For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

yes I am building a house..it is very tiny and in my backyard and has taken an absurd amount of time/money and the builders have been crap..but I doubt I have learned my lesson and will do some other mad thing shortly

clearly wasn't eating enough fruit and veg at the time I started!

when will it be finished.. ..it could be finished in a few weeks, but I doubt if it will..It has two rooms downstairs that is a kitchen /living room and a bedroom with ensuite and a downstairs cloakroom and hall, upstairs is a large bedroom with ensuite bathroom and it has a patio garden (more hollow laughter..it will have one) front and back..it has oak floors throughout and will somewhat shockingly be worth about 215k..it's footprint is about 5 x 9 metres

zippitippitoes · 07/08/2007 13:36

no it is not exciting it is grim

I shall have to take some photos and give you all aversion therapy

lionheart · 07/08/2007 13:41

Evening all.

Zippi, the house sounds very exciting. What a wonderful project. Must say I am a bit daunted by even minor things happening chez nous so am deeply impressed that you can build a whole house.

Avi, deep kitchen envy. Let us know when it arrives!

Mrs C, I know what you mean about standing firm and then wanting to capitulate but not being able to. Also know about becoming slightly obsessed about something and then doing everything possible to get it! I have been known to be standing queueing outside our local oxfam in herne hill waiting for them to open so I can purchase something marvellous for a bargain. There must be a woman living nearby who is very similar shape to me (poor cow) and likes the same sort of stuff as there is a lot of Boden and Monsoon in my size for an absolute steal. Means I am dressing in stuff that was in shops abotu 2 years ago but it doesn't really date (being fairly unfash to start with ).

So far today, had raspberries, blueberries, salad leave and horrible sandwich for lunch out. Cafe rouge - do they have anythign decent on the menu? I would have gone to Pizza Exp but my niece won't eat pizza. Most unusual in an 11 year old.

FrannyandZooey · 07/08/2007 21:15

Evening everyone

I am knackered, does anyone mind if I don't read the thread right now? It just looks a little daunting.

Have had broccoli, carrots, corn and a nectarine. Been to gym and done 10 mins on bike and about 50 mins on the weights. Feel like I could go to bed about now. In fact, as soon as I can shift my arse to get stuff ready for work in the morning, I think I will.

Morning

blueberries, nectarines, peach, raisins

woke up too early with a start, realising I had failed to bid on the jeans I wanted on eBay last night. Arse.

Morning! No f or v as yet, but have Plans for later involving borlotti beans and suchlike.
Nice one for the gym- sounds painful! I managed a 25 min walk yesterday.
I had been following the heuristic play thing with great interest- did you come up with anything for 6 year olds?

FrannyandZooey · 08/08/2007 08:00

SK yes I did post again, rambling on a bit about sand and water and sticks, that was the extent of my ruminations so far My conclusions were more or less that, given appropriate opportunities, 6 year olds can organise their own heuristic play and that we don't need to worry about it

SauerKraut · 08/08/2007 08:33

Oh jolly good. Missed my heuristic window then. Although I might catch up a bit by taking them to the park for conkers soon!

filthymindedvixen · 08/08/2007 10:02

help, help

DollyPopsOut · 08/08/2007 16:00

Where is everyone today?

FMV, have no advice for camping as it's not my thing I am afraid. I do go with making a list and sticking things on as you remember. Tick them off as they are done and hey presto! Makes me feel reassured as my memory is shocking now.

Today - raspberries, blueberries, carrot, orange, pepper, cucumber, tomato. And quite a lot of bread . Am very hungry at the moment so have to supplement my f and v. DD2 feeding a lot as it's so hot so may be that's it.

Off out to get my replacement licence form, post letters and get supper. Then get DD1 from her new nusery. She is loving it there now. Am so pleased. Must make a cake for tomorrow as we are going to a friend's. What do you reckon - lemon or orange drizzle? Chocolate? Or just plain fiary cakes?

MrsCarrot · 08/08/2007 17:43

I like the sound of a fiery cake

Apples, grapes, carrots, peppers, broccoli, celery, cucumber as dips for houmous. Mixed bean salad. Stirfry for dinner with a selection of veg.

MrsCarrot · 08/08/2007 17:50

Franny, Little House in the Big Woods is the first in the Laura Ingalls series. I think it' my favourite one.

3andnomore · 08/08/2007 17:54

LOL, I love the title Franny!

Been reasonable on the healthy food front most days (not today though, lol)...but hohum...also had plenty of not so healthy food and alcohol...well....my friend is a bad influence, of course....nothing to do with me, right...lol!
Done most days my exercise, at least...suppose that is somehting
How is everyone doing?
Hope Lullaby is feeling better.

FrannyandZooey · 08/08/2007 18:11

Have had avocado, tomato, cucumber, beetroot, and red pepper.

Hope everyone is ok. Not much of excitement here, tbh. And sad to report that 'Shuffle' rub my feet a bit.

I had that with a pair of ballet pumps and I cut a little slit in the back and put a stitch in to stop in going further. They were really comfy afterwards

pinkspottywellies · 08/08/2007 20:40

Worked at the sweet shop again today chocolate coated orange peel [drool] chewing nuts (you know the toffee ones - no nuts) jelly cherries and strawberries, lemonade fizzballs. I had a bit of a chocolatey day today - merry maids, rainbow drops, chocolate eggs, chewing nuts. Oh and a subway sandwich for lunch which was a real treat! It contained lettuce, cucumber, peppers, olives, and meatballs and cheese. Yummy. Was at MILs this morning so no raisins for breakfast. Not very good! Have just jad a big salad for tea though with lettuce, cucumber, beetroot, spring onion, tomatoes from PIL's garden, artichokes, mushrooms, sweetcorn and pepper.

I also realised today how slowly I walk. I'm sure I used to walk faster but someone coming the opposite way to me had jangly shoes on and I noticed how quick her steps were and was quite shocked at my sluggishness! So I picked up the pace and really felt it in my legs - fantastic!

I found 2 toys in a charity shop today so I'm very chuffed - I never find good things in charity shops. I think it's a particular skill that I just don't have!

MrsCarrot · 08/08/2007 20:51

i love choc coated orange peel, mmmmm

pinkspottywellies · 08/08/2007 21:19

mmmm the orange peel is my fave!
Currently drinking oj and eating malt loaf and banana cake. I'm thinking of adding walnuts next time - has anyone tried it? Has anyone got a malt loaf recipe?

FrannyandZooey · 08/08/2007 21:58

Have eaten rhubarb. It was very tart. Some would say, sour
