thinking this morning that I must either cut down or stop completely... it's got to the stage that I want a drink every night. And my skin looks like hell.

I need to get back out to the gym instead or do something to keep me occupied in the evenings instead of sitting at the computer or in front of the telly - too easy to have a glass by the side of me.

spudmasher · 23/08/2007 20:50

I find it so much harder to get up in the mornings if I've had any more than 2 small glasses of wine. That is such a small amount I think 'Oh why bother...' so I generally don't during the week.
Weekends though.... a bottle of wine and a few G and Ts spread over Friday and Saturday.
Am I bingeing sensibly?
Can't drink if I am sad though.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 23/08/2007 20:50

I drink water with dinner. Set a good example to the children and crack open the wine later.
