oh sweetheart(((((((((((((((((((((oj))))))))))))))))))

have only just seen this thread hows things with you today? that might sound an inane question and perhaps it is oh gawd. i'm not saying it very well.

have you had any help from support groups in your local area?

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 10/08/2007 21:35

Acting like nothing has happened seems to be quite a popular response . He might be more forthcoming when the oncologist has given him lots of technical jargon and details to talk about.

Is he still recovering well, physically, from the brain op?

gess · 10/08/2007 21:35

oh OJ Was he told at the same time as you? I know he's been in denial since the beginning. Have they given you any idea what the treatment will involve?

Marina · 10/08/2007 21:38

OJ I am so sorry. Can the hospital put you in touch with a Macmillan team/nurse - it really sounds like you could both do with the support right now.

onlyjoking9329 · 10/08/2007 21:39

i amangry that they sent him home from hospital only yesterday, then phoned us up this morning to give us the news, i mean i know it's crap news however it is delivered but a phonecall seems so wrong.

steve is not good about talking about stuff he went mad when i suggested he do to an MS support group. camt see him doing mcmillan

OP posts:
fransmom · 10/08/2007 21:40

it does to me too. they should have told you face to face not by phone.

fransmom · 10/08/2007 21:41

you need the support from them too, oj. macmillan are brill angels the lot of them.

Marina · 10/08/2007 21:42

They should not have done that. You should have been told face to face, together.
How would you feel about contacting Macmillan for yourself then OJ. Really, if Steve is in denial (my heart is aching for you both), you are doubly in need of support.

Marina · 10/08/2007 21:43

Snap fransmom. I agree, Macmillan are wonderful and I am sure you will not be the first family where much of the initial work is not about supporting the patient XXX

MhamaiJane · 10/08/2007 21:43

Hi oj, so sorry to hear this, thinking of you all x

onlyWotz · 10/08/2007 21:44

thinking of you, your DH and lovely children and praying for a positive outcome

gess · 10/08/2007 21:44

oh I just saw about the phonecall on ch's. That's terrible.

onlyjoking9329 · 10/08/2007 22:04

i think the whole thing has been handled badly. the fact that in jan they told us it was slow growing so most likey not cancer come back in 3 months for a scan.
those 3 months ended up being 6 months due to backlog now they are saying is is very aggressive and grade four cancer, did it change? or did they guess wrong?

OP posts:
fransmom · 10/08/2007 22:05

could you put a complaint into bma? (british medical association)

gess · 10/08/2007 22:08

I think they completely cocked up OJ. Waiting 6 months doesn't sound right without any confirmation that it was benign. I suppose the question is whether the delay has affected treatment. Can you ask that sort of question on Wednesday with Steve there, or will that be too difficult?

startouchedtrinity · 10/08/2007 22:09

Just seen this, am so for you. xxx

onlyjoking9329 · 10/08/2007 23:16

AIBU to put a call bar on the hospital number

OP posts:
gess · 10/08/2007 23:22

Not at all.

onlyjoking9329 · 10/08/2007 23:29

thats ok then Gess, i will bar them [wank]

OP posts:
gess · 10/08/2007 23:36

er? excuse me

Seriously- do bar them. Think it would be worth complaining about the way Steve's case has been handled if you have the energy to be bothered (you may have more important things to deal with that arguing with health authorities I know).

onlyjoking9329 · 10/08/2007 23:44

oh dear i meant to put WINK, it's not the first time i have done that!

OP posts:
UmSami · 14/08/2007 22:55

OJ, I'm so sorry about Steve's diagnosis. My love, thoughts and prayers are still with you all. x
