Hope you hear some news soon. Did the operation start on time or was there a delay?

I remember when my FIL had an op, he was due up from recovery at 3pm but actually returned at 7pm. Those 4 hours were really hard as we didn't know what was happened. It turned out there was a delay in the op starting which had they just told us, would have been better.

onlyjoking9329 · 06/08/2007 15:52

he went down on time, he was second on the list, the bloke who was third on the list is still waiting to go down.

If he was second then there is a good chance that there was a delay in starting. It must be so unbelievably frustrating. I guess the hospital staff are used to it, they deal with operations everyday - but for you it's not exactly routine

Really hope you hear something very soon

my dh's op was a few hours longer than expected, the wait was agony but all was well in the end.

onlyjoking9329 · 06/08/2007 16:11

Proffyaffle how long was your DH in hospital for, steve thinks he will be home tomorrow

OP posts:
gess · 06/08/2007 16:12

Don't be - hospitals are dreadful (ime) at comunicating with patents/family. Remember its their cock up that meant he had to be shunted in quickly and added to the list.

I think there's a different time system in hospitals- things always seem to take longer xxx

MaureenMLove · 06/08/2007 16:25

Don't be bothered about whether the nurses are fed up with you calling, they are so used to it. I ended up sitting in the chair next to DH's bed for nearly 3 hours waiting and they kept telling me to go, but I refused to leave. I hoe you get news soon and I hope you don't have to wait long for results either. Lots of love. x

onlyjoking9329 · 06/08/2007 16:27

the hospital is ten miles away, they won't let you stay on the ward if the person you are visting is not there, they have a rule of only two vistors per bed, MIL & BIL are going to vist at six, so i need to be there before them really.

SpawnHorcrux · 06/08/2007 16:54

Don't you worry about being a 'pest'!! Can you insist that they tell you why he has been in theatre for longer than you expected? They might be busy, but I'm sure they must have compassion for the stress you are under while waiting for news. Lots of positive vibes ebing sent your way.

MaryBS · 06/08/2007 16:56

OJ - I've been thinking and praying for you today. I guess you'll be calling again soon, but wanted to show my support

Don't worry about your MIL and BIL - you have priority. Let them take it in turns if it comes to it!

onlyjoking9329 · 06/08/2007 17:03

typical can't get throu on the phone, bet they have me blocked.

OP posts:
tigerschick · 06/08/2007 17:08

Keep trying. They have to speak to you sooner or later.
Can you go there anyway? You said you'd have to go before six - but that's only an hour away.

magnolia1 · 06/08/2007 17:13

I would be there anyway, don't worry about what they say or think. Go there now if you want to xxx

Thinking of you x

onlyjoking9329 · 06/08/2007 17:13

just got throu, he is now in recovery room they expect he will be there 2 hours so won't be on the ward until after 7, have texted MIL

OJ - dh was originally told he would be in about 3 days but there were complications and he was in for 10 days then it was another 10 days or so after that before he was truely back to his normal self.

kid · 06/08/2007 17:19

Glad the operation is over and that you can now count down to seeing him again. Hope its not too much of a shock when you see him. He could be very pale from the GA and a bit/very drowsy.

missyhols · 06/08/2007 17:38

Just checked back, glad to hear that he has had the op and that that parts over. Thinking of you x
