Fat belly? No. Ovarian Cancer Belly (part 3) still going!

This is the story of my ovarian cancer discovery and treatment from March 2017 to now. I hope it proves informative / interesting / thoughtful ... and most of all, perhaps make someone think 'actually I need to go the doctor about this and not just assume I've got a pelvic floor / weight problem'.

I am not having treatment - I was on an early phase trial with olaparib and cedirinab, which was going well but the doctors discovered brain mets in May, and after targeted radiotherapy there's not much else they can do.

I'm recently home after 3 weeks in hospital with pneumonia and sepsis so I cannot promise any exciting tales (except falling over). I moan a lot about steroid-induced diabetes.

Happy to hear any terrible (or good) jokes, rants, raves, anecdotes. I was/am a woolly hugger but can't do anything right now.

Here is part 1

Here is part 2

Twitter Princesses, you are a credit to your incredible mum.

Pennina · 23/08/2019 19:36

TPs - your mum would be so proud. Thanks for popping on with your message xx

Bigfatpicnic · 23/08/2019 19:46

Damn cancer.
So sorry to hear this, she was a great positive, kind, warm, funny person on the boards.
I think she has raised a lot of awareness about OC and it’s vague symptoms, also the treatments, which is a great TQ legacy for anyone searching for information and experience of OC.

TP’s you are a credit to TQ.

AppleHEAD · 23/08/2019 19:46

She really was amazing. I think she, Leslie and Purple unicorns helped so many people. She really was so kind and supportuve to so many people. I wish you three well, when she wrote about you all you could feel the incredible love and pride she had for you.

Sometimes, someone in this life that we live, makes a difference.
TQ is this lady and what a legacy she has left.
Twitter Princesses - stand tall, your mother was and is simply epic ❤️

Knitwit99 · 25/08/2019 18:43

Can I ask the TPs (don't answer if you don't want to) if you knew all about your mum's Mumsnet life? Have you read anything she's written? I know some people (like me) like to keep them separate.
It must have been lovely to find out (or know already) that she had such a huge circle of online friends, and had such a positive effect on so many people. My kids would just find out how moany I am.
It's rare for someone to manage to touch so many like TQ did, really special.

So sad to read this news tonight. I have followed Madeline's brave journey for a long time. She rallied so incredibly hard. Rest in Peace Madeline. x

Willowkins · 27/08/2019 00:45

I just saw this too. Can I just add that TQ took the time and energy to support me (as she did so many people) when I needed a bit of encouragement. She was a special person Gin

ChippingInLowCarbing · 27/08/2019 09:18

It’s not fair!
Life’s not fair
Cancer is a bastard.

TQ what an incredible woman. I only met her once IRL and she was as fabulous as she was on here, I was hoping to see her again in Sept. it doesn’t seem 5 minutes ago that she & I were talking about how sad it was Leslie wouldn’t make it to our meet up (with every expectation that she would!)

TP’s - I know you will be ok - you’re your mother’s daughters!! But you shouldn’t have to be going through this. I’m heart broken for you all. Lots of love 💕

@Shelovesmilktray@lots of hugs to you too, losing such a great friend is devastating.

TQ you are an amazing woman who we are all going to miss so much. You’ve helped so many people and likely saved a lot of lives. I believe there’s ‘something’ after this life and frankly it’s at the point where when I get there it’s going to be an incredible reunion! I’ll be seeing you... give my love to Leslie in the meantime!

🌷💕

Such sad news. I met TwitterQueen1 and Leslie at the woolly hugs meet up. I had a lovely chat with TwitterQueen, what a lovely brave and inspiring woman. I’m so sorry TwitterPrincesses for your loss.

Thanks for posting that - it's lovely to put a face to the name/story - I remember it all unfolding at that time. TQ/Madeline was a fabulous person.

Bloodybridget · 30/08/2019 12:24

Thanks so much, Mermaid , for posting the link to Madeleine's story. It made me cry to finally see her face. God, she went through such a lot. I'd love to believe in an afterlife and think of her larking around with friends and riding horses, maybe a spot of line dancing.

gandalf456 · 30/08/2019 18:13

This is very sad news. Rip. I wish you all well

Shelovesmilktray · 03/09/2019 20:07

Hello again everyone

Madeleine’s DD’s have asked me to share the following with you all. It will be a lovely celebration of Madeleine’s life 😊❤️

Hi everyone, Madeleine's memorial service will take place at Midday on Thursday 19th September at St Nicolas Church, Newbury. Absolutely everyone is welcome to attend this celebration of her life. There will be music, photos, hymns and tributes.

Mum's ashes will be displayed on the dais at the front, so if anyone would like to bring flowers you are welcome to lay these on the table when you enter the Church. There will also be a big screen projecting photos

We want this memorial service to be as inclusive as possible so please don't hesitate to get in touch with any special requests (within reason!). Please don't wear black 🙂 In lieu of flowers, you are more than welcome to make a donation in Madeleine's name to Ovarian Cancer Action at donate.ovarian.org.uk

We can't wait to see you all, please spread the word xx 🙂

bobstersmum · 03/09/2019 20:13

So sad to read this! Rip lovely lady x

Proseccoinamug · 04/09/2019 10:23

It is a long long way for me geographically but I will donate in Madeleine’s memory.
