For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Lionhart - thankfully I have forgotten that bit

BBBee - do you mean your first name?

BBBee · 20/08/2007 19:16

no - I really like my first name so it wasn't that - my surname was really long - it had 16 letters so when dcs were born I shortened it to just the first five letters and finally got round to doing it for myself and DP.

MrsCarrot · 20/08/2007 19:17

it's funny what name's conjour up though, for eg, guadelupe to me is all big thighs, blonde plaits, red cheeks and possibly Helga as a middle name

BBBee · 20/08/2007 19:17

didn't get the email.

dimpledthig hs (at) hotmail (dot) co (dot) uk

(I sometimes tell people dot com by mistake.)

Tranquila · 20/08/2007 19:17

[topaz realises she has never seen the movie. and thinks maybe she should as it all sounds a little surreal]

i like the eypatch look.

fmv - at you for going to festival and having fun

MrsCarrot · 20/08/2007 19:17

yes, you did!

BBBee · 20/08/2007 19:19

oh sorry!

FrayedKnot · 20/08/2007 19:23

Hello

I am hating bootcamp! (I think that's a compliment isn;t it?)

A peach. Cherry toms, cucumber, a carrot, red pepper. Lentil & aubergine moussaka. Strawberries.

I am still very full from teh moussaka, so have ventured up to the rower yet.

If I haven;t been up there by 9.30 you have permission to throw rotten eggs at me.

DollyPopsOut · 20/08/2007 19:24

Hola beautiful 10/10 laydeez

Am much perkier after my illness last week. Have had some fruit today and may even manage some vegetables for supper! And I have walked for about an hour in total today so am feeling back in the saddle.

What have I missed? Will try to read up later but a potted summary would be great

TooTicky · 20/08/2007 19:37

You've gone all surreal on me again.

Have been for blackberry walk by canal with ds1, ds2 and dd2. For once, the ds's were united in one purpose (except when they were fighting over blackberries) - throwing elderberries at boats. For the sake of their bonding, I turned a slightly blind eye. I also let them walk across locks which worries me but is the sort of healthy thing boys should be doing.

TooTicky · 20/08/2007 19:53

I started trying to guess people's names but I'm rubbish at it. It's like trying to name characters in a story. Franny is Franny though. And Greeny is probably Violet. MrsC - Helena?

I have changed my real name btw. When I was about 5 I changed my first name and I have Thoroughly Regretted it ever since. Also, changed my surname when I was about 13 (after some persuasion) - regret that too. Bitterly.

BBBee, am fascinated by your 16 letter name!

Possum, dd1 did have vaccinations. I wish she hadn't. I felt it was so wrong at the time but had no information to help me. The others all unvaccinated as I was better armed by then. I am fortunate that I have a homoeopath who I have (completely justified) utter faith in, so if a problem arose, I would have excellent supportive help. If you want to know any more about homoeopathy, let me know - used properly (as it rarely is) it is stunningly effective. Won't go into it on this thread though as Franny gets scepticism overload

Boco · 20/08/2007 19:54

Oh I remember the scene where she gets her period in the water. Terrified me, i was prepubescent.

Tranquila · 20/08/2007 20:34

now, dont jump on me, but i really do just have to say this. ill only say it once, then i'll shut up because i respect alternative medicine in the main.
i know v well a woman and her family who are all homeopathically treated in all instances.
which is great.
i believe it can be immensely helpful.
however, a word of caution.
she, when about 16, contracted chlamydia and was treated homeopathically for it.
years later, it was discovered that it had not actually been cured and that her reproductive stuff is so mangled she is unlikely ever to conceive.
a time and a place i say.
just be very well advised and informed in all choices you make about your childrens health. (obviously).

TooTicky · 20/08/2007 20:34

Oh, Boco, you just have to be a Katherine.

TooTicky · 20/08/2007 20:36

Depends v. much on the homoeopath. Very few actually practise it as Samuel Hahnemann intended.

Tranquila · 20/08/2007 20:40

i believe you.
im absolutely certain tho, that the mother of this woman believed 100% in her homeopath too.. and she is not a daft woman at all.

i said id shut up didnt i??

TooTicky · 20/08/2007 20:44

There are (shockingly) only a handful of genuinely classical homoeopaths in the country. Using it improperly can seem effective - temporarily. This can of course be dangereous. The myth that homoeopathic remedies are "safe", implying harmless/ineffective, really needs to be dispelled as well.

Tranquila · 20/08/2007 20:53
BBBee · 20/08/2007 20:55

no no no no no please - let's not do the whole homopathy thing - not here. It is on Richard Dawkins programme as we speak so there will be loads of talk on it.

FrannyandZooey · 20/08/2007 20:56

A-HEM

who has exercised?

HMMMMM?

you aren't even TRYING, are you?

MrsCarrot · 20/08/2007 21:01

I am. I lay under the baby gym with Lo and did bicycle things much to his astonishment. He kept turning to me, amazed, and patting my face.

I am watching Dude, where's my car? with ds1 as a treat. It is unbearable so I hope people will be around here for a bit. He is convulsed on the sofa.

Toot - I like Helena, and it's not a million miles from my name, maybe I'll change it to that!

FrannyandZooey · 20/08/2007 21:03

I have had:

  • juice of lemon squeezed in hot water (which may or may not have rendered it useless, no-one saw fit to tell me) (1)
  • grapes (1)
  • raisins (1)
  • melon (1)
  • 2 plums (1) -lettuce, beetroot, cucumber, hummus, tomatoes, red pepper (3)
  • 3 prunes (1)
  • banana (1)
  • red lentils, butternut, carrot, more beetroot (3)

a grand total of: 13

yay me

will boast about gym in a minute unless I get deposed and locked in shower block

MrsCarrot · 20/08/2007 21:04

Um, portions... I had bass with roasted veg: tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, anchovies, capers, sugar snaps, carrots, celery, garlic, courgette and pepper. Maybe 3 portions worth?

Now I am going to have the crying chocolate.

FrannyandZooey · 20/08/2007 21:05

MrsC I do know someone who has changed their whole name by deed poll and it was widely greeted with derision. However I don't see why you shouldn't do it if you want to - Greeny and HC were trying to persuade me to change my real name to Franny the other day and I must say I am tempted
